Super sweet server! Food was uninspired, over cooked and cold at same time? When they ask you how you prefer your beef cooked and you say medium, then your plate arrives 2 minutes later and it's leather AND cold? Again, super nice server but ran all the tables alone. Understaffed? We tried it and there was nothing there to make us want to return. Maybe bad night or just our taste? read more

Wow those aren't normal biscuits! They could be a whole meal on its own! We first went to the Fort Worth location. But for our friend's birthday we tried the waffle too. The waffle has a Bear on it! The ambiance is so cozy and we love the bear theme and bear plushies. My wife and are pretty picky about breakfast. And we were blown away by how good this food was. My wife is from Georgia and always critiques the grits wherever she goes and says they aren't authentic. And she loved these grits! I especially loved the sliced ham! It was excellent! We tried the coffee again this time and were not disappointed. Our server was attentive and kind. We will be coming back! read more

Food was excellent. I highly recommend the bread pudding French toast. All the desserts looked amazing but it was just too early. The bacon was super thick and the best bacon I have ever had at a restaurant! read more

First of all, very friendly, excellent service.I believe I would like to give them a five star i would recommend people to come and eat here

I would give this zero stars if I could. We arrived and there were quite a few people waiting to be seated. We asked the hostess how long the wait would be and she said 20 minutes. While we were waiting, we saw tons of open tables with no people. Turns out the hostess was just signing folks up, but not actually paying attention to when tables cleared. Another employee came and finally cleared the bottleneck and sat a bunch of folks. Once we sat, this same employee brought our drinks bc nobody was paying attention. We waited 10 minutes, in the back dining room which was empty except one other table. When she finally showed up, we immediately ordered bc we had been waiting so long. She took our order and left. Where we were seated, we could see into the prep area. We saw about 5 waitresses all hanging out, playing on their phones, and eating. We saw one other waitress working like crazy trying to get people taken care of. Nobody helped her or left to check on their tables. After an hour at this point, we walked out. There were still tons of folks waiting to be seated, a bunch of empty tables, and the waitresses just hanging out. 0/10 would not recommend and we won't be going back. read more

I came here recently with my mom and was shocked at how cute it is! When you step inside Black Bear Diner it feels like you enter a little restaurant at the bottom of a ski lift in Colorado! The menus are made to look like newspapers and everything is very wood lodge and bear themed! The food is also amazing! There is plenty to choose from and the breakfast is an all day affair! Overall I think this diner is a hidden gem! read more

Hubby and I decided to eat dinner at Black Bear this evening. Food and service was good as always , however, as we were leaving we witnessed a couple and their dog coming in. Our waitress welcomed them in and sat them down at a booth inside with their dog. Dog was not a service dog either . That's GROSS ... Really Black Bear??? When did ya'll start letting the dogs in? I can understand welcoming dogs if you had a patio, but inside? That's disturbing and nasty. Who wants dog hair flying around over their food? read more

Decided to finally try it. I have been apprehensive since I am from northern California and many of the Texas versions are not as good. This one isn't either. It looks just like it, but that's it. We waited to be just to have someone acknowledge us for three minutes, employee after employee walked by, at least 10 passes by us, not one said " hello or welcome". So many employees and not one smile or happy conversation to be heard through our entire visit. I definitely would recommend service training to create a more friendly atmosphere. The scramble eggs are not fresh, so they come cooked hard or harder, the thick bacon is pretty thin, the biscuits and gravy came with the gravy poured over the outside of the biscuit, who does that? Turn it over and let it soak in. The one good item was the smoked ham, delicious. Really a bummer as I wanted to like it so much, but will stick with my Rockwall breakfast places. read more

I was told there was a wait, tons of tables available, then told only had 3 servers. That was fine for a wait. A party comes in behind me and they seat them, but I was just told we couldn't be seated because they don't have servers. Would not recommend if this is how they treat customers read more

Arrived with a party of 17 to celebrate a birthday party. Told wait time was 45 minutes. At the 1.5 hour mark we literally had to request to be seated. There were several open spot available. And rather seat us in a group, the seated us all in separate tables. Now keep in mind there were a set of tables in a group that would accomadate us, but we were not given that option. The management staff were very unaccomadating. read more

We are very familiar with Black Bear, as we have family in California and BB is abundant there. I was excited to see that they opened one here! We had an overall very good experience. The decor is everything we love about Black Bear. Our server was Leo, he was very kind & attentive. I ordered the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes & green beans. Everything was very good. My son ordered the chicken fried steak breakfast and his was also very good. I did take a star off because the potatoes were not hot & the coffee was just mildly warm....cold after the first sip. I usually love the coffee at Black Bear, so that was a letdown. We will return when we are in town, next time for breakfast. I'm hoping the California Egg Benedict is as good here as in CA. read more

Chili was good in flavor, but very thick. Like, thicker than a stew. More like a bean goulash. So, no crackers can go in it. The Ruben sandwich also let him down. Didn't taste any dressing. Corned beef was a little lacking in presence and flavor. And barely any sauerkraut. Overall, big disappointment. Chicken fried steak went over well by OP, but he eats anything. I had breakfast: scrambled eggs, bacon and French toast. Nothing to write home about, but I enjoyed it. We went at 2:00 on a Monday. There were maybe 3 tables occupied. We didn't realize it's a big chain. So instead of a cute little diner, it's an IHOP or Denny's with a different name. read more

My and the wife's first time eating at this Black Bear Diner location. She had the Bob's black bear burger and side salad and I had the corn beef hash and eggs topped with cheese along with a side of bacon, spicy Italian sausage and French toast. Everything looked good on my plate but unfortunately as I ate my eggs I noticed a hair stuck in between my cheese and eggs....i pulled it out and set it to the side and continued to eat. I am not one to make a big fuss. Then I found another hair stuck in the cheese . I isolated the unwanted combo on a side plate. Then I found a third inch long hair egg cheese combo and called the waitress over. She looked at my compilation of hairs embedded in cheese and took the plate away immediately and apologized. She offered to have the dish remade but I didn't want it at that point. I continued to eat the French toast sausage and bacon sides and they were good. The wife liked her salad and burger although she felt the burger was a bit dry. The ambiance was nice and the waitress was attentive. It's a bit of a drive but we may try them again but whoever is cooking at this location in the back needs a Hair or possibly beard net. read more

Being from the east coast it has been difficult to find a diner that's not seen as a cafe. Well I can definitely say that falling upon this amazing place with amazing service and food to made it even better! My friend and I got own things as I LOVE egg Benedict's as I truly NEVER tasted the ones they made ever! It was super tasty!! Good service, friendly faces, traditional American diner food. I need to make this review 85 characters.

Lunch today just to check out the place. Service had gone downhill, but under new management. Our server, Cassidy, was excellent. Pot Roast, mashed potatoes, and green beans were also excellent. Only downside was; didn't split the check at the table, and you have to pay at front counter. I'll return. read more

What a wonderful addition to the alliance presidio area. Biscuits were true biscuits!! Huge , light and fluffy. Chicken fried steak was a huge portion. My eggs and potatoes were cooked to perfection. Love the bear them. Reminds me of the one of my favorite childhood stories, The Three Bears. Menu is on a news paper, nice touch, very different. It has a large selection of menu items. I ordered the Avocado on wheat toast, fresh fruit and eggs plate. Hubby got the Southern Scramble. Now bring your appetite because they feed you well! My fresh fruits were nice and sweet, my avocado toast was a fresh avocado placed on the toast. Hubby had two huge biscuits covered with a tasty sausage gravy. The red potatoes were a hit for me, well seasoned. I can say breakfast was a truly a hit at The Black Bear. read more

First off, I have been here many times and enjoyed everything thoroughly. NOT THIS TIME. So disappointing as it is a bit of a travel for us and we expected a treat. The choice was eggs with cheese, bacon, french toast, and cinnamon roll french toast for my husband. The french toasts came with powdered sugar which was also on the eggs; when I told the waitress that I did not want sugared eggs she first stated that was Ok, and then when I repeated myself she told me "you won't not even taste it." I then insisted that I did not want eggs with powdered sugar at which time she turned and returned with a plate of undercooked eggs with a miniscule amount of cheese (which they charge extra for) on them. Also, she brought an extra plate and requested to collect my sugared eggs. Unbelievable! My husband's eggs were cold and all of the bacon was under cooked. He also had powdered sugar on his eggs and told me that he could definitely taste it! She checked back on us and of course, I had nothing else to say to her. First of all DO NOT discount your customer's wishes and seriously why are the sweets even placed on the same plate with the eggs and bacon??? In hind site, I was so disappointed, I should have asked for a manager. Hopefully, this review will prompt some attention. I am not sure that we will make the travel again to see. read more

Black Bear Diner review Where do I start with this review? I'm really wanted to leave an overall good review but as I've looked back on the dining experience with my family, it was a very medicore experience despite me enjoying my meal overall. The meals ordered were: Fish and fries, which came with cod filets, hush puppies, and fries. This was a replacement meal as my mom's original order was out (All you can eat catfish). The 2 egg breakfast meal, which came with scrambled eggs, sausage, and two biscuits with gravy. I ordered the Chicken-fried Steak breakfast meal which also included eggs, grits, and substituted in sweet cream pancakes instead of biscuits and gravy. Lastly, a bowl of Chilli with a cornbread muffin to-go. I'll start with what went well/tasted great. The Chicken-fried Steak I ordered was delicious. As we're the eggs and sausage links. My brother enjoyed the biscuits and gravy and those were yummy while hot. The fries my mom got with her fish were good too as was the cornbread muffin that came with a side salad. Now what didn't taste great/go right was a much larger list. 1. The hush puppies were rock hard! Like trying to break them open was a real chore. Definitely overly fried. 2. Same thing for the fish ordered by my mom. It loss all sense of freshness and tenderness because it was so overly fried. She didn't even eat a whole filet. 3. The chill to go that my brother order never came (though at least it wasn't included on the check) 4. I didn't get my substituted pancakes or the original biscuit that came with the meal I ordered. I don't now if our server was just distracted, new, or both but it was just such a mess and I think between the long wait to even have a server come by once we were seated and the wait for food to arrive, we'd even realize how many items were missing by the time we wrap our meal. On the suface, I liked this place and would have wanted to return in the future, but after the ho-hum service and multiple missing items and quality of some of the meal portions, I don't know if that will be happening anytime soon. read more

Great food, yet I waited to be seated for like 20 minutes with all the empty tables and booths available. I count like 8 places to set down. There Wasn't people waiting outside. I had the Chicken Fried Steak really good. Lots of room no waiting even though the parking lot was full

My coworkers and I came in for lunch, we were very excited because we have been waiting for them to open for weeks. Upon arrival we we're greeted by several employees and shown to our table. We were presented with the menu and I instantly felt overwhelmed once I opened it up. There are a lot of menu items to choose from, one thing I loved was that they serve breakfast all day. After several minutes of going back and forth between menu options I opted for the Bear's Choice and selected sausage links and the sweet cream pancakes. Food came out pretty quickly, and looked appetizing. My meal was just okay, the eggs were cooked perfectly the sausage was flavorful the pancakes were a little dry the syrup definitely helped. My overall impression is that service is great but the food is just okay. read more
