Parking at the door; sat immediately; served drinks within 5 minutes, rolls & salads 5 minutes later! Our meals were brought out quickly also. Service is almost always fantastic at BJ's, and last night was no exception. I don't know where they find such great workers, but I sure am glad. As always, the salads are so delightful that I could happily make a meal of one. I particularly love their house made ranch dressing. Salads are always crisp, fresh and delightful! Normally, we have the sirloin steak (Hubby) and the filet (me). The bacon wrapped filet, especially when cooked butterfly style, is absolutely mouthwatering. Unfortunately, I decided to try a small ribeye this time, which was a little bit lacking in flavor. Adding some of their house made steak sauce helped, but I will probably steer away from that in the future. (Pun intended) Hubby had a 10 ounce sirloin, which was an incredible hunk of meat! It was cooked perfectly, tender, & delightful. As usual the little sourdough rolls and the big, generous baked potato were luscious. I've never been able to try one of their desserts, because I'm always full after a meal there. Based on several trips to BJ's, I would immediately give five star rating to them, but because of the ribeye on this trip, I would have to reduce it to 4 1/2. However, because of the fantastic Halloween decorations that were particularly fun and exciting, I'll give them that extra half star back. They are still five stars in our book!

I ordered a hot brown from the favorites menu and it was grossss. Uncooked bacon, smothered in cheap cheese sauce and cheap turkey. It was so sad and I tried a bite but couldn't eat any more. Husband ordered a chicken wrap and it was so hot we went thru 2 cups of water and left half of it because the chicken was chunky and tough. Wouldn't return to spend $34 on a meal that we barely ate.

We eat here often. Everything is consistently good. The steaks and pork chops is my favorite. My husband likes the Buffalo wraps.

If you're looking for horrible service and undercooked steaks, this is your place. No wonder the parking lot was empty.

The ambiance was wonderful for a date...dimly lit, seated off in a corner, and history all around. We were seated quickly and met by the friendliest server we had on this trip. We had the catfish and Cornish hen and both were wonderful! The house made chips that came with the catfish were better than could have been imagined. We wrapped thermal up with house made cheesecake and it didn't disappoint either! I would highly recommend Toogie's if you are in Bardstown!

Hubby's family had been and had emphatically recommended it. This plus the great reviews and awesome looking pictures had us very excited. We started with the country ham hush puppies, the Caesar, and the mac and cheese. The salad and mac and cheese were alright, but we were really trying to mental gymnastics our way into believing that the hush puppies were great. For my entree, nothing was especially calling my name, so I settled on the gnocchi with added chicken. It was a very meh dish, and the chicken seemed like it was just added thoughtlessly, as opposed to pairing with the dish harmoniously. My husband got the catfish, which he said was fine. Aunt got the meatloaf, which was also fine but nothing to write home about either. The real winners were the little cousins who got burgers. These were simple but not bad by any means. The locale is really beautiful and definitely worthy of a special occasion. Love the two levels and the elevated tavern feel. The staff was great and super helpful and friendly. Overall, we likely won't be back, as we feel we can get a comparable experience elsewhere for the price, with likely better food. But go see for yourself! The menu looks like it changes, maybe we came at an off season.

The atmosphere alone is worth the stop -- you can truly feel the history the moment you walk in, from the preserved architecture to the well-kept interior spaces that make the tavern feel both authentic and welcoming. The food is just as impressive. There's a delicious variety on the menu, with something for everyone, and the prices are very reasonable for the quality and portion sizes you get. Everything we tried was fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. One of the highlights is the famous Jesse James Room, which adds a unique historical touch to your visit. Knowing the stories tied to the tavern while you dine really makes the experience stand out from anywhere else. Between the great food, fair prices, friendly service, and the incredible history behind the building, Talbott Tavern delivers on every level. Highly recommend for both locals and visitors looking for a true Bardstown experience!
