BJ's Steakhouse has been a local establishment for decades in Bardstown. The locals love and and it is ALWAYS busy. It is located at the entrance to the Cottage Grove neighborhood, where I live. I would describe it as your typical local establishment that probably gets their food from SYSCO or GFS. The menu is wide, but not deep. Its standard fare food that is good but nothing special. We typically order carry-out as it is easy to go around the corner and get it. I've had several menu items and they are all good, just nothing outstanding. The burgers, ribeye sandwich, and chef salad are pretty good. If you get a salad get the ranch dressing. They make their own. It's a mint green color but don't let that deter you. It's some of the best ranch dressing I've had. Don't pass on this. The steak is about Texas Roadhouse quality or just a notch under, but it is priced accordingly. It's not really seasoned in any way like TRH, which is what drops it a notch. The cod fish sandwich is good and flavorful with a thick cut piece of cod. But its only big enough to take up half of the sandwich. (See picture). It really needs two pieces of fish, or to switch to an oblong bun. I'm a big Hot Brown fan and have had them from many places. The one here is alright. The "special cheese sauce", as it is called on the menu, is ok, but it's not the creamy mornay sauce I see on most Hot Browns. I still order it from time to time if I'm in the mood for a hot brown when we are ordering from there. It's like everything else on the menu - not bad, but not great either. Order accuracy on carry-out orders can be inconsistent. For example, with the fish sandwich I recently ordered I specifically said without lettuce and tomato but said to make sure to include the tartar sauce. I ended up getting lettuce and tomato and no tarter. It's not the first time this kind of thing has happened on our carry-out orders. The atmosphere in the restaurant is nice and inviting. The decor is nice but starting to show its age. The exterior was just cleaned up and refreshed. When we have eaten there we've had varying qualities of service depending on who the server is, but overall I'd say it is good. If you go there with the right expectation that nothing is really going to "wow" you, but that you'll get a decent meal at a fair price, you'll be quite happy with it. read more

First and foremost. If I could give my server, Brent, ten stars, I would. He has been the best server I have ever had. Brent was very attentive, helpful, and knowledgeable about the place. In the time we ate lunch, he probably came to the table 15 times to make sure everything was perfect. Second the atmosphere. The decor was great and the classic rock music was perfect. I absolutely loved the old bottles of whiskey stored in the walls. Last the food. What can I saw but heaven in your mouth. I had a Ribeye Sandwich with Fries and a Mountain Dew. Also I ordered Onion Rings and Fried Pickles. They have this special made Ranch Dressing that I bought a cup of by itself. In short, I HIGHLY recommend BJ's Steakhouse. read more

Lots of menu choices. I had a side salad that was fresh and a decent size. My friend had the same salad and salmon. I ordered theFilet mignon wrapped in bacon which was cooked perfectly and was very lean - but had no bacon. When I pointed this out to Calista W, our server, I thought she'd rectify the situation. Went for son in laws b day. Won't go back. Drive from Shepherdsville. Service was slow, two of us ordered the salmon, so salty, couldn't eat. I had the rib eye. Tasted okay but a bit overcooked. One has a burger, I think McDonald's would have been better, one has salmon Alfredo, I tasted it, it came from a jar. Parking at the door; sat immediately; served drinks within 5 minutes, rolls & salads 5 minutes later! Our meals were brought out quickly also. Service is almost always fantastic at BJ's, and last night was no exception. I don't know where they find such great workers, but I sure am glad. As always, the salads are so delightful that I could happily make a meal of one. I particularly love their house made ranch dressing. Salads are always crisp, fresh and delightful! Normally, we have the sirloin steak (Hubby) and the filet (me). The bacon wrapped filet, especially when cooked butterfly style, is absolutely mouthwatering. Unfortunately, I decided to try a small ribeye this time, which was a little bit lacking in flavor. Adding some of their house made steak sauce helped, but I will probably steer away from that in the future. (Pun intended) Hubby had a 10 ounce sirloin, which was an incredible hunk of meat! It was cooked perfectly, tender, & delightful. As usual the little sourdough rolls and the big, generous baked potato were luscious. I've never been able to try one of their desserts, because I'm always full after a meal there. Based on several trips to BJ's, I would immediately give five star rating to them, but because of the ribeye on this trip, I would have to reduce it to 4 1/2. We ate here twice while I. Bardstown. Once for lunch and once for dinner / both delicious. We had a large group both times and the service was excellent, our waiter was Paul the 2nd time. We had burgers the first time and they were delicious - mine was Swiss cheese and mushroom 1/4 pounder and my husbands was regular cheeseburger with cheddar. Last night we shared a crab salad with sides of Tater tots and onion rings. Then shared a slice of Boubon Pecan Pie. I had half and half sweet tea and regular tea and he had a Bourbon Ale that he really enjoyed. We would definitely recommend. read more

The service was absolutely horrible to start with. When she finally showed up she was in such a hurry to leave I had to grab her twice to finish our drink and appetizer order. When she returned she forgot one of the drinks. Later I asked for rolls that never arrived. Then the appetizer of potato skins came out and was cold in the middle and without flavor. I got the ribeye that was mealy and the fat wasn't rendered. It tasted of pepper and not much else. The wife got the club and the ham must have been country ham because it was extremely salty. Our server Chasity had a big party in the green room and didn't take care of us. We were a 2 person party and according to the manager we talked to weren't worth any service due to the green room party. He made it sound like we were lucky to get any service at all. She took 20 minutes just to get to us for drink order so we decided to order everything at once. She forgot our appetizer and when we reminded her after our salads got there she brought it 2 minutes before our main dish got to us. When she brought steaks out I asked for A1 and she never returned. My wife had to go and track her down to get our check and is when she asked for manager. We went here with a very large party after some softball games. The staff was very accommodating and there was plenty of room for us all to sit together. The waitresses were very methodical and everything was correct. The food was delicious and everyone enjoyed what they got. I would say the steaks, a little more rare than what you may be used to, so order on the more Dunn side if that is a concern. I had the catfish which was fried perfectly and plenty to fill me up. I would return and I would also recommend this place to anyone Have wants to visit a local steakhouse. I ordered a hot brown from the favorites menu and it was grossss. Uncooked bacon, smothered in cheap cheese sauce and cheap turkey. It was so sad and I tried a bite but couldn't eat any more. Husband ordered a chicken wrap and it was so hot we went thru 2 cups of water and left half of it because the chicken was chunky and tough. A wonderful place to eat in Bardstown! My husband and I eat there once a week. Always greeted with a smile! Food is great! We have had everything from steaks, salmon, catfish, or burgers, never disappointed. I am very picky on how my steaks are cooked, always cooked perfectly. Brent has been our server several times, and he does an excellent job! Brent pays attention to the little details. He has waited on us enough times when we are seated in his area he knows exactly what we drink and brings them on the way to take our order. This type of service keeps us coming back! We visit BJ's yearly when we visit the Bourbon Trail. For years, we have enjoyed their food and service. However, when we visited this year, we were sorely disappointed with both the quality of the food and the service. Whatever you do, Do NOT order the fried shrimp. They are pre-breaded frozen shrimp. They are horrible. The clam strips are just as bad. I expect a restaurant like this to use fresh shrimp, breaded in house, not the poor quality pre-breaded mess that they are serving. Our server was adequate but over his head. We had a party of 8 and it seemed to overwhelm him. I am disappointed in how this restaurant has went downhill in the last year. read more

I got the black and blue salad... the lettuce was poor but the steak and seasoning and ranch made up for what the lettuce lacked. Hubs got the catfish and fries and said it was good! I've been to BJ's several times. Some good, some just OK. This last visit was simply OK mainly because they just didn't manage the size of our party very well, despite the fact that we had actually had the party room reserved for 2 weeks. First, for a party of 25, you'd think they'd have staffed it better with more than just one waitress. Second, from the moment of arrival and order to the actual serving time of food was an hour and fifteen minutes. There could have been a little better planning involved in regard to large parties. Otherwise, BJ's is a good restaurant in a limited market of Bardstown's size. Decent to good food, with fairly good service. Just keep your parties below 8. read more

We were greeted by a smiling hostess and were seated immediately. Because this was my first time here, I took a good deal of time to make a decision. Finally, I ordered the Black Angus burger (medium well) with sautéed mushrooms and swiss cheese. The burger came with either curly fries or steak fries. I chose the steak fries. Both burger and fries were ok. I was happy that the medium-well burger was not dry at all. While the fries were not seasoned, they had nice texture. I especially liked that they were not salty. We really wanted to try dessert, but decided against it. We did not want to be stuffed. The service was what one would expect from a down-home, family restaurant: extra friendly and prompt. I didn't like the smell of smoke when I entered the restaurant. While the smoke was not in the restaurant- it came from the adjoining bar & grill- it still made my experience not the greatest because I'm allergic to smoke. :-( read more
