We were excited to come and try out this new place as the decor looked great on the outside. We were a bit confused about the entrance to the resto as we entered through the patio doors. They luckily allowed us to enter from that door as we had reservations on the patio. Service was both good and bad. Upon being seated, we were told that we could not be seated on a both since we were 3 people but we saw many booths filled with only 2 people throughout the evening. Some of us took advantage of the advantage of the prime rib Sunday deal which includes caesar salad, 12 oz Northern Gold Slow roasted Prime Rib, Yorkshire pudding, mashed potatoes, seasonal vegetables, and a B+B Buttercake for dessert. We had hoped that the salad be prepped table side like the other patrons but maybe it was due to the fat that it was part of the combo. The salad was great with light sauce as well as crispy romaine lettuce and anchovies on top. I was not a big fan of the Yorkshire pudding and the prime rib was just ok. There was confusion on the plates as one of us ordered the regular 14 oz instead of the combo. We got brussel sprouts for our seasonal greens and the mash was pretty good. The buttercake was just average but nice and warm. Patio outside was nice but somewhat on the warm side. Loved the interior decor and the bar plus the washrooms were upstairs. At times, it could be difficult to navigate to the stairs as there were only 3 paths given the table layout. The one near the impressive meat aging cabinet had lots of wait staff near the POS while the middle path was the same. The only unobstructed path was the far end by the front windows around the bar. For a Sunday night, there were many tables filled. Overall a good experience but will wait for a while to return. read more

Went on a Sunday for the prime rib special, we all love prime. 5 out of 5 of the prime ribs we ordered came cold, not even the plate was warm. the Yorkshire pudding was cold and hard, when I complained they told me they always serve it like that. they said the steaks were cold because they cut it based on temperature we ordered, well four of us got medium rare and one was medium so I do not see how that justifies all five orders being cold. This is a nope for me. Out of so many impressive restaurants in Toronto, this one is not it. Granted, the environment and decor is beautiful but for this price I was expecting better quality food and better service. Ambiance is great though so if you're here just for the ambiance then it will do. If you're bringing someone for a work dinner or lunch, I think this is a good place. If you're here for the food, there are many much better places in Toronto. I ordered the chicken entree and it was pretty tough and dry. The flavour comes purely from the sauce - the chicken itself has no taste. Another of our party ordered a steak and it was mid - there's really no other way to describe it. The service actually started out good, my water was always full and they would come around to scrape the food crumbs off the table after every course. However when it came time to pay and we wanted split checks the server gave us an attitude for even daring to request such a thing. First of all, our bill is not even that complicated to split and second of all I've never been to a Toronto restaurant that doesn't offer split checks. I know in other cities split checks may not be common, but in Toronto most restaurants will even ask you if you wanted to split the bill or pay in one bill so this is honestly not an astronomical ask. Anyway, we did tell them that if it's too hard it's fine we can pay in one bill and split it ourselves after but we would prefer just being able to pay for our own meals at the table. In the end they were able to split our bills but it also did take a very long time. Maybe their POS system is not versatile, is outdated, and is not able to split bills easily? This experience left us with a bad taste in our mouth bc you would assume a restaurant supposedly operating at this higher level, charging these higher prices, would be able to do this simple (and common) ask easily and without the attitude. I don't think this is asking too much at a restaurant where there is a $450 seafood tower on the menu and a regular (dry) roast chicken entree is already $39. I'm actually confused why this restaurant has such a low rating. This was my first experience and it was beyond perfection. First when we got to the restaurant, my sister requested if we could possibly sit in the same section as a server she had a week prior (Andrew) when she came. That alone shocked me because she never remembers any server names. They obliged and we waited at the bar why the table was being prepared. Andrew came by to say hello to my sister; what was incredibly impressive was he remembered she came with our mom and also the dessert they ordered (it had been a week... ). The atmosphere is beautiful and I can see it used for business meals to celebratory events. In the back you can see where they're aging their steaks with a Himalayan Salt wall. They start your meal with a complimentary aperitif and then if you like they will walk you through the various steak cuts but once I saw the menu I knew what I wanted so declined the offer. Everything Andrew recommended was fabulous. We started with the beets which has a nice smokiness to it but the yogurt in the dish levels out the taste nicely. My table ordered the Beef Wellington, mushroom risotto, wagyu fries rice and creamed corn. The carving of the Wellington was a presentation in its out. They bring it out on a butchers block and cut it table side to show the perfect medium rare center than serves it for you. It was wonderful! The mushroom risotto was dangerously good and I could have just ate the wagyu fried rice on its own. The portions were large enough to share and also take some of the sides home. Since it was my birthday they even brought me out a butter cake which I think the group was fighting to lick the plate at the very end. I would absolutely come back here. read more

Went here last night with friends. 4 of us. It is located inside what used to be the Toronto stock exchange place I believe. The place is enormous and looks beautiful. There were certainly a few front of door issues but no biggie, it's a new place and hopefully they will figure that out. We sat at the bar, got some drinks as were early and eventually were taken upstairs area to be seated. Upstairs looked nice too. BUT it was really hot. And it seems they couldn't control the temp as it was controlled by the building ? I have no idea how that works but it was way too hot. The service was ummmm fine. I done know what to say other than no one seemed very excited to be there and that reflects on the overall experience. But again maybe they are just figuring out stuff and did I mention it was HOT? Ok now the food. It was not good. For appetizers We got "table side" beef tartar,"table side" Caesar, crab cakes, beet salad, o toro nigiri and oysters. The oysters were fresh and tasty. Everything else was not good. The table side tartar and Caesar were not table side at all. Apparently they couldn't fit it next to our table ? Say what ? The tar tar was one of the worst Tartars I have ever had. The meat was not cut properly and had uneven peace's all over. There were literally king chunks of meat and then a little cube. It was bad. We sent back half of it. The rest of the food was as the kids say "mid". I expect a 40 dollar crab cake to be well not mid. Suffice to say we decided to get our check and leave. Went here for date night in Toronto. We only had apps and drinks since we went during their happy hour. We went around 3pm on a Friday night and we were seated right away at the bar. Our bartender was really nice and helped us with our drink selection! We ordered the steak tartar bites to try and ended up ordering more since they were so good!! The food was great. We had a seafood tower, and a whole bunch of food. I had the Wagyu beef as the main which was great. The Caesar salad was massive, so I shared some of mine who opted for the steak tartare. I have never had butter cake before, but it was really nice! The only thing I didn't like was the mashed potatoes - they tasted like instant to me, even though that's very likely not the case *shrug*. We had servers coming in and out of our private room and they were very attentive to us. The room was quite cramped for our group wanting to mingle. It was fine to sit, but standing and walking around was tight. When the door to our private room was open, it was noisy from the other guests at the restaurant, but other than that, it was a very nice experience! read more

Took an out of town guest there for brunch. Brunch menu had a good selection. I ordered coffee. Server apologized 2x as it didn't come by the time I was ready to order nor was it ready when our appetizer cocktail shrimp arrived. Coffee was French press so I don't know why it took so long or if their machine was down and French press was an emergency option. Shrimp cocktail was great. Good size, shrimp had the right texture. Good portion for price in downtown. I had the lobster omelette. Good lobster pieces in there, sides were potatoes and salad which were also delicious. The omelette itself was overcooked and/or they used not so great eggs/ or pre-mixed? It wasn't runny, it just tasted flat (I always prefer to get my own eggs from the farmers market where the shells aren't has hard as the farmed eggs). Food was excellent. Service was excellent. Space is nice. But ... hostess and kitchen staff I spoke with were clueless about what Celiac disease is. Hostess told me the Celiac would not be a problem, just remind the waiter not to put butter on anything (nothing to do with Celiac). When transferred to kitchen to speak with someone who may be educated, was informed I would be fine but to bring my epipen just in case. Again, nothing to do with Celiac. Six of us went to Black + Blue for a birthday celebration for my husband and father-in-law. Although the staff was attentive, and the side dishes were expensive but tasty, we paid over eight hundred dollars for wagyu beef that was essentially fat and gristle. There were only a couple of decent bites of steak in the entire meal, and we felt totally taken advantage of. At this price point, a steak restaurant should acquire excellent beef and know how to cook it. We will never return. read more

Disappointing. The quality of food is very very low, honestly terrible. The Steak is dry and tough, no where near as tender as the cuts should be given the price. I've had better steak for half the price down the street. It's also served with no garnishing. The salad was drowned in cheap dressing, similar to what you'd get at a local bar. My friend tried the Otoro sushi nigiri and sashimi, said both were very oily and poor quality. I've been to almost every Steakhouse in the city so I was very excited to try Black&Blue after it opened up but unfortunately it was a huge let down. The interior ambiance is nice but the service is subpar. Waitress wasn't rude but didn't even bother to check on us after serving the food to see how we liked it. I would not recommend this place. I dined in with my family for a special occasion and had a terrible experience because of their bartender, Brennan. He was extremely unprofessional and had a bad attitude. I am shocked that they would hire someone like him considering it looks like a nicer classier establishment. Wow. I've never written a review before, but I just have to for this restaurant. We came here on Monday (May 22) to celebrate an anniversary. We had a very below average experience. We ordered the brioche, mushroom risotto, 16 oz rib eye with truffle jus, king salmon roll, brussel sprouts, and butter cake, and 2 cosmopolitans. The night started off with a complimentary which I thought was a really nice touch, and it was delicious. I did notice our server only filled our glasses up half way while he filled other tables glasses up all the way. I was not too bothered by it, but found it strange. Next came our cosmopolitans. They come with some sort of smoke bubble on them. After he put the bubble on my partner's drink, he gave up on mine after multiple failed attempts; I was a bit disappointed. Next came the brioche. It was HUGE! I would recommend getting this for 4 or more people. It was good, but nothing special. Next came the king salmon roll. This was absolutely delicious. It's tasted very fresh, 10/10. We then got the risotto. It wasn't very flavorful and the rice was undercooked. We then waited VERY long for our steak to come. It was awkward to sit at a table for so long with no food while everyone around us was eating. Our server came to our table to tell us it's taking so long because we ordered it medium well and that's normal. No, that's not normal! We waited at least an hour to get our steak after finishing the risotto. When we got the steak, it wasn't even good. No flavour and uneven cooking. Some pieces were medium well, but most were well done. I had much higher expectations for a steakhouse. The truffle jus tasted nothing like truffle. I asked my server if it was the right one because it didn't taste like truffle. He said "one moment I'll be right back". Here I am thinking he is going to double check with the kitchen or do something to make it better. Instead he comes back with a glass, pours it in the glass, and then proceeds to drink it! NEVER IN MY LIFE HAVE I HAD A SERVER EAT OFF MY TABLE! That is completely unacceptable! He then says it's the right one and leave the half empty jus on the table. The brussel sprouts were completely burnt. I love crispy brussel sprouts, but I couldn't eat these. Lastly, we had the butter cake it was good, but a bit too sweet. When we got our bill I saw that we were charged for the tuna roll instead of the salmon. When I pointed it out, the server told us it's the same price; it's not.....To top off this awful night, not one person acknowledged that it was our anniversary. If you're not going to acknowledge this then don't ask what the occasion is on the booking! I will definitely not be returning to this restaurant! Went and tried this newly opened steakhouse in Toronto with high expectations but very disappointed. The restaurant is nicely decorated and fairly good atmosphere. Very New York style. However, most dishes we ordered and tried tonight are really soso. Some steaks are not even cooked right. The crab cake is more like a crab salad, with crab meat all diced up...no lumps of sweet crab meat and also cold. The caesar salad tastes quite light, no character and flavor. Prime rib is not bad but the yorkshore pudding is tough. Lastly, the crepe suzette is not made traditionally, the crepes are not cooked enough in the sauce and the recipe is not correct. I have much much better crepe suzette in the past. Not recommended for now,.....can try later if they improves..p.s. they DO NOT have a cockages policy and this is BAD BAD BAD...even if the food are good, this will deter wine collector like myself to go.
