Good almond latte! Smooth tasting espresso and they use califia farms almond milk. Yum! Almond and soy milk are the non dairy options. My almond latte was $5 for I believe 12oz. My order was ready pretty fast despite the girl right in front of me ordering 5 drinks! They also have some pastries like donuts from underwest, and some cookies (I saw gluten free and vegan options for the cookies). Pretty small store, very cozy and hippie vibe. Not a huge amount of seating. To be honest most of the good craft coffee places in NY area are of this standard. This was good but there is also a lot of great coffee in the Bedford Area. The owner is absolutely ridiculous and forces every customer to obey arbitrary rules. I have been a few times with a large group, the majority of us buying a coffee and a pastry, ready to enjoy an afternoon and without fail the owner interrupts us to specifically point out those of us who chose not to order and force them to buy something. I don't know if he's cheap or just enjoys controlling customers, but either way he is incredibly rude. On top of that, he will not allow a single chair to be moved, even if the place is empty and paying customers want to sit with their group. I have never been to a restaurant with such horrible service, and I will not be back. There are more comfortable coffee shops and cafes within a 2 minute walk who appreciate their customers and are happy to accommodate. Stay away from here if you want to enjoy your day. read more

Came here around 2:30pm on a Saturday to chill with my friend - it was super busy. It seems that a lot of people come here to study and chill. I like that they have benches and tables set aside for those who aren't there to use their laptop and the wifi. We were debating whether or not to stay because there was no where to sit - but luckily because of these tables/benches we were able to sit down as some people left. I got the cortado and my friend got the cappuccino. Their expresso is pretty good. Their latte art seems to be consistent as I watched the baristas make all the drinks. They were all pretty friendly. It seems like this place has a lot of regulars. They gave me hearts for my order to differentiate mine from all the others which was super sweet. But then again, I was behind like 5 guys lol. Conveniently located in the center of South Williamsburg, Black Brick was certainly among one of those better places. Williamsburg has its fair share of trendy coffee shops, and I like how Black Brick doesn't try to be too cool for school. Their menu is pretty straightforward, and their decor is dark and warm, with mismatched furniture that reminds me of a modern day Central Perk. The Stumptown coffee is reliably tasty, but I typically go for the tea. I try NOT to go for the delicious Dough donuts they always have displayed in their case, but typically I fail and end up with one of those fluffy concoctions as well. Though I enjoy working here, I appreciate that there are certain laptop free zones, to encourage conversation and interaction with the real world. The baristas also make an effort to make conversation and take it further than your typical coffee purchasing interaction, and they seem to have quite a few regulars, which is always a good thing. And - free wifi! In the age of phone tethering it may not seem like quite a luxury anymore but it's a nice touch. My only complaint is, unfortunately, their cash only policy. In the age of Square I don't know why any business would insist on cash only, and I'd be a much more frequent customer if I could use a credit card when I'm cash free but donut hungry! read more

My brother recommended that I go to Black Brick to study. I came in around 8am and it was pretty empty. The baristas were friendly and attempted to strike a conversation with me in their empty shop. By 8:30~9am, I noticed a line form as more people came by to pick up their morning coffee on the way to work. I ordered a soy latte which was nice and smooth. I watched the barista as he prepared it and was impressed by the level of detail he put into making it (measuring the espresso, patting it down carefully, and timing the machine). I only wished it was a bit warmer as it was cooler than lukewarm temp. [- 1 star] I sat in the back where laptops are "allowed", next to a low table that had a pile of books related to coffee. I wasn't a huge fan of the metal table because it was super cold against my skin. Whenever someone moved his/her mug/plate around, it made an unpleasant nails-against-the-chalkboard screech. I also found the chairs to be uncomfortable as they reminded me of the wooden chairs from elementary school. It was hard to concentrate because I was so cold from the table and cool breeze that never went away. [- 1 star] [in case anyone cares - a bathroom is available for customers and there's free wifi.] The biggest turnoff (which is out of Black Brick's control but I have to mention because it was the main reason I ran out of there) was the guy sitting next to me who would not stop coughing. He coughed into the air and occasionally partially covered his mouth with his hands. I wish he coughed into his elbows the appropriate way. Come on, man, it's flu season! Once again, I was looking for a place to get some work done. This place popped up on my yelp app and i made a mad dash for it. I love that they have Stumptown Coffee. You can call me a chipster or pretentious or whatever, but the thing is, good coffee tastes really good just by itself. And that is how Stumptown tastes every time. It doesn't have to be adulterated with refined sugar and dairy to disguise the bitterness. It is just good BLACK. So the name of the place is fitting. The inside is a cross between industrial and barnyard. I was staring at a floor lamp for awhile, and thought the light bulb was pretty neat. I was having a space cadet moment.
