Papa Bear As the crow flies BBD is the closest full service restaurant to home. I try and warm up to the place but I struggle to make it a regular stop. I have always felt breakfasts are on the small side, unless you really order up, like 22 bucks or more but the $17 dollar breakfast always leaves me wanting for more. 2 eggs, some toast or pancake, and sausage or bacon 2 of 1 or 1 of each with that you also get a thin slice of orange, and a 2X4 inch piece of green lettuce. don't get me wrong it was cooked and plated well except I ordered bacon and got 1 of ea bacon and sausage. My buddy got the big bear burger and was completely underwelmed and for 19 bucks it was a smaller beef patty then Mcdonalds coming in at 3.2 ounces Everything tasted just fine and served in about 10 minutes, but it was so average in size and when the cooks get it kind of right how do you complain? you dont, its not that type of place, you just dont go back, or as often. Its not bad but I struggle to find any value. Following my review, the manager of the Menifee location reached out and offered a $40 credit to cover a future visit and replace the meal we were unhappy with. ​While I appreciate the manager taking the time to address the situation and offering to make it right, my wife and I have decided not to return. Between the distance from our home in Perris and the initial experience with the food quality--specifically the stale biscuits and overly salty gravy--we've decided it's best to just move on. ​We'll be sticking to the Moreno Valley location in the future, but I do want to acknowledge that the Menifee management made a professional effort to resolve the issue. read more

Everything we ordered was SO good and totally hit the spot! We ordered the French toast, three link sausages, a spinach omelette, sourdough toast, and hashbrowns and honestly, every single dish was delicious. The omelettes were fluffy and packed with veggies, the hashbrowns were perfectly crispy, and the sausage links were juicy and flavorful. The French toast was soft, warm, and just the right amount of sweet Portions are huge, classic comfort-food style, and perfect for sharing. Prices are very reasonable for the amount of food most breakfast plates are around $12-$18, which is a great value. The restaurant has that cozy, cabin-style diner vibe Black Bear is known for, and it's super family-friendly. Service was friendly and fast, and parking was easy. This restaurant has been around for a few months now. We were coming from our daughters gymnastics class nearby so we decided to stop by. We were able to be seated right away. We ordered our drinks; huckleberry lemonade, coffee and chocolate milk. We ordered an omelette kids pancakes and sides of bacon and another meal. We paid $91 dollars, but it was yummy. We didn't take any leftovers home which is a good sign... it means my two girls ate it up. The restaurant theme was obvious and spot on. It was busy, but the staff were moving quickly and efficiently. Our waitress was paying attention to us because she was checking in on us often. This is our first time eating at Black Bear Diner. Upon entering we waited awhile before anyone seated us. It was 11:00am Tuesday. They weren't very busy. Once seated, it took our waitress quite awhile to come to the table. We asked another lady for coffee. Finally the waitress came by, she wasn't the friendliest. The food was good and big portions, we ordered from the less breakfast menu, and it was a lot of food. The bear claw was $7.99 but so delicious. The service wasn't the best, the waitress came back to the table after we finished eating to ask if we wanted more coffee. I would have given 4 stars if the service was more pleasant. read more

We come during the lesser busy hours and I love getting the Joe's Hobo Omelette and my husband loves the Grizz for the generous portions. Our little loves coloring with the page they give us upon sitting down, while we wait for our food, I love their coffee and my husband enjoys their orange juice. Their staff is very kind and food doesn't take too long to come. The cabin cozy environment is very cute and my daughter loves seeing all the bears around the restaurant. Review for Black Bear Diner - Sun City, CA I woke up wanting to take my family out for breakfast, so we decided on Black Bear Diner. My wife, my two daughters, my son, and I got there around 7:20 a.m. We were seated pretty quickly, and our drinks came about ten minutes later. I was really hungry, so I ordered the Grizz. I asked if I could swap the sausage for a hot link, and they told me it would be an upcharge, which was fine with me. This is where things went downhill. It took close to 45 minutes for our food to come out. When mine finally arrived, there was no hot link--instead, they brought out spicy sausage patties. The eggs were cold, the ham and bacon were cold, and the pancakes tasted stale. Honestly, it was probably the worst breakfast I've ever had, and for a family of five it came out to about $90. They tried to take my meal off the bill to cover up the mistake, but I didn't let them. I'd rather they acknowledge the issue instead of pretending it didn't happen. If you're looking for a disappointing breakfast and management that doesn't seem to care, this is the place. Server was Any (Annie), manager on duty was Nancy. Visit was on 11/25/2025. Cashier:Baqli. Place was busy and the vibe was ok. Hostess walked the long way around to the table. I'm disabled and struggled walking but on I went. We ordered drinks and everyone at the table got their drinks but me. I ordered an orange juice and they brought me a coffee. I asked again for my juice and the waitress could care less. Finally got a lukewarm glass of orange juice and attempted to order. Everyone else ordered and when it was my turn the waitress had a hard time figuring out how to put in sausage, bacon, and a chicken fried steak. She finally figured it out and we conversed and waited for our food. It came out pretty quick but was incomplete. Everyone got their food but me. I only got my 2 sides and was waiting for my chicken fried steak. My brother flagged down the waitress and I asked where my entree was and she went and looked. We stopped by for breakfast about 10 am on a Monday. I was surprised it was as busy as it was, but we were seated immediately. Our server stopped by to take our drink order, but it took quite a while for her to walk by again to get our food order. I offered the build your own breakfast with two eggs (scrambled), bacon and biscuits and gravy. I wish I could say I was happy with the food but I can't. It wasn't the worst I've had, but it wasn't good, either. The eggs were a flat sheet of scrambled eggs, not curds. The bacon was incredibly flabby. It tasted good, but was not even close to crisp. And the biscuits and gravy were disappointing. The biscuits were huge, so there was not nearly enough gravy. I had to ask for more. And this is on me because I thought it would be sausage gravy, but it wasn't. So there wasn't a lot of flavor. It didn't taste bad, but it also wasn't good. Then there was a long wait for the check. I liked my dinner experience here much better than my breakfast experience. Now I know. We'll be back again -- for dinner. read more

Ive always enjoyed the Murrieta location. I decided to go to the Menifee location for the first time today. We received excellent service from Star and from Noah, Who I believe was the manager. They were both very friendly and accommodating. I took my mother who had never experienced Black Bear Diner. My mother can be a little difficult to please but she thoroughly enjoyed her meal. Star gave us great recommendations. My mom ordered breakfast and I ordered The Black Bear Burger. We both ordered the sweet potato fries. She was very pleased. She wanted to taste the hickory bacon and Noah brought her a piece to taste. I thought that was extremely kind. The service and food was so enjoyable that we will definitely be going back. Although it was just our second time here, the host (Juli) as well as the waitress (Kayla) remembered us from our first visit just a little over a month ago . A dear friend who apparently is a regular recommended this place , this person speaks very well of the restaurant and staff. The food again was delicious. Made to perfection. There was no wait time Unfortunately our visit ended with a sour taste. The total bill came to $50 even I provided a $40 gift card which for some Wi-Fi issue after showing funds available did not clear . The host then proceeded to ask for help from the manager (Nicole) . Who with a very unpleasant attitude needed to call her boss and get the OK on what to do. Yes this phone call was made in the check-in area in front of other clients. She then asked Juli to go ahead and clear the bill with the note "Client satisfaction" And commented I am not signing that ***this is all your mess. She then comments ... If the credit does not go through, I am gonna have to pay the $40 staring straight at my son and I. The way this manager spoke to that poor young lady was very disappointing. I asked to please go ahead and charge me the full amount and I will worry about the gift card in the future. She then yells at the host and says don't you dare charge her! Again with a very unpleasant attitude . Needless to say it does not matter how much the bill was..... it was paid for . Unfortunately, the customer service received from the "manager" and the way the staff was treated was disappointing and unprofessional. No manager should speak to anybody like that especially in front of customers. Let alone complain about her having to pay the $40 if the credit didn't go through. For a 10-year-old to comment that the manager didn't have her coffee in the morning should have a lot to say. Just your typical diner breakfast food. Service was alright a tad slow but they were also slammed so I understand. The wait wasn't too bad less than 5 minutes on a Sunday morning for a party of 4. The menu is like a newspaper so it's kind of annoying to flip through and interesting they're in this style and not the typical menu with the plastic. Seems more wasteful. The eggs were perfect over easy and hashbrowns were cooked well. Italian sausage was not that hot it was a low spice level but enjoyable. Biscuit though left me wanting more it's a pretty bland and dry biscuit I asked for butter to try to help it but I only had a few bites. It is a bit loud in here as it's just a large room and so it's a little hard to hear when talking. We discovered this place when we happened to be driving by the area. This place is kind of tucked away before the freeway. The inside aesthetic is pretty cool, loads of bears, hot sauce, and a menu that walks you thru the history of the diner. We were immediately taken care of and the waitress gave us a couple of recommendations including the huckleberry lemonade which was delicious. We also ordered one of the malted shakes which was also flavorful. We ordered fish and chips and the Ruben sandwich for lunch. The fish and chips were cooked perfectly, the Ruben was not bad but very very greasy. The prices were very reasonable (especially considering how bad things are priced lately), and they have tons of specials we're going to come back and check. I always see this restaurant when I'm driving the 215 and I wanted to try it with my family. I haven't eaten at a black bear diner in over 14 years when I was up north near Mt.Shasta. When we walked in I was very happy with the atmosphere and the decor of the place, it was very cozy and welcoming. The service was ok, the food did take awhile to get to us. The food itself was very delicious and the portion size was more than generous, I even had trouble finishing my meal which is not normal for me. My son also ate all of his breakfast which is not normal for him either so he really liked it. Today I took my family a party of 4 to this restaurant. I had never been there before and it was our first time. The restaurant looks very clean and busy. The food was good as well. My server name is Any and was excellent. She checked on us a few times and apologized for the delay on the food. I've been to many restaurants and the timeline for the food to arrive at the table after placing the order is between 12 to 14 minutes. It took over 36 minutes for our food to arrive. This is unacceptable. Other than that the restaurant is very clean as well as the restrooms. The atmosphere is pleasant and family oriented.
