FINALLY!! It's been a few years that I've been wanting to come and check out this place, and I'll tell you, it was certainly worth the wait! I had a girls dinner planned for a Sunday and had a reservation although it wouldn't have been necessary that particular evening. Service was amazing, and I wished I had the servers name so I could give a shout out to her awesomeness! There were 4 of us at the table and ordered the pate appetizer to share and it was great. Came with a bunch of different pickles that were a nice add on to the creamy pate. The freshest bread I've ever had was also brought to the table which we devoured rather quickly. We all ordered the prime rib special which came with a humongous Yorkshire pudding, mashed potato, and beautiful combo of veggies-beets, brussels, carrot and celery root. I order prime rib whenever I get the opportunity and it was probably the best one I've had yet. Done to perfection and melt in your mouth tenderness! If you are ever in the area, you must stop in for a cozy dining experience. I can't wait to return and try some other menu options. read more

What happened to The Globe?! No longer fine dining, no longer a classy place for a special meal. It's now pub food, with a crummy modern interior remodel. The beautiful historic interior is mostly gone along with the ambiance. Also gone, remember that glorious fresh fruit water? Forget it! Gone! Our waitress had never even heard of it. Our waitress is wearing tights and a crop top. The tights are...tight, outlining her entire form, at table height. Really? That's their version of classy? My lunch date was as disappointed as I was. Expected fine dining, but found pub food is the new fare. I had Eggs Benny, average, bland and served on bread -ewww & friend had a chicken bowl. Bowl choices were too heavy with potatoes, bland & just generally heavy. The new incarnation of this once fine dining restaurant is a true loss for the community. The destruction of that gorgeous historic interior...too sad! The new interior has all the ambiance of a Five Guys. Doubt we'll go back. For the restaurant to be as empty as it was just 2 Sundays from Christmas tells the story! What a loss, such a shame. read more

We stopped by on our way to Collingwood at 9 pm on a Friday night. We called the restaurant to make sure they were still open, the server checked with the kitchen and told us that they will accommodate us. We got lost a few times before finally finding the restaurant. A table of 4, we ordered the NY strip, salmon, roasted chicken and I got the trout. The entrees cost between $21-30 and comes with a soup or a juice and fresh bread. Everything was amazing! The food was so delicious and what food should taste like. The bread was warm and yummy. My trout was the best trout I've ever had. It was perfect! I wanted to try the blueberry pie but the entree size was fairly large and I was stuffed. Also, we were the last table and didn't want to keep the staff waiting - although they were all very pleasant and never rushed us. On our way out, our server gave us a loaf of freshly baked focaccia bread! read more

Went to the Globe restaurant last Saturday for the first time in about four years. The renovations have been completed and the main room is more open but still cosy. The staff were welcoming, friendly efficient at their service. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meals. They were tasty, and well presented. I had the English onion soup. Their bread was really good. My main meal was the beef ribs with mashed potatoes, carrots and green beans. Mouth watering! Dessert was the raspberry pie with ice cream. Coffee to finish. This is a little family owned restaurant near Alliston, on highway 89. The decor gives you a very tradition, granny, country style type of warm feeling.... They have been in business for at least two decades...and they have lots of repeated, loyal, regular customers that lives in the area. I cannot speak for their regular menu, but for Thanksgiving, it was prix fix menu for $40 pp. You get a soup, a main (5-6 different options), coffee/tea and choice of dessert ( there are at least 6-7 plates of different desserts). Soup and appetizers - you get complimentary homemade tea biscuits, they are so good, they sell it too, $2.5 for 6. The curry tomato chick pea soup was wonderful. Main - we tried the smoked pork chop and the grilled halibut. I think the main was the least amazing part of the dinner.....the smoked park tasted good, but I think it's a bit dry. The halibut tastes like frozen seafood quality...but everything was super hot when they were served, so I think that's bonus points. Dessert - we got the bread pudding and chocolate cake. It was SO GOOD!! The chocolate cake almost got the texture of a brownie, very rich chocolate and paired with vanilla ice cream. The bread pudding got some cranberry in the middle..very festive and refreshing. It is on the sweeter side though...but it's good! At the end...they gave us some homemade chocolates too! read more

I was here last week for dinner. I had the steak frites. My steak was a perfectly cooked medium rare. The frites were super thin shoestring. They were okay, but shoestring fries are never my favourite. You can start your meal off with a juice or soup. I tried the gazpacho and it was really good. Refreshing with a nice hint of heat. The rolls and biscuits they provide in the bread basket are also really yummy - particularly the biscuits. Service was very pleasant, but it is a bit slow so allow yourself a lot of time. read more

Beautiful and cozy ambience and service was nice. Food was decent, nothing that wowed me. The pre dinner bread was really good (home made tea biscuits) and dinner rolls. We had the Mussels for appetizer, very good.We had the Filet Mignon, cooked as ordered.Bit small for $30, seemed like maybe a 5 or 6 oz cut.Server brought 3 different chutneys to try with dinner also very good. Bit pricey for what you get but we knew what to expect from friends who recommended this place. Would go back,but not planning soon. read more

My wife and I were married only weeks ago and our reception was held at the delightful Globe Restaurant in Rosemont Ontario. Helena and her staff made our day more special than one can imagine! The atmosphere was elegant and the food was exquisite! Even though we arrived early from the church, staff was more than accommodating making everyone feel comfortable and welcomed.  We both wish to express our appreciation to the Globe, Helena and her efficient staff. Where should I begin? 5 of us went to Globe for lunch on Saturday, it has been a long time since the restaurant changed ownership. We were so looking forward to try the new Globe and excited, but then new experience didn't knock our socks off. I must say the service at new Globe is professional and attentive, that's why 3 starts for them but we don't like the new menu and their food is bland. This restaurant was a perfect "Farm to the table" 5 start before: presentation, taste, and menu items were carefully selected. Now the menu is changed into healthy, organic and positioned as upscale but lost that old charm character - warm, history, family feeling, hearty. I missed those delicious potato fries, calamaris I used to love so much. It's not worthy for me to drive all the way 1.5 hr from Downtown Toronto to come here try "non country food", if you know what I mean. Only 4 tables at noon on Saturday, you know it's going downhills. I won't come back. read more

Wow. Before the new ownership, I felt like I was eating 6 week old frozen chicken and vegetables. New ownership, not only fixed up a beautiful historic building, but also instituted a new fresh from farm menu! Frozen Zehr's pies have been replaced with home made freshly baked pies with ice cream to die for! Happy to pay a little more to support the local community and actually eat fresh healthy food! This is a must go to place if you are travelling along hwy 89 between Alliston and Shelburne. The service is extremely friendly and top notch. The appetizers and main entree were amazing. It was the best prime roast I have ever tasted , so tender you could cut it with a fork and the garlic mashed potatoes were amazing. It is a definite place I would return to again and again. Next time it will be for lunch....according to the staff its an out of this world lunch. read more

We had been waiting to go to this restaurant for some time now and had the opportunity to visit just a couple of weeks ago as part of a lovely celebration. We were shown to the upstairs Library which was slated to hold approx just under 30 people. Trying to get a drink, other than help ourselves to water was a hassle. The Hostess~Bartender had to continue to run up and down the stairs for not only glasses but ice and in some cases, the contents of the drink itself. There has been such an awful rain storm just a couple of hours before we were to arrive that the windows were not open and nor was the air conditioning on even tho this party had been planned for some time. The air outside got very humid which is hard to predict this spring so therefore the Library was quite stuffy so we opened some windows. There was no appetizers other than a couple of baskets of very greasy potato chips of sorts. We were in the Library for about 2 hours before moving into the private dining room just across the hall, which sadly didn't have the air conditioning on nor the windows open either. The Hostess came around asking for our appetizer selection which as it was a Celebration had been the choice of soup or salad and was brought out sparatically, again drinks were hard to come by other than the water and the punch that was already on the tables. At least now the Hostess had the help of another Lady. The mains were brought out and unfortunately had to be brought up from downstairs 2 at a time and I was served before the Guest of Honour which of course I didn't start till everyone was served. About 5 minutes of waiting for everyone to be served, the Hostess came and took my plate away stating "this is someone else's, I will be back with yours". So she went and picked up a plate from someone else and gave them the plate that I had been breathing on for 5 minutes which I assume that person had been doing on mine as well. I did order my beef RARE, but I didn't expect it to be still kicking when it arrived in front of me. The 2 tablespoons of mashed potato and the raw undercooked carrots didn't help to make the meal edible, I asked for a doggy bag so I could cook the meat when I got home. For a Restaurant that is considered FINE DINING I was appalled that this dinner service was acceptable practice. Imagine the 2 Ladies that had to run up and down the very narrow staircase with the meals, and why was the Bride and Groom not served 1st??? It was so hot in that room, even with a couple of windows behind the head table open that a member of the Wedding Party had to be escorted out to get some fresh air. We have spent many years driving by The Globe and were very much looking forward to enjoying out experience but sadly this is def not a place I would recommend. Note that when we all left the restaurant, there were maybe only 2 tables occupied downstairs so I don't think that " a rush" was a consideration in this case. The food was very salty, and raw. emerge through an archway of sunflowers, past the pair of peacocks hidden beyond the wire fence. stepping into this place is like entering a different world. make a reservation, this hidden gem is frequented by locals. the decor is authentic and charming, down to the victorian lamps and floral wallpaper. history permeates the atmosphere here, it took me a moment to take it all in. warm tea biscuits were served with homemade spiced jellies and rhubarb chutneys made that morning. i had the special--prime rib with roasted veg (fingerling potatoes, beets, carrots, onion, corn), and he had the salmon with blueberries picked from the farm down the road. everything was spot on. sweet, light, and seemingly effortless, the veggies were perfectly executed--"this is the best damn roasted carrot i've ever had"; as were both proteins, flaky moist salmon and medium rare prime rib with horseradish and au jus. my creamy roasted tomato soup was EXACTLY as its name suggests, rich, smooth and divine. they also had an impressive selection of fresh fruit pies and desserts to top the meal off right. i'm already planning to make this a destination spot. go for a late dinner, stop for some stargazing on the way home, take advantage of the country views. i can't stop thinking about those tea biscuits. read more

This is by far the best restaurant in Dufferin County: cosy, welcoming with an excellent, unpretentious menu featuring local food, cooked perfectly and beautifully presented. We have enjoyed lunches, dinners, special event menu (Mother's Day) and parties at our home, catered by the Globe kitchen. I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough! read more

Any reviews previous to mine should be disregarded. This establishment has recently changed ownership. It has gone from a lovely restaurant to a horrible one! Eight of us went for dinner together about two months after "the change" and what a fiasco. Apps took an hour, dinner another hour, the server only came once to give us cocktails (two servers for 4 tables in the restaurant occupied). We had to get our own water, food was hideous. One of our group described his mushroom soup as mushed cardboard. No dessert offered, although I think that's a good thing as our neighbour told me that she was charged $12.95 for a piece of raspberry pie, made out of house, that used to be $4.95 at the Globe! The kicker, was, our bill for only two of us was $200, get this, they added a 20% tip for our server! I'm a good tipper as I used to work in a restaurant, but seriously, you have to give some kind of service to earn it! Don't go here! Don't go here! Don't go here! read more
