Been here for a longish time now tbh...vibe is always safe, professional and kind employees/owners/workers. Can be busy at times, which I guess is good? They also will help you sell/buy guns with someone else. This is especially helpful to someone related to an 'ex-Hunter' and/or someone that is ready to get a firearm out of the home. I believe they will help you get your hunters safety certification, any and all permits. Fair amount of accessories, not a ton. Probably a 4.5 but optimistic and rounding up! Prices are in line with the market for the most part. read more

Knowledgeable, welcoming, and top-tier service! Gun shops can sometimes feel a bit intimidating to walk into, but Black Dog Armory completely breaks that mold. The staff here are incredibly friendly, welcoming, and down-to-earth from the moment you step through the door. They are also exceptionally knowledgeable. I brought in my Smith & Wesson, and the team was great to work with--patient, professional, and ready to answer questions without any attitude. Whether you're a seasoned owner or a first-timer, they treat everyone with the same level of respect. It's a fantastic local shop with great customer service. Easily a 5-star experience, and I'll definitely be back. read more

My new favorite gun store! Came here to transfer a private sale and had a great time talking to Handsome Mike and the other employees. Staff is very helpful and I ended up buying another gun haha. Ill definitely be driving here for all my firearm needs. I will say if you are afraid of dogs its called Black Dog Armory for a reason. When you open that door don't be shocked by the large black dog that is extremely friendly and loves to play. read more

Dan the man. He fixed my iron sights quick and perfectly. Shoutout the whole store. Employees are cool and chill. As always respect is earned not given. Also their name Black Dog Armory is literally. read more

Update - when I picked up a firearm today, I informed them of the "new" law. Under CA Assembly Bill 1982 - veterans are exempt from the safe handling demonstration and our VA ID card suffices as proper identification. Once I reviewed that the guys agreed that it seemed to be correct and they gave me a refund on the needless firearms, safe handling demonstration, and exam that I had taken needlessly. Once more - the guys who work here are SOLID. Great group of guys working at a lack Dog! They simply had not been updated about the change to the law. And no big surprise, the California state auditors had given them a hard time; which is par for the course in CA. These guys did not make me do a safe handling demo because they wanted to be jerks. They were simply trying to adhere to the innumerable and constantly changing laws of the land. Never once did I feel like they were giving me FUDD nonsense just for the sake of it. They were trying to merely adhere to the endless, nonsensical "laws" here in CA. I will for sure continue to bring my business to black dog. It is a great local shop with good selection and we need to make sure that they can keep the doors open and the lights on.!! read more

Great service! Very helpful knowledgeable, patient and attentive staff. It's worth the extra drive to get here.

We were driving around and I thought "hey, maybe we should re-kindle with old hobbies. Is there any gun shops around?". I wanted to clean some of my boyfriend's guns but he didn't have any supplies so we went here. The place isn't hard to find, we just got confused and tried entering in front when the entrance was at the back. We opened the door and I was welcomed with the familiar scent of carbon and brass. Brings back memories. They have a huge selection of ammo, accessories, guns, etc. I asked one of the staff to help me pick some cleaning supplies and he was very helpful. We left that place satisfied. Glad to know there's a friendly armory close by to talk about similar interests. Highly recommend! read more

These guys are friendly and extremely knowledgeable about the products they carry and the laws surrounding them. There really is a black dog in there store once in a while. He's humungous, but is such a good boy. When working with the employees, they give you very careful and professional attention. They really had me covered when I purchased my Springfield. With that being said, this care and attention can bring the customer line to a grinding halt for actual hours. I really like the guys working here, but they do appear to be understaffed and overworked the times I've visited. And the amount of paperwork they have to deal with can make a normal person lose their mind. Overall, this is a place I do want to come back to and make more purchases, but I also do find myself considering strategic times to do so. read more

Black Dog is a place where you really expect all there is to expect from a properly operating gun shop but the customer service and the characters you interact with elevates it. Aaron and Alex both helped me with purchasing my first couple of guns and have answered any questions I have with great detail and enthusiasm. Even for doing PPT transfers, my complaint is that I wish they're more flexible on when and what times to do it. But despite that downside, its still a shop I highly recommend anyone in Fremont to check out. read more

Blown away by Handsome Mike customer service. First time customer, here and so far I'm highly satisfied. Thank you.

I recently sent my 9mm slide out to get some work done, and because of AB1263 I had to have my own slide shipped back to an FFL. After calling several FFLs in the area, I chose Black Dog Armory because they were the only one that wasn't charging a fee just to receive my slide . Alex helped me out when I came in, and he was friendly and knowledgeable. From the moment he asked, "How can I help you?" to walking out the door with my slide, the whole process took about 10 minutes. Quick and easy! Since they did not charge me I decided to purchase a couple of 45 Magazines but when I got home there were fitment issues. I had such a great experience at Black Dog that the very next day I brought my 1911 in to see if they could help with magazine fitment issues I was having. That's when I met Mike, who from the start made me feel like I'd known him for years. He listened to what was going on and introduced me to Daniel. Daniel didn't say much, but he took a look at the issueand after several minutes, brought the magazines to the back, worked his magic, and before I knew it my 1911 was operating perfectly with the magazines. Needless to say, I'm really impressed with the team there. Going forward, Black Dog Armory is definitely going to be my go to spot for anything I need. Thank You! read more

Service team here is great. Great members. They are always fun and helpful. Plus they have cool dogs.

This place is ok I mean my last resort place to get a firearm now. Alex can be rude and cool at times . Somtimes it smells like pee in the carpet like they don't clean up the place well I don't know about yall I don't want to stand in line for a hour smelling that. But the other staff is cool af there only reason I'll go but I would not purchase anything through Alex nothing personal just a rude individual needs to work on people skills talk to us not like criminals when buying a firearm. read more

Visited Black Dog Armory yesterday. Had some concerns about my gun and its Ammo. Expert knowledge and service minded people work there. I felt very safe and protected in the store. Dan Goularte helped me so much! So many things I did not know. What a pleasure. Great experience. Highly recommend Black Dog Armory for all your firearm needs. MONGO the black dog was adorable too. Dan, Appreciate all the time you took with me. Thank you again. read more

Guy with glasses and long hair is a complete asshole, he should learn how to talk to people. Good shop in terms of selection, just that guy makes it an unpleasant experience. Save your time and money take your business elsewhere, will have a much better experience. read more

I visited Black Dog on a Saturday afternoon. Easily passed up five other armories on the way. I built my first AR-15 platform rifle and I wanted to get the blessings of a reputable gunsmith before I sent anything down range. I chose this place, because of word of mouth and in part online reviews. I spoke to Daniel, he shook my hand and I asked him if he would be willing to do a once-over on my build. He did so willingly, and with patience. He taught me a few things this afternoon. I feel good about my build and I'm glad I visited Black Dog Armory. read more

Great location. Staff is great to interact with. They can get rather busy so don't expect a quick trip in and out. Most people that come in the location actually purchase something so they have to do the DROS paperwork and it takes time. Really wish California made a more automatic system for this so gun store owners could get back to helping customers and conversing instead of just paper pushing. Maybe implement something into the real id so they can just swipe but knowing California they want to make it as hard as possible. Overall they have a small selection of consignment. Standard selection of handguns that are the most popular anyone would want for HK, Sig, S&W, and Glock. They carry some ARs and benellis. Not very heavy with precision stuff though. Carry some ar15 tools, and scopes. They usually will have Anderson and aero ar15 bare lowers. Overall solid place to shop. read more

I was in Fremont and wanted to check them Out. I asked about Berrettas & 1911s in Stock and guy Brushed me off like I couldn't afford it. Most of the Guys there have good Customer Service but the guy with the glasses & long hair is a douchebag.. I got my AK47, PWS AR 15 appraised and bought a couple Stripped Lowers ... Their Gun Smith was Very polite and Knowledgeable but I rather buy my Guns & Build them in my original FFL in Orangevale. The drive is worth it when buying firearms from trusted Sources at good prices, where I don't get treated like shit. If you're not a white Caucasian Male, avoid this Store. read more

Amazing staff , friendly and knowledgeable. Plus dogs that great you upon coming in .

Several years later. This place still deserves 5 stars. Thank you to the gentlemen who guided me through from getting my safety certificate to purchasing my very first firearm. Amazing staff and will not "salesman" you with lies and misinformation (unlike some other places I've been to). Just honesty (even if the honesty is disappointing at times). I've been telling a family member to check you guys out but he's so busy. He'll definitely love this place. Thank you. read more

Just purchased my first Handgun (m18 320) overall experience 10/10 great place and friendly/fun environment!! Alex did a great job helping me pick out and showed his firearm knowledge and made paperwork go by quickly. Aaron also did a spectacular job with the pick up process best one so far from just his attitude too knowledge and just any questions I had, made sure I left there knowing how too operate my handgun and also gave me a rundown on the ammunition he thought was best. Overall 10/10 will definitely be going back! read more

Good crew there. Have had nothing but positive experiences with finding parts to advice from the gunsmith!

Not the best service for private party transfer as they don't do they past 12 or on Saturday's at all. Also service wasn't the greatest.

Rudest place that I have been to. Given that there are many people can't afford to purchase a firearm, especially with Newscom's 11% tax on top of regular tax, I would not be rude to people coming in to shop at this establishment. I went in to see if a certain tool was available. The person doing inventory responded in a condescending manner -" Are you cop?" he said. "No?, then I can't sell you what you're looking for!" So I asked, what else do you have in a .380. He responded annoyed that I asked, "I'm trying to do inventory" I'm thinking W T F is up with this dude. He reluctantly showed me one .380 and I wasn't impressed with it. I said thank you and left. If it was my store and business wasn't booming, even if it was I would have said, well let me show you what other ones we have available. We have xy and z, do any of them work for you? But no, he evidently felt he had to get back to inventory. I left and went to the next store with similar products. First of all, I had to convince myself that it would be okay to spend money on a want, not a need and pay the extra 11% Newscum tax at this establishment. Second, as if people are flocking in to purchase at the current tax rate, one would be grateful for someone walking in trying to spend their hard earned money at this establishment. I was wrong. For the reasons stated above, I will take my business somewhere else. A place where merchants appreciate patrons such as myself trying to do business with them. read more

Hubby has been wanting to buy some ammo for his shotgun for quite some time and was not able to find a place nearby where he lived. We were in the area waiting to see our friends to drop off some gifts for their little one, but they never got back to us. So Hubby googled places nearby and called to make sure they have what he wanted and we made our way over there. There was no line when we arrived, as it was late afternoon. Hubby looked around and they had what he wanted. He ended up coming back a few days later to purchase, because he ended up forgetting some documents that he needed in order to purchase ammo. Other than that, we had a good experience going there and it's close by so it's good for us if there are things that we need to purchase. read more

Before I state my review let me just say that this is the perfect gun shop to go to! On Behalf of the very recent 1 star review, mind you guys that when it comes to stepping into a New Hobby. PLEASE DO YOUR GUY's RESEARCH WHEN IT COMES TO FIREARM SAFETY AND WHAT YOU CAN and CANNOT BUY AS A CITIZEN VS WHAT LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS CAN BUY. If you do not have a clue about anything at all kindly please ask ANY of the workers there because EVERYBODY IN THERE is SUPER Knowledgeable! I've been buying from these guys ever since December of 2023. Up until now I have completed my Whole Collection and I wouldn't have gotten everything if it weren't for these guys that welcomed me and made me feel like Black Dog Armory is my second Home! Shout out to Mongo as well for keeping us entertained while waiting to get to the counter. My tip for you new gun owners and current gun owners is please, don't be stupid and do research. All of the guys in this shop are wonderful. The owner personally took the time to explain different options of handguns and then suggested that of the ones I liked, I should go try them out first. That was great advice. I came back and purchased a Hellcat and a Keltec 410. The Black Dog kept me busy. He loves playing with the customers. Stop by. You won't be disappointed. I'll be back for a 3rd gun. Their prices are reasonable. And they have a great variety to choose from. read more

First off the place smells like cat piss. All I was looking for was a wrench for my AR. Found exactly what I was looking for but it was in the glass case opposite the gun case. One salesman was helping three people at the counter and the other sales people were sitting down having a conversation. I waited for about 10 minutes until I heard a female mention to the male employees that were sitting down that there's a couple customers in here. The older gentleman responded with a head nod that he understood they were customers but he didn't care and decided to ignore us. At that point I decided to just walk out and go somewhere like Guns Fishing & Other Stuff. read more

First visit to Black Dog was a great experience. Alex and Dan, I believe that's their names, are very friendly and helpful. I came in with the intent to make a sale, and it was a very smooth process. I did have to wait for like 30 minutes, but understandable as there's only 2 of them. They both made me feel welcomed and very easy to talk to. If I were to ever make a gun purchase in the future, this store would definitely be one of those ones that I would visit! read more

Shout out Alex and the guys here. Got my FSC here a few months ago; they were very helpful so I had to come back and support them to purchase a HCP. They have better prices than a lot of LGS around. From Glock, springfield, sig, S&W, they'll have most of what you need. They can get busy but be patient!
