I was really excited to finally try Black Bear Diner since I've always wanted to check it out, but unfortunately my first experience was pretty terrible. I ordered the fish and chips, which are supposed to come with cole slaw and tartar sauce, but both were completely missing from my order. On top of that, I also ordered a Caesar salad--and they forgot the entire thing. I ordered through Postmates, and when I reported the missing item they only refunded me $5, even though the salad cost $7.69 plus tax. If an item is completely missing, the refund should at least cover the full amount that was paid. It's disappointing because this was my first time trying Black Bear Diner and something I had been looking forward to. Instead, multiple items were missing and the refund didn't even cover the full cost of what I didn't receive. Definitely not a great first impression. read more

I went here at the suggestion of my Dad, he always talks about the food and how good it is so I decided to stop by on my recent trip to Las Vegas. This location was 5 minutes away from the field my son had his baseball tournament at. First off, we went at around 10am and the wait was around 30 minutes. There isn't much seating inside and it was crowded so I decided to wait outside. When we got seated I looked at menu and nothing really stood out to me so I just got a waffle with strawberries and an iced coffee. The waffle was good but nothing special. The portions are absolutely massive while not skipping any steps in quality. The must try's are the sweet cream pancakes which are dusted in powdered sugar and are a meal within themselves. Next would be the country fried steak and eggs which is pounded paper thin for an ultra crispy exterior that will leave you wanting seconds. The wait staff are incredibly nice and speedy. The food looked really good. I ordered the chicken fried steak and my daughter ordered the cinnamon roll French toast. Sadly my food wasn't good at all. I tried adding salt, pepper and hot sauce, but none of that helped My daughter said that her French toast was mushy but had good flavor. Tbh I was excited to eat here as I had eaten at a Black Bear in Sacramento and my food was fantastic. It was because of that experience I wanted to try it again. Overall I was very disappointed with my food, and more than likely I won't be returning. On the positive side - portions are large and prices are very reasonable. Weekend breakfast with my parents. We haven't visited BBD in a hot minute and it was early enough that the breakfast crowd was just waking up. When we entered we were seated right away in a booth next to a window, which was great. Our server Judith came over to introduce herself and take our drink orders, hot coffee, iced tea and POG (passion fruit, orange, guava) juice. She gave a few minutes to look over the menu, while doing so it seems the breakfast crowds were massing at the front. When Judith came back with our drinks we placed our food order, open face turkey sandwich with mashed potatoes & gravy for mom, Lite Bites ham and cheese omelet with hash browns and wheat toast for dad, pot roast melt sandwich with fries for me and a short stack of sweet cream pancakes to share, we also ordered 1 biscuit warmed with butter, and side of gravy for the turkey meal. About 10ish minutes later maybe longer, hard to tell with all the bustle of patrons and servers moving, our food arrived, hot and ready to eat. Open face turkey: 8/10 Mom suggests butter and toast the bread before plating, that would've given it an extra touch and she might've eaten more of the bread. Side gravy was warm not hot but still edible. Ham and cheese omelet: 8/10 Ham cubes were on top of a cheese omelet, it was expected the ham to be inside, but good flavor none the less, hash browns were good just a little burnt and toast was toast, lol Sweet cream pancakes: 9/10 Scoring is a personal preference the top cake was a little crispy for my liking but cut that away and it was cooked to perfection on the inside and taste on point . Everything my taste buds were looking for... Pot roast melt: 10/10 Highly recommend, the amount of meat, onion and cheese perfect in every bite. It also comes with au jus for dipping. French fries cooked perfectly, lightly salted. I only at half so I could bring home the rest for later. Judith did also bring us an extra biscuit because it was placed with our order, when we told her we only ordered 1 she said it was okay that we have it. Biscuits were 10/10 freshly baked and warmed. I visited Black Bear Diner with family the day before Father's Day and unfortunately had a pretty disappointing experience with the food. My brother's pancakes were raw inside (see photo). My father's food came out COLD-he is the whole reason we all went out and I was devastated that he was not happy with his very basic breakfast. The meatloaf had shredded carrots in it, which gave it a strange texture and taste...it just wasn't what anyone expected. The chicken and waffles were tough and just a few chicken tenders thrown on top of a big waffle. Overall, the food just wasn't up to par. That said, our waitress was incredibly sweet and attentive, and we knew the issues weren't her fault. The manager tried to be understanding and gave us a discount on the bill. I have been going to blackbear for several years now with my wife. Several times in the past I ordered the avocado French toast. This time on the menu it said it was a new item. I ordered it with a egg on top. It was a single slice of wheat toast with what appears to be a quarter of an avocado. Next to nothing. Very disappointing. It appears that the quality of things just aren't what they used to be. However, the prices are sure much higher than the were. Dollar for the quality and quantity severely lacking. This is my first time visiting this restaurant. We're visiting from out of town and my son suggested we eat here. He wanted to surprise us with the big portion sizes. The portions remind of another eatery, you can easily split a meal and still get full. We ordered fish & chips, meatloaf and chicken pieces. The drinks were also generous. I usually can drink plenty of water but I could barely finish my yummy lemonade. My fish & chips came with 3 ample pieces of fish. By the time I finished eating, my son said it looked like I barely ate anything! My husband and son split their meals but even then they couldn't finish their plates. The sides they selected were the grits (served in a good size bowl), chicken noodle soup and corn muffins. All mighty tasty! We made sure to save room for dessert which was a coconut cream pie and banana cream pie. Again, we were not disappointed! Talk about value and good food! The coffee I ordered came in a medium size mug. Eva, our server, mentioned the freshly brewed coffee came from Nicaragua, a female run company. It was good coffee too! Our server, Eva, was so nice to us. She always had a smile when she came by our table and we even joked about being "a southpaw." We never felt hurried or rushed during our meal. She was attentive to our needs. We came before the crowd but even then, the restaurant wasn't noisy. Plenty of parking too. I would come back to this diner again.
