My friend and I got a flat tire on the way to the Clear Creek trailhead at Mt. Shasta after Google Maps directed us to go up a detour route (Esperanza Road) with rough chip seal gravel. :( We called Black Butte Towing, and our driver, Dave, went above and beyond to help us fix the tire and salvage our backpacking plans. First, after we explained that we had gotten a ride to the McCloud Ranger station, Dave picked us up there without question. On the long and tedious journey back up to our car, his conversation and friendly demeanor helped put us at ease. A true professional, he was attentive and efficient with the tow itself. On the drive back, he made sure our car and our stomachs were looked after; he pulled into the parking lot of his favorite milkshake place to confirm that the vehicle hadn't slid sideways on the journey AND he bought us a sweet treat there, knowing the stressful day we had had. He insisted on paying. What a guy! As it had gotten late in the day, the tire shop to which we wanted to take the car wouldn't admit us (and didn't have a spare in a compatible tire anyways). Dave offered to drop us off at a hotel and remained flexible as we continued to explore our options. The grand finale? Just as our hopes were dimming to get the tire fixed that same day in order to attempt our summit, Dave offered to tow us to the nearest AutoZone, where we could pick up a cheap tire plug kit and try to plug the tire ourselves. That worked!! He patiently taught us how to install a tire plug, spending at least two extra hours after the original tow, all with a cheerful and positive attitude. Because of Dave, we were able to make it back to the Clear Creek trailhead late that same night, car camp, and attempt our summit early the next morning as planned. All in all, we were blown away by the customer service at Black Butte towing, and we could not thank Dave enough for the expert help and human kindness he showed us. 6 star review (if it were possible). read more

Classic intro, but...if I could give more stars, I would. On July 3rd (afternoon/evening before the long 4th of July weekend), we were broken down on I5 in the Shasta Mountains. We had double coverage (AAA Platinum and Good Sam) for our 35' Class A motorhome. AAA had no service providers available. GS first made us research where was wanted to take our RV, and when we finally found a destination, they said it would be $2,500 ($1,000 out of pocket up front) and 4-5 hour wait. The Freightliner service center recommended Black Butte Towing. Not only were they less than the total GS total quote, but he stated he could be there within 45 minutes (which he was). Zach was extremely professional, friendly and competent. We honestly had no idea what was entailed in towing a Class A motorhome (including disconnecting the drive train). Cannot thank and praise Zach enough for him getting us and our 2 dogs off the mountain and to Freightliner while they were still open that night. Called for a AAA platinum tow back on July 6, 2023 and they could not find any AAA towing company that wanted the 167 mile tow. AAA then called Black Butte Towing and they agreed to do the tow. Jeff was prompt, friendly and very competent and professional, the tow involved a pick up truck and an old trailer. The truck tow went off without a problem but we had to drop the trailer when it almost lost a wheel by Redding. We got to the destination, dropped the truck at my sisters house and Jeff told me he would go back pick up the trailer and take it back to their yard in Weed, and we could come fix it at our convenience. I know AAA would not have given anywhere near the service that Black Butte Towing did and I'm just glad that AAA couldn't find any of their people willing to do the tow and called Black Butte! I foolishly got stuck in a snow bank & unfortunately learned what "high centered" means (believe me, you are better off not finding this out first hand). AAA was amazingly *un*helpful, between the automated phone menu that inexplicably does not feature "Emergency Roadside Service" as an option (Claims will get you there, for future reference) and the unavailability of their contract tower. Thankfully the CHP referred us to Black Butte and Jeff, both of whom were fantastic. Friendly, efficient and they communicated with us throughout which was very reassuring since we were stuck in a remote area & facing a night spent in the truck if no one towed us. I was hauling a load of cows to Redding today and blew a tire on the stock trailer. I called AAA, been a member for years, and after an hour I called them back to ask an ETA and they said they would not change a trailer tire with stock in the trailer! What a joke. So I googled tows in the Weed area and found Black Butte Towing. I spoke to someone who said they would be right out and that I was "just around the corner!" I didn't get the young man's name, but he got there went to work and had my tire changed in 5-10 minutes. We discovered my spare was not in good shape so he gave me directions to the closest tire store and when he figured out I wasn't following his verbal instructions he led me at a slow rate of speed on the shoulder to the road I needed to be on to get to the tire store. Jeremiah is the best. I made a dumb and hasty decision which resulted in my van (Rose) being stuck in the snow and at the bottom of a small incline. Rose was sitting diagonal to the road up. Jeremiah rigged a cable and pulley system to pull her straight with some wheel steering and right up that snowy incline. He was very sweet and shared hot spring spots and camping van setups. It's a very stressful situation to get into an accident. My parents, two of my dogs and I were fortunate not to be injured when we had an accident on I5 close to Dunsmuir. Our trailer flipped on its side and took down our tow vehicle. Zack and Bruce came out to move the vehicle and trailer and towed it to their yard. I didn't have contact with Bruce because we rode in Zack's truck. I can't say enough great things about Zack. His kindness, patience, and willingness to help assist us with everything beyond his job duties are way above reproach. On the way to the tow yard, Zack stopped at the Hi-Lo Motel to help us get checked in. I imagine most people would stay in the truck, but he got out, helped me lift my 14 year old Golden out of the truck, helped my parents out, went into the Motel office with us, let us take our time getting checked in so we could drop my mom and my dogs off while my dad and I went to the tow yard with him to pull some essentials out of the vehicle and trailer. AND THEN, he took us back to the Motel, got out again and helped us unload the stuff we collected. It sounds simple, but he literally was like a member of the family in his demeanor and actions, both amazingly refreshing and surprising...and definitely appreciated. The next day my friends drove up to take us to get a U-Haul and collect all our belongings from the trailer. We were there for hours in full sun...Eric came out and brought us ice cold bottled water..so nice and totally unexpected! Rick was kind enough to bring out two ladders that I had requested as well and was so gracious every time I went to the office to ask a question. Later, I realized while we were headed back home that we left the trailer awning sprawled out, so I called and Brian answered. When I apologized for leaving the awning out he immediately alleviated any worries I had and told me not to worry about it, so simple to roll it up, not a problem. My company had a fire crew assigned to a fire that was threatening the town of Weed, California when one of the crew trucks broke down after shift. The first tow service I called wanted to charge $950.00 (during an emergency that could easily wipe out their business and the town) to tow the truck ONE MILE to the repair shop. I called Black Butte and the person who helped me was appalled. The tow charge with them was a mere $85.00! Furthermore, the tow had to wait until the repair shop had a bay open. I have to start with saying I hate tow companies. Most times they take advantage of the worst situations you find your self in. These guys changed my whole opinion on this. I had a food concession trailer flip on highway 89 during highway 5 being shut down. It was terribly stressful because this was a piece of my business. They had 4 guys 2 trucks and a small crane to right trailer and charged me a 1/3 of what I would have paid if any other company had come out and they bought trailer to an area where I could remove equipment I needed from trailer without getting a dime from me yet on work they had done. The staff also picked up and loaded stock that came Out and went into ditch that trailer was in and helping me load it into my truck. They went above and beyond in every aspect of what they did and made a terrible night so much better. Although the towing was good, the personal experience was Devastating! After being involved in a big rig accident, my main concern was to safely get off the highway and someplace dry to take a shower and warm up. When my partner returned to pick up our personal belongings in the tractor, he was told that "the other driver" me, took everything. Well needless to say this was a bold face lie!!!!! These guys are great. I recently lost a motor in big rig on I-5, was in a very bad spot on off ramp. They showed up within minutes, quikly hooked up to my truck. Towed me to a safe spot and stayed to help diagnose problem. He then hooked me up with a hotel and resturant within walking distance. The bill was supprising low. He then returned the next day and towed truck to His yard to stow for me. [ im from wash.] He then loaded Me and my co-driver into His truck . Oh and all of our gear. Gave us a ride to town where we could get a room and eat and catch a bus home. Once again very low bill. To top it off co-driver forgot our paperwork from haul, so we called He p/u co-driver took him to truck to get paperwork. At no extra cost. These Guys do it old school. Hard work and honesty. Ive been driving truck and operateing heavy equip. for almost 30 yrs. Very few men like the Guy who helped Us. And I never got His name. He made a bad situation alot better.
