Apologies for the delay in posting: What a lovely stop on the Hockley Road near the Hockley Valley Ski Resort. While the parking lot was a sheet of ice thanks to a Christmas Eve Eve storm, the restaurant was cozy and welcoming, and made for a great stop for a catch up. Our waitress was a charmer who gave us great food advice and privacy for our visit. The burger was a win (and I am judgy), the fries top shelf and the presentation charming. My husband and I had last minute reservations at The Black Birch for New Years Eve dinner. We had escargot for an appetizer and I had the duck for dinner. Both prepared with fresh ingredients. The food tastes as good as it looks in the pictures. The service was friendly and relaxed. They have great people working there. The food was perfect with great flavours and combinations. Please eat here if you are in the area and have the opportunity to stop in. They also have live music on Saturday nights. read more

This is a wonderful gem of a restaurant. It has a warm, quiet ambiance with a rustic feel to it. The service was excellent and our server was friendly and helpful, nearby whenever we needed something but not intrusive. The food was wonderful! Well worth the drive. read more

Apologies for the dim picture, but this location is a lovely hidden gem. The parking lot can fill about 10 vehicles (dont quote me on this) with rustic washrooms and hanging chandeliers and even hvac. I was here for a lovely evening even after their official closing. The staff are very able to memorize drink orders and are busy bees filling orders. The location hosts a nice outdoor tent and even flooring (so you arent dancing in the mud) with portable heaters. If you're looking for the country charm this might be it. BTW their salads are gigantic and delicious. Coffee is like an italian house smooth blend. A warm and cozy restaurant with the friendliest staff. They are open for lunch from 12-3 and dinner 5-close. Dropped in for a spot of afternoon tea and was delighted by the lovely selection of desserts, teas, coffees and drinks. My friends and peers from work had a great time here. Everything was tenderly delicious. The Lamb Shank, Lemon and Dill Salmon Absolutely delicious. The desserts were also great especially the dark chocolate cake, and if your gluten free the chocolate peanut butter pie was smooth as silk. Lovely little spot for lunch or dinner if you are out in the country. The restaurant is a charming old building with a beautiful garden at the back - so you can admire the wildflowers from its windows. The food was well made and presented. I had grilled salmon with its skin crisply grilled and served separately on top; my partner had a bison burger topped with crisply fried sweet and salty onions. Dessert was chocolate pate with dense, dark chocolate and strawberry sauce. The service was attentive and friendly, and the ambiance cosy. I would definitely return!! read more

Such great food ! Sunday's they have prime rib dinners including a Yorkshire pudding !! Yum yum. Lots of gravy and fresh veggies. Menu reflects what's in season and what they have fresh ingredients of. They had a lots of duck and crab/lobster in the rest of the menu. We had a great Rothschild red wine and even when my dads animated hands knocked the glass all over the table and wall the server was gracious and didn't embarrass him. The interior is cozy but was a bit chilly with the air conditioning. Beautiful view of the rolling hills and humming birds. Beautiful music playing and artwork on display. Desserts are also homemade and you can get a trio of three flavours. We had lemon tart chocolate cake and carrot cake. Also great cappuccinos. Went to the Black Birch for the Prime rib special with high hopes and we were not disappointed. Fabulous wine selection, onion, pear & caraway baked brie, caesar salad, prime rib done to perfection with roast vegetables & Yorkshire pudding. A complete and utter disappointment with all aspects. Dirty and dusty interior. The kitchen is open and is disgustingly dirty looking. They advertise all you can eat mussels on Thursdays, but each time we have gone in there, we have been told, by the 3rd plate of mussels, that they have run out??? The most recent trip to this out of the way location, we were told they were out of mussels even before we sat down for dinner at 6:30pm(we had made a reservation and confirmed we were there for the all-you-can-eat special). What a crock!!! I will be sure to tell 100 of my friends and associates to stay away from this particular restaurant, and to spend their money in an establishment that appreciates their business. Truly a small minded business approach! I feel sorry for the servers who have to feed that crap/line to customers. Save the hassle and travel another 1/2km down the road to the Hockley Valley Resort where they know how to treat their patrons. read more

This is my second visit to this establishment for lunch. If you are looking for a folksy, rustic place to partake of your nourishment then this is a great place to visit. The menu is limited but the meals are very well prepared in this rustic environment. The staff is friendly, knowledgable and experienced. This is a great destination place to visit.
