    Fish and chips

So glad to have met Brenda and decided to have eaten here, considering the several choices Main st. has. Shared a delicious fish and chips with my sister and ordered a slice of each of the coconut pie and if I remember the second one was called lemon on lemon?

Visiting Beacon and this was our first stop. Crazy enough as soon as we finished and was waiting for our uber to go back to our hotel..one of the local told us we had to try the food from here! Everything was perfect from the omelette to waffles to burgers and even the meatloaf! The highlight from here are the chicken wings! It was so good we came the next day just for the wings!

Been here on several occasions the protein is always prepared well but sometimes the sides can be a hit or miss. However, today the sites were delicious mac & cheese collard greens and candy yams excellent very busy today for Saturday. Beacon New York was bustling with people and BJ's was bustling with customers. It's always a family oriented atmosphere.

I had an interesting experience here to say the least... so 1 star off for a personal situation that was odd. However, the food was good. Salmon cake a bit dry, the catfish is where it's at.

It's good old-fashioned home cooking done right, hearty portions, and at a reasonable price. Our server was pleasant enough. They're still in Covid mode. Servers wear masks and there's sanitizer by the entrance. No Artisanal ingredients, no fancy descriptions, but when you know your ingredients; and you know your craft; the results are always incomparable and totally satisfying. My fried whiting wasn't greasy, the Mac & cheese was good. No complaints. No "Summer of Love" artwork or fancy fonts on the walls or menu. Read some reviews that said everything is canned or boxed. Whenever you see those U S Foods trucks coming out of a restaurant row what do you think was in the truck? Unless you're going to a high end restaurant; chances are pretty good they went to Restaurant Depot or U S Foods to get their ingredients a lot of it premade. All I want is a satisfying meal, sufficient portions, clean place and decent service.

This place has great soul food for a reasonable price. It is a local black owned business too so that's a major plus! We were first a bit confused about the service set up as it is similar to a pizzeria where you get your own drinks but also get waiter service. But let's get to the tasty food - we got a five wing dinner with coleslaw and yams side as well as bbq ribs as a side. The food takes about 15-20 minutes to come so just be prepared if you have plans after. The wings were fried to perfection -super crispy but juicy. I think most would probably want the food to be more salted but I like my food less salty. The coleslaw and yams were a nice contrast with the brown sugar, vinegar, and mayo to cut the grease from the wings. The bbq ribs were pretty tender, covered with ample bbq sauce but would taste even better if they were in the oven longer to get some caramelization. The service was great and the ambiance is a bit like an old diner. It seems to be a local fav spot as many said hi to the chef. It's great to see a business have that type of relationship with its local customers! Food: 4/5 Service: 4.5/5 Ambiance: 4/5 Price: 5/5

Sausage, eggs, bacon, homefries, toast and a coffee!

Southern charm and food at it's finest... here in the Hudson Valley! The prices were super reasonable and the food was so good that I wish I was a regular. I was meeting a couple of friends here early in the morning on Thursday and walked about 30 minutes from my airbnb. The walk was beautiful and I didn't realize how hungry I was until I walked in. The scent of fresh cornbread, grits, eggs, and coffee permeated the already deliciously fresh air. It took me probably 10 minutes to figure out what I wanted to eat since everything I witnessed coming out of the kitchen looked great. I ended up ordering 3 eggs over-easy, sausage, bacon, and homefries (which comes with a side of toast). I'm pretty sure I spent more time looking over the menu then I did actually eating... seriously. It was that good. I tried a piece of my friends cornbread and it's pretttty up there with some of the best cornbread I've ever had. It was fluffy, moists, and layered with flavor. Oh and I love that the coffee is self-serve too since one of my pet-peeves is under-poured coffee. Even better than the food was the service. True southern hospitality at it's finest. I could so see myself moving up here and making this one of my local go-to spots.

Nursing a hangover is no easy feat, and my susceptibility to this fate seems to increase with age. A hearty, greasy meal is usually a good antidote but I initially led our group to a healthy spot focused on overpriced salad and quiche options. Our group scrunched their noses at the lackluster menu and so I led us to plan B, BJs, and boy oh boy was I glad I did. The restaurant provided flavors, value, and hospitality, which just might be the secret ingredients to get on the road to recovering from the previous night. You're really spoiled for choice at BJ's, because like a good diner you can order breakfast or dinner at any time of day. I ordered 2 scrambled eggs with American cheese and a salmon cake. The salmon cake had a bit too much flour and was the only item we got I wasn't thrilled about. The pancakes we ordered were crisp on the edges and fluffy in the interior, and the home fries my breakfast platter came with were perfectly spiced. I'd skip the mac n cheese, which didn't have enough bite to it, but the corn bread wonderfully toasted and buttery, as our server promised. The coffee here is great and self serve. Ambience wise, the restaurant doesn't seem like it's been updated at all in the 40+ years they've been open, but I think it adds to the charm of the place. On top of that our server was extremely warm and helpful, making me feel right at home. BJ's is a winner.

ORIGIN: Khalliah Murphy (aka Lady K) enjoyed cooking since…read moreshe was a little girl. After completing culinary school, Murphy started a Yonkers-based catering company, and later, in 2016, moved north to open a brick and mortar cafe -- Lady K's Southern Comfort. LOCATION: Lady K's Southern Comfort is located in a small strip mall along Violet Avenue/Route 9G. Ample parking is available. CONCEPT: Lady K's offers quintessential southern comfort food, such as rice with pigeon peas and slow cooked savory collard greens, however tastes of other culinary heritages, such as empanadas, are sprinkled across the menu. Lady K's primarily offers dishes that represent home cooked southern meals -- on site, as take out, or custom catered events. SERVICE: One thing that stands out about Lady K's Southern Comfort is the homey feeling. This extends to the service. During my weekend afternoon visit Khalliah and Shawn Murphy's daughter and son were eagerly helping (Little K and Littlest K). Although customers place their orders at the counter, I was still asked whether I liked what I had chosen. My response brought a proud smile to Little K's face! EXPERIENCE: Plates are available in three sizes, with a protein and two choice of sides. I experienced the small fried chicken with collard greens and macaroni and cheese on the side. Khalliah's family were known for their fried chicken recipe in their Bronx neighborhood, so it comes as no surprise that the chicken was expertly executed -- crisp, non-greasy exterior encasing juicy, moist interior at every bite. Complementing this was the collard greens, in which multiple flavors were married and had just the right amount of vinegary flavor. Next time I will ask for double sides of collard greens -- it's that outstanding! While multiple tables are set up for dining, Lady K's is currently primarily set up for take out. Although photos on Yelp suggest there was plated service in the past, all food is now served in compartmented styrofoam take out containers. This was my only disappointment as I feel household plates and utensils would reflect the homey dishes for those who are looking to dine in. TIPS: Check Lady K's Facebook profile for rare temporary changes in daily hours. Kool Aid is one of the beverage options. I have never seen that before in a menu and I think it's available adds to the homey aspect of the meals prepared at offered at Lady K's Southern Comfort. Kool Aid was a staple in homes in my neighborhood, and the cheerfully colored packets of flavoring powders are rarely found in grocery stores today.

Compared to other bbq in the area, I believe Brothers is a winner. The food quality is great, and techniques of prep and cooking are perfectly mastered. The brisket has a flavorful crust and it breaks apart with a fork. The baked beans have all the right stuff to make them excellent. Baked Mac and cheese is BAKED. The chicken falls off the bone and smoked perfectly. Candied yams are perfect and you can actually taste the butter that you're SUPPOSED to bake into it, (they're the only ones who make it right) in my opinion. We ordered an appetizer of "burnt bacon ends", and so much flavor, and fall apart with a fork. The cocktails were potent, so beware . Did I say enough about the food? Even the service was great. One of the owners even swung by to see if we needed anything. If you haven't already gone, go. It's a nice relaxed atmosphere, and sometimes has live entertainment. You'll love it.
