Oh Marc's. You have been a part of my life for decades, since you were Bernie Shulman's on Cedar…read more Now you are all grown up, a chain of stores that stretches across the region. With food prices low enough to make the slow lines and aisles in disarray worth it, you keep us coming back. Your closeout section is where you really shine. With items no one knew they needed (because they don't) and odd unsalable outcasts from other stores, you are sure to find a 99 cent treasure or two. Who cares if the the undershirts they sell are marked irregular- with Marc's low prices on fiber, you can be sure that even if your shirts aren't regular, that you are. Stop in and stay a while!

WATCH YOUR EXPIRATION DATES! You've always needed to watch…read moreexpiration dates at Marc's, nothing new there. But the amount of expired food being sold and the length of the expirations have had a huge increase recently. Hummus - over a month expired. Yogurt - a few weeks. Bread was one of the things we didn't pay much attention to, until a recent purchase of hamburger buns molded after two days and we realized they were expired by several weeks. So, WATCH THOSE DATES, and shame on Marc's for putting that stuff on the shelves.

First of all, I want to say that this review is for Mentor FRESH Foods, not the former Mentor…read morefamily foods. The new owners are running this place into the ground. It used to be my absolute favorite grocery store. Now it seems like the inventory is extremely limited, the prices are beyond ridiculous, ($7.29 for a bag of rolls?) the produce is terrible, and the staff, well, at least some of the newer staff seem unfriendly and unhelpful. Even the cool 50's music is gone, and no I'm not a senior citizen, I just liked it. I have shopped here for over 25 years and I think I can say I am done. The only thing that has kept me there is that the butcher department, which still seems to be doing a good job. This store could be so much better, because it used to b

I love Costco. The food options are numerous and if you're not great at math, use the calculator for n your phone to see if the bulk options are actually a cost savings. Staples we buy there included laundry and dishwasher soap, vitamins and supplements, and coffee. $5 for a fully cooked rotisserie chicken? Crazy. Walk the aisles, take in some samples and save some money.

quite honestly, i have nothing against Costco. my wife shops there a lot. i stay away when i can…read morebecause that place is terrible for my anxiety. so you ask yourself, "why did you move your prescriptions to their pharmacy?" well, i was honestly tired of CVS' nonstop barrage of text messages trying to get me to sign up for this, that or some other thing. also, i was told i could only get a 90-day refill if i went mail order and, according to my wife (her policy) that had to be through Costco. now imagine my surprise when i find out they are not a mail order pharmacy (Strongsville) and i can't figure out how to get mail order on their website because trying to sign up for MO just leads me in a circle on their website. so here i am, stuck trying going into the store to pick up scripts - and only that. not ideal, but for a while i thought i could deal with it. first time i show up there i ask the lady at the register why the site won't accept my Mastercard HSA card and her answer is "because it's Mastercard." well, thanks for that. somehow, though, my Mastercard HSA works just fine in the store. she couldn't be bothered to ask someone and was just a crabby "you know what." i was happy to see someone else there the next time i showed up - and this time the new lady was friendly as could be. however, that leads me to another issue i've had since moving to Costco. if my refills were up when at CVS, they'd contact my doctor to get refills approved. not Costco. if i'm out, it's not their problem. fair enough. how about if i request a refill and i'm out of refills, you let me know? this has happened at least 2 times now. speaking of "letting me know"... how about you not send me an email reminding me of a waiting prescription only to be closed in the middle of a Wednesday (2pm) when i show up. I understand y'all need to eat, but at 2pm when i'm told it's ideal to show up at Costco to avoid the throngs of people (apparently not true either). so now i have to go back again, waste more gas and try to find a frigging parking space later in the day when the soccer moms are stocking up on chicken nuggets and juice boxes. so that i can pick up one or two scripts. honestly, i should have stayed at CVS - since, and this is the best part, they still have one or two of my prescriptions there because Costco would only let me transfer so many - no matter how many times i tried to repeat the process. to be honest, i'll likely move back to Discount Drug Mart because it's rarely a hassle there. they just do what they do and they do it well. for all Costco's appeal, they suck at being a pharmacy.

The other complaint I have about this place are my fellow shoppers who apparently have more time to waste at the grocery store than I do. It's quite frustrating when they are standing in the middle of the aisles gaping at products. Move. Over. Otherwise, the produce is fresh, the meat selection is great, and their prepared foods are also good. Yes, you will pay a little more than you would at Giant Eagle and you don't get those Fuel Perks but they have a better selection and quality of products.

Although they did bring back the churro for a limited time only. Glad they improved on the recipe because I remember towards the end of it's life it was bad, over cooked and was just dry and crunchy. Now it's soft and chewy and could use a little more crunch on the outside. Sad that it's only here for a limited time only. Also I sometimes wish I could see the reasoning behind why they pull certain items off their catelog or what the determining factors are to keep some items and remove others. Like the bag of ling ling potstickers, seem to be like a staple item and now they are gone. Replaced by a boxes of some other brand and only 30 of them. I felt like the bags were more worth it. I'll still go to Costco for the cheaper gas, samples, bulk buys, and hot foods.

Grocery Outlet is a brand new grocer addition to the Cedar Fairmount neighborhood in Cleveland…read moreHeights. This business occupies the former Dave's Supermarket which was recently renovated. The store is franchise family-owned (now local to the community). This grocery store was a very welcome addition to the neighborhood. It had mixed reviews from the community. My personal option was that it was just alright. I didn't experience anything that would keep me coming back. Layout: Grocery Outlet's layout is a lot more spacious than former Dave's. Specifically, the aisles are less closely spaced. There is sufficient space to roam. With that being said, the organization of the store seemed odd and hard to navigate. For instance, it took me a long time to find condiments (ketchup) which were separated away from the aisles. Assortment: This was my first experience at any Grocery Outlet. It reminded me of a mix of Dollar General and Big Lots. Overall, the following can be found here: meats, produce, breads, beer, snacks, condiments, dairy, toiletries, cleaning supplies, bread, pet food, snacks, and random stuff such as bird houses. If you are loyal to major brands, you'll likely won't find them here. Most are discounted brands many of them also sold at Dollar Tree. Other customers recommended to check expiration dates due to many discounted products being almost expired. I didn't personally see any of these items. The assortment didn't impress me at all. I couldn't buy everything I needed at this store because there were no major brand shampoos, pet foods, and toiletries. Those I've seen in the aisles were even more expensive than the competitors. Meats were mostly unrecognizable brands. Dairy section was extremely limited. Produce looked a little tarnished. Nothing particularly caught my eye in terms of price or quality. My purchase: I initially stopped in for grocery shopping but also to grab something quick for dinner. I didn't find either. The store didn't have any prepared foods or even good frozen selections (most were off brand and contained large quantities). I purchased hot dog meat (off brand), hot dog buns, ketchup (Grocery Outlet brand), small watermelon container (was soggy), and 4 small waters. I paid $20 something. Hot dogs were just okay, cheap tasting. I received a free branded tote which was nice. Overall, I guess that the price was good. Interesting find: The store has global foods aisle. It has foods from Asia and Latin America which is amazing. Savings: Savings are clearly indicated next to many items (our v their price). Marketing collateral in the store indicates savings if you download their app. Service: Service was average. The employees walking the checkout lines seemed apathetic. Lines moved quickly which was nice. Then again the store was almost empty on Sunday night. Parking: Parking lot is available onsite. Entrance is accessible from the parking lot only (unlike the former Dave's). I'm unlikely to become this store's frequent shopper despite living within walking distance. I feel that this store serves value-oriented families buying in bulk and non-committed to national brands. It doesn't well accommodate single people who are looking for quick prep options, small quantities, and high quality. I'll visit other stores in the area that better serve my personal needs.
