Three large pieces of perfectly beer battered fish with house made fries, a hefty portion to leave you full and happy. The lighting there isn't the best, so the pictures don't do it justice. They even have the traditional malt vinegar if you ask for it. It comes with homemade tartar sauce and some lemon wedges (I always ask for extra) Other great things we've tried include the sausage sandwich, the breakfast, the cottage pie, bangers and mash, curry and chips, Reuben egg rolls, and the steak! Yes, the steak! It was surprisingly good, but everything is good here. They even have HH specials on Fridays until 6. Fish and chips are buy 1 get one 1/2 off on Tuesdays. They also have live music - check their schedule. Parking is a bit awkward but we've never been unable to find any. Service is always great.

The curry french fries were okay ... not a huge fan of their curry sauce. The mule was very good as was the raspberry beer. The plates however were a different story. Every plate was cold .. not just not warm .. they were cold like sitting out on a counter for an hour cold. The food was bland .. they were out of items (potato pancakes) ... did not tell us .. and subbed without asking. The experience started well but ended poorly.

They have a great selection of whisky's and usually make a really good black and tan. Today I sat at the bar, I was greeted right away and got a beer in 20 secs. I've had the fish and chips here which were good. Bangers and mash I've had and enjoyed, Shepard pie is pretty good. Today I went with the BBQ burger. Food came out in about 10 mins from placing my order. Not bad, not great. My rating on the bbq burger. They did not ask me how I wanted it prepared, it was pretty much well done. The bun was a little hard, almost stale. There was not much bbq sauce on the bbq burger. With all the toppings, I'd give the burger 5 of 10. The hard bread took away from it for sure. I always like to try just the patty without anything on it to see how restaurants prepare their patties. It was about what I expected for a well done burger. Not much flavor, it tasted like well cooked ground round. I'd give it a 3.5. The fries were so so, I like fries more on the crispy side. These were more like thick steak fries, soft and limp. They were seasoned with salt and pepper. Not bad, not great. The beer I had... had an odd smell. It tasted ok, but I think the glass itself may have not been the cleanest. Hoping I don't get sick from a dirty glass. The bartender was nice enough to let me try their frozen Irish coffee. It was surprisingly delicious, like a boozy ice cream. It just seemed like a full glass would be too much. So I got a black and tan, which was good. If I was eating just this visit, I'd probably be between a 2-3, food was meh, and the dirty glass didn't help. If I include all my other visits I'm at 3-4, since this most recent experience I had to say I'm closer to a 3 than a 4.

She wanted to get a way from the crowd so we stopped in here hoping to get a bite to eat. Because it was after a certain hour, the menu was limited. A live band was playing all the 90s rock classics -- Tom Petty, Stone Temple Pilots -- giving the whole place an easy, nostalgic energy. Our server, Yella, was a delight. Sweet, attentive, and rocking the plaid skirt uniform like a pro. We ordered their famous fish & chips but opted for mashed potatoes instead of fries. The potatoes were on the chunky side and a bit light on seasoning, but the fish more than made up for it. Crispy golden coating, flaky interior, and a portion size big enough for both of us to share. Truly excellent -- we'd definitely order it again. Mad Dogs hits that sweet spot of good food, great music, and a fun Riverwalk location. We'd happily return.
