I am giving it 4 stars because they ran out of fish and chips by 4 in the afternoon. The wings and the pretzel are enough food for 2, even though they are listed as appetizers. Service was quick and good, the ambiance was that of a decent bar that serves good beer and food. Would recommend, but only if they keep a good stock of fish and chips. read more

Hit this bar twice in one night, before and after a recent concert. All I needed was some Smithwicks and they had it (of course). Mixed in a Blacksmith as well. Great bar, great vibe, good service, convenient on the river walk. read more

We walked in as we were bar hopping down the Riverwalk. We heard signing and cheering from the walk and had to see what all the fun was. There was a guy at the piano signing and having a great time. The entire bar was having a time with him. The waitress was very attentive to us with our drinks and apps. The restaurant was loud, but that's to be expected. read more

This place is so much more than just a bar on the Riverwalk. I have been there several times and love it. They always have someone playing to piano and taking requests, which we obliged. Totally enjoyed the atmosphere there and the folks who work there are great and very helpful in choices of ales. It is that bar that you will remember if you go there and yes at some point you will be singing along with everybody else in the bar. Definitely recommend! read more

I remember Durty Nelly's from years ago, and honestly, the atmosphere this St. Patrick's Day wasn't as fun as I remembered it. Gone are the famous peanuts. I guess too many people with peanut allergies, maybe? Yes, it's still great fun to gather 'round to listen to the live piano music and sing along to those popular classic tunes. I was just shocked to learn they ran out of green beer after the weekend, but they did have plenty of Guinness! The staff was pleasant but so busy. This night, it was hard to get a table as expected and hard to get an order in for food or drinks. I was so hungry by the time we got our fish n chips. I forgot to take a photo. Small plate of three tender-size breaded fish and shoestring "chips". It was good. So, a lot of it is expected for this type of establishment on a busy night like this one, even though they were seriously limiting the number of people in. Tip for the ladies: The tiny bathroom only has 2 stalls and one sink. Expect a wait. We have so many good memories here. Would I go back? Undecided. Maybe it's time for a new spot. read more

Okay, we did not really order three dogs. They sent us the wrong one the first time. BTW...Kathy liked the bangers & mash dog (they call it "the good," as in "the good, the bad, and the ugly"). I did not. It's the one we did not order, as a point of order, however, they made everything right. I am certain it had the same "dog" as the other two, and, therefore, not a banger. Nonetheless, they handled it well. Just because I rank dogs the most evolved of food specialties, and I appreciate the effort to get creative, let me give you a brief rating on each: First: none of the dogs will get five stars because they butterfly them. The Good: Essentially a banger & mash dog. It comes with onion gravy and Boursin mash. I am fairly certain what we got was a Nathan's dog. The pretzel roll was not steamed enough so the "hinge" blew out. All in all, the mashed on a dog do not work, the onion gravy was nice. out of 5 The Bad: A chili cheese dog with fried jalapeños and onions. They could've added 3 times the chili and it would've met my minimum expectations. The cheese was some type of cheese sauce & not bad. The fried jalapeños were a groovy touch, but there should be more (for $15, definitely). out of 5 The Ugly: This is a Reuben on a dog. This bun also had a hinge blowout. If you are unfamiliar, the hinge is that part of the bunt that holds the shebang together. Excellent corned beef! Sauerkraut would normally cause this to immediately fail, but since, unfortunately, people actually eat that junk (not me), we got it on the side. I was told it was good by my designated sauerkraut taster. The thousand island dressing? So first, the pickle chunks are too big. On the plus side, it was very creamy. Was there cheese on this? No idea. I will point out that Reubens are supposed to come with Russian dressing, not thousand island, but if this is a political statement, good-on-you. out of 5 read more

Durty Nelly's Irish Pub - Piano bar - Irish Pub Near Me - San Antonio, Texas

It's everything you want from a pub. Decent pours on the drinks, tasty stick to your ribs food (I suggest the corned beef & cabbage fries-so much better than it sounds), Irish drinking songs with audience involvement, a sense of community, and friendly staff who are quick with their service. It's cozy and an actual pub vibe, not just some generic bar with pub branding. Love it. Just don't get down to the Riverwalk as much as I'd like. read more

By far the worst fish and chips I have ever had from an Irish pub. Sit down and I will tell you about my experience. Durty Nelly's was fairly close to my hotel on the Riverwalk and I figured you can't go wrong with some simple fried food. When you show up here, like most other places, you have to enter via the Riverwalk, but this place was a little extra, carding you before you even step off the walk. Like, OK, if this were a club, at night, and you were charging a cover I could see you doing this, but if I wanted to just get a meal, I'm not understanding this. Yeah, there was a live performance going on, but that is still not a reason for carding in my mind. The biggest annoyance here was the live performance on that day. He pandered to the crowd and played songs requested but then threw in some songs that were originals. Those being songs focused around being drunk and genitalia. Listen dude, I get it, that stuff is relatable, but only when plastered and if I was about twenty years younger. Not something you want to hear while trying to eat a meal. Before I started the whole venture, I have to say that after I was carded I was ignored for a bit of time. I was just kind of showed a hand gesture meaning for me to pick a table. Then it took forever for a person to even acknowledge I was there. I was finally given a menu and ordered a beer. After looking over the limited menu I went with the Fish & Chips, one of my favorite things to get at a place, not just an Irish Pub. But it was not that great here. To say it was horrible might be an understatement. Usually I dig right into this but I could not do it. As you can see you get a decent amount of food, which would be great it it were edible. The first piece I attempted to eat was fried so hard that it was nearly rubber. I couldn't even cut it with a knife. It nearly turned my stomach. The next piece, I took one bite out of and was doused in grease. There was a pocket in the coating that trapped some of the grease it was fried in. To say the least, I stopped with the meal at that point. After being ignored some more I finally had my server show back up. She asked me if everything was alright and I told her no, I was done with the meal, it was disgusting. She did nothing about it and just cleared the plate. After about ten minutes, she did reappear with my check, almost as a way to say 'thanks, get out.' I should have known that this wasn't going to be a good experience, but to be shrugged off after such a horrible meal, I definitely won't be back and can see why it is named like this. read more

My family and I were walking along the River Walk when I became overcome with the heat. I am 77 years old. I sat down at one of the out door tables while my son in law went for the car. They brought me a lemonade and refused payment. If I ever get back to San Antonio ( was in town for my grandson's graduation from basic training) they will be my first stop. read more

This was another stop while taking in the sights along the Riverwalk on a midweek evening. This place too was fairly full. There is both indoor and outdoor seating available. I put down a pint of Smithwick Red Ale ($9) while sitting outside along the Riverwalk. Yeah, it's pricey but at least I wasn't charged a credit card fee! Again, there's no parking that I'm aware off. You have to find street parking or use a public lot. There are a few TV monitors if you sit inside. read more

We did not have food. Stopped in for a drink and listened to their piano player. It was a very fun enviroment.

Found this place on a rainy day and had the best time!! They play piano but they also had us laughing nonstop! We ended up staying for about 4hrs because we were having so much fun singing along and laughing. We only had the fries but they were good. Also had a ton of their Irish tea cocktails. This place was the highlight of our trip to San Antonio! Can't wait to go back! read more

Fun piano bar. Musician wasn't that great of a singer but played very well and was highly entertaining with the crowd. Guinness was in 12oz glass, so little off for an Irish pub in my opinion. Place smells like an Irish pub and I say that in a good way. read more

I bar hopped all over San Antonio & I can say that Durty Nelly's was my favorite spot. If you are coming here, keep in mind this is not meant to be a classy, fine dining place. This has a tavern feel, with endless drinks & you'll be sure to see a pianist & people dancing if you go late at night. This is such a fun lively spot. It can get crowded but there's some room to stand if it does. read more

Great service and great views!! Beers were cold and it was within walking distance to our hotel.

Located literally on San Antonio's famed riverwalk, Durty Nelly's Irish Pub is a fun joint to pop in for a for a drink or stay for a longer for a more event filled evening. I came in from the river side of the restaurant and I just loved the whole vibe it offered. In the dead middle is placed a piano with the musician of the evening, belting out new and old tunes with some Irish fun mixed in. The ambiance is almost of a underground tavern; flagstone walls, heavy exposed wooden beam ceilings, walls with all sorts of patron momentous and so forth. After wading through the throngs of customers belting out offkey Irish limericks, the bar is in the very back. It's almost a deliberate placement as if to force anyone who's had a bad day via osmosis from the rebel rousing to lighten their spirits. The bar is well stocked and most of their focus is on Irish based drinking. An Irish Mule, Guinness Stout and Irish Coffee are but a few examples of adult beverages that will make your friends green with envy! The staff are extremely friendly and willing to engage in useless banter while mixing up a beverages. While I'll admit I had already eaten for the night the food looked great and had a lot of items I would love to sample. However, this was the last stop before I had to drive back home in Austin. To conclude, I dig this type of bar as it has real character, not some bar in a recently built strip mall that you see on every street corner. The staff are friendly, the music brings up the spirits and people are like friendly neighbors. I highly recommend dropping by as you just might see me there singing with my beer goggles on! read more

We came in on a Saturday afternoon when the music drew us in from the riverwalk. I would highly recommend this place as a cool hangout spot. However, such a cute place with Irish vibes! read more

Don't usually drink on the riverwalk since its packed, overpriced, and doesn't feel San Antonian, but this bar is an exception. You walk into a pub that feels like a little house on the highlands. It is small and gets packed, but if you can score a table outside, it is fun to people watch and enjoy a properly poured Guinness. read more

The piano player is super rude. He'll take your money and not play your requests. If he doesn't like your request, he'll publicly mock you for it. There's better Irish pubs and better piano bars. read more

This was the most crowded bar I went to along the riverwalk when I was visiting San Antonio. You are coming here because of the very fun Irish atmosphere, primarily thanks to the piano man playing classics, but he will sing his own lyrics, which can be NSFW. Other than that, drinks are okay. Just stick with a cheap beer and be on your merry way. read more

My husband and I stopped in for a quick nightcap before going back to our hotel. There was a pianist playing and it was a similar experience to a dueling piano bar. The inside of the bar sounded/looked like it was packed so we sat outside on the patio. We ordered a drink and ended up ordering two desserts as well haha we got an order of the Irish cheesecake and the Irish donuts. It sounds funny to be ordering desserts at a bar but it was an impulsive decision. Both were really good but the donuts... omg those were SO good. It was really sweet and definitely more than enough to share for at least 4 people. The service was good too and we were well taken care of during our time at the bar. I would come back if we stayed on the riverwalk again! read more

Great location right on the Riverwalk--perfect for sitting back, relaxing, and enjoying a few drinks and a meal. We thoroughly enjoyed the freshly made Irish cream donuts; they were delicious. The Reuben was medium-ish-sized, came with a medium portion of fries, and was tasty. The Angry Bird sandwich was good as well, but the real star of the lunch was the donuts. A bit expensive; however, given the location and the cost of everything in the area, the prices were comparable. read more
