Great food, though very small portions. The three course menu was only about £22, but some of the options have a supplementary fee. The chicken liver parfait with pickled cherries was a gorgeous starter. The lamb cannon and confit breast with olives were lush. The strawberries, cream and meringues were delicious.
The service was frustrating. When we arrived, they couldn't find the reservation by my name. After I provided the confirmation number, they eventually found it. We were asked to wait in the lounge or on the deck, as our table was being prepared. 30 minutes later, we still hadn't been seated or updated, so I had to talk with three different people before someone could sort out a table for us. The server who took our order got it mixed up with the table next to us, food and drinks were really slow in general and we ended up having to modify our cab pick up time (and cab service in Tenterden isn't abundant).
The staff were friendly enough, but they were either having an off day or they need better management/organisation. There were lots of staff members who all seemed to share coverage of our table, so it was disjointed service.
But, if you're not bothered by slow service, etc., it's worth going purely for the food. Plus, it's part of a lovely afternoon at the winery, which is fabulous. read more
