Today Caskey Orchards of San Marcos set up a booth at the Sunset Valley Farmer's Market in the SW corner next to Boxer Rescue (where I help out) and gave us some of their "ready to eat NOW" discounted peaches and let me just say these peaches are so juicy you need a bib to eat them delicious mess! I grew up in East Texas on a farm that always had juicy peaches in the backyard. In addition to offering…read morevarious in-person classes for new beekeepers or those just interested in bees, they host an almost weekly (Saturday mornings) FaceBook live broadcast where Mark goes over relevant topics. The equipment portion of the store is very well stocked and has pretty much anything a beekeeper could need (or want) at reasonable prices. The wax/honey/product portion of the store always has unique one-of-a kind items as well as the 'typical' items that folks regularly buy (i.e. honey, beeswax, candles, etc.). Though the store is usually always busy, Mark, Thien and other staff are never too busy to answer questions from customers. They also respond (amazingly quickly - far better than I think I would be) to emails with questions from beekeepers. They have queens (unmarked early on and marked later) available for re-queening each year, which is really great because re-queening is a regular part of beekeeping and being able to obtain them locally is great. Aside from being helpful at the store and in answering questions, everyone at Gretchen's Bee Ranch are just good people - people you'd want to be friends with even if you weren't customers. If you've never stopped buy, check this place out. If you are a beekeeper anywhere near Seguin, this is the place to come for all of your apiary needs. If you just want to learn more about bees, there is probably a class (either a limited in-person one, an on-line one or a no-limit in-person one) for you!

WELLLLL!!! let me tell you "YOU AIN'T TASTED NOTHIN LIKE THE TOMATOES FROM UNCERTAIN FARMS". Apparently, they're grown on a hydroponic farm in West Texas, they are HUGE, juicy, and flavorful. I eat them all by themselves. I haven't tried his home canning YET but certainly plan to. When I've gone by there is always SOMEONE raving about his canned goods (especially his candied jalepanos - but I'm a whimp when it come to hot stuff). You'll have to get on his website to find out where he's at because he travels from place to place. I found him at the Helotes Market Days (1st Sat of every month) and at The Legacy on Sundays. It's certainly worth tracking him down. When you see him ask about getting an entry form to win an iPad. He's part of the co-op Revive America Today and they are giving some lucky customer an iPad to be given away at the Helotes Market Days in February 5th.

Added a beef (80-85%) sausage link and that was very good. Considering I don't do sausage much as most are meh, I'm glad I added one! Brisket plate had mix of lean and juicy. Good flavors. I personally love to smoke meat in my spare time, so to see someone have a cut of meat I've smoked before I always try to compare. So I proceeded to get the lamb ribs. The flavor profile was there but the meat itself probably would've won me over if they hadn't been sitting there being nuked under that light for the past hours. If these bones were fresh off the smoker they'd be a hit for sure! But the membrane was still attached to the rib and the ends of the meat were sitting for so long all the natural oils within the meat were drained and dried out the meat pretty much was a jerky if you didn't have the fatty side. Not going to say I didn't like it but when I pulled membrane off from a chew that was a no no for me. I'd give them another try as long as the membrane was removed and it was fresh. Happy yelping

The last thing we tried was the chorizo which had decent flavor but was greasier than I'm used to. The storefront seemed clean otherwise, with a variety of canned goods to shop from.
