Baked chicken,Dressing,& greens and cornbread
Schmetta E.

Amazing service and the food is delicious . Clean and very inviting. Costumer service was excellent. I will be coming back

We used BJ's to cater our family gathering at the recommendation of a friend who has used them often. They were wonderful. Every single food item was DELICIOUS: fried and roasted chicken; garlic mashed spuds and gravy; potato salad; green beans; beef ribs; mac and cheese; corn muffins; peach cobbler; chocolate cake. Delivery was on time and the food was hot. Reasonable price and pleasant service. Did I mention that the food was AMAZING?!! Highly recommended.

Ordered door dash and was brought burnt rancid fish. The fish was so rancid the smell of it made my entire family gag. We also ordered chicken that was COVERED in cumin spice. Who covers chicken in cumin?? The cooks are obviously on drugs and do not care about the quality or safety of the food.

The sweet potato are tasty

This the second time I at BJ market it is not the same everytime. The bbq is very tasty. The food is good. Glad they survived the pandemic.

1/4 White Meat Chicken, Sweet Potatoes, Collard Creens
Kimisha L. P.

BJ's Market 1737 E 95th St, Chicago, IL 60617 I ordered a ¼ White Chicken, with 2 sides. First of all, I've ordered a ¼ White several times, from various places and this is waaaaay below the amount for a ¼ White. Google a picture of a ¼ White Roasted Chicken compared to my photo, you'll see what I mean. Also, it looks like someone tore pieces off of a Rotisserie Chicken and placed it in a to go container. Also, look at the color of the Chicken, to me it looks very Gray, and the skin was not crispy at ALL! VERY rubbery GROSS! The collard greens were VERY under seasoned, & the sweet potatoes were CLEARLY out of a can. They FORCE you to buy waaay more sides than what you need or want. Which is CRAZY considering that the size and the Quality of the main entree is NOT properly COOKED & INSANELY SMALL!!! You NEED to do better. If the cooks in your restaurant have Never cooked professionally before, then you need to hire people who have.

Food was delicious, hot and reasonable. I used them for Xmas dinner, also. We had more than enough for four people.

A friend recently sent a post to me from Instagram of a man who came to King's Soul Food Gallery…read moreand got hooked on the pancakes. That post piqued my interest and my appetite. That, of course, meant I had to see if the hype was real. THE HYPE IS REAL. I went early for breakfast. I ordered biscuits with sausage gravy, eggs scrambled with cheddar, and potatoes. On the side, I ordered two pancakes. Everything is cooked to order, which is always plus because you aren't getting something reheated or microwaved. The quality of the food is also an indicator because you can tell by texture and temperature throughout what is on the plate. The cook came to the table to get confirmation of how I wanted my food plated. I gathered that some people are picky about their food touching, so he wanted to know if I was okay that the gravy may touch my eggs and potatoes. Servers, cooks, and chefs usually never confer with diners to inquire about peeves like food touching, so it was a bonus as service goes. On to the pancakes, you really don't need syrup. The pancakes are butter and lightly sweetened. For anyone who has had Johnny cakes, the pancakes are reminiscent of those but without cornmeal. The other thing about the pancakes was that they held heat instead of getting cold immediately. Some people may rattle off how some other place or how their own pancakes are the best in the world. Be that as it may, the pancakes that I had at King's Soul Food Gallery were the best that "I" have had. I will have to make my way back to sample their lunch. There is some fried catfish, collard greens, and sweet potatoes that I want to try. THE HYPE IS REAL.

Although they ostensibly observe Chicago's "mask mandate" I could not help but observe them "enforce" the policy on a potential customer (great to see) while NONE of the staff wore mask! The food was acceptable though not remarkable. The rib eye was tender, a perfectly grilled medium rare, though palatably under seasoned. The green beans and greens were well seasoned and almost perfectly prepared (green beans a bit soft--they'd be perfect if cooked a minute less, but are cooked to order). The meat loaf was tasty but rather pedestrian. The mashed potatoes were a bit bland and not rescued by the gravy which was good. I suspect neither was prepared to order, unlike the steak and vegetable side offerings. The cornbread was also okay--great flavor but not spectacular. I'll return to further explore the menu offerings, but can only offer a 7 out of 10 today. The food is above average, but nothing to write home about.

Sept. 6, 2026 we visited this restaurant, despite the low reviews…read more The food at this restaurant was EXCELLENT. My husband ordered oxtails, Mac & cheese, collard greens--a 10 + he said; I ordered short beef ribs, cabbage & sweet potatoes; it was superb --felt like we were eating at my mom's house. That food was the best soul food I've ever had outside my house or any restaurant! The people were top notch and the service was also a 10. I've shared on my social media platforms--ppl are always looking for good food. We'll be back for sure!

Unfortunately, This Visit Missed the Mark…read more My friends and I decided to give Jordyn's Soul Food Cafe a try, but unfortunately, our experience left quite a bit to be desired. From the beginning, the service was slow and disorganized. We weren't informed of all the available specials before ordering, and even after asking questions, the staff didn't seem particularly knowledgeable about the menu or offerings. It made what should have been a straightforward dining experience unnecessarily frustrating. The atmosphere didn't help matters much either. Our group was squeezed around a table that was far too small to comfortably accommodate everyone, making the dining experience feel cramped. I started with a margarita, but the balance was completely off. Instead of a refreshing, well-mixed cocktail, the tequila flavor was overwhelmingly strong. For my entrée, I ordered the fried catfish with greens and macaroni and cheese. Unfortunately, the entire plate was excessively salty. I love flavorful, well-seasoned soul food, but there's a difference between a dish being seasoned to perfection and one that's overwhelmed by salt. It was so overpowering that I couldn't even finish my meal. What made the experience even more disappointing was that I wasn't the only one who left underwhelmed. Everyone at our table expressed disappointment with their experience, which really says a lot about how the evening went for our group. Overall, between the slow service, lack of menu knowledge, uncomfortable seating, and disappointing food, this visit missed the mark on several fronts. I genuinely wanted to enjoy Jordyn's, but unfortunately, I can't see myself returning.

While the new space is much larger with plenty of booths and tables, bigger doesn't mean better--it lacks the cozy nostalgia of the original spot and feels a bit hollow despite the TVs and updated decor. Baked Chicken: Very tender with solid, decent flavor. Sides: Piping hot, safe, and standard. I was lucky to catch fresh sides straight out of the pan heaters. Unfortunately one of the wings wasn't fully prepped as there were feathers. Expect to spend around $50+ for two dinners. It's on the expensive side, but you get generous portions and save a lot of time when you're craving quick soul food classics. It's a quick, straightforward cafeteria-style setup--point to what you want, get plated, pay, and go. The line servers and cashier were friendly and efficient. Solid, reliable soul food for a quick carryout meal. There's definitely room for improvement in recreating the warmth of the original location, but it's worth stopping by to try for yourself.
