I bought the jerk catfish and jerk chicken plates. The jerk fish was old and hard. Told me I had a 15 min wait for old fish? Made no sense why we waited for any food and all of it was food that had been sitting. The only jerk chicken they had that night was white meat and it was super dry. The greens for both dishes are canned greens so they were barely seasoned and super salty. The only good thing was the yams. Spent 50$ on old ass food. The lady who took my order was cool , but don't waste ya money or time on Dirty Tiffs. I shoulda knew when I saw the mop bucket in the kitchen while they were cooking. A gem in on the south side of Chicago! Randomly came across Dirty Tiff's Cafe while walking around and we are always up for soul or Jamaican food! We were greeted by Tiff herself, just sooo very welcoming, sweet, and provided great recommendations! All entrees come with rice/peas (Jamaican style w/ a sweet/savory sauce( and your choice of two sides. There is something for anyone's tastebuds! I ordered the fried fish; very crispy w/ collared greens and mac and cheese! Other two friends ordered the jerk chicken and fried chicken. Everything was good but I personally don't care for rice and beans that aren't savory! The rice and beans had a sweetness that I didn't care for. The jerk chicken was tender and very good. The food was good, good portion, reasonably priced. The oxtails were tender, the taste wasn't bad at all but there was something missing from what I'm used to but still good. The yams were delicious! Plantain was sweet & soft! The cabbage was so tasty too. The lady that helped me told me that they were still doing last min preparation of the food so it would be about 15 min I got there right when they opened maybe a few minutes after. I had to use the bathroom really badly as I'd driven there all the way from my hotel across town (visiting from Cali) she told me that there was no bathroom and to ask the nails shop next door they looked at me crazy and told me no. So I came back to Dirty Tiff's & she said they had one and I could use it, it was not clean at all but I had to squat and go I had no choice. I imagine maybe that's why she told me to go next door in the first place, because it was not suitable for a customer to use at that time. Other than making that a better accommodation for customers, the experience was good and I'll definitely come again my next visit and try something else and get the yams and cabbage again because it was good. My usual place for jerk chicken on the Northside closed so my husband had the idea to try a place out south. (We live north) Dirtty Tiff's had good reviews so he chose it over a few others. We loved the concept of soul food mixed with Caribbean...two of our favorites. He brought home two jerk chicken dinners with rice and peas, Mac & cheese and cabbage in one and Mac & cheese and greens in the other. The food was excellent!! The chicken was moist inside and not burnt on the ours like a lot of other places. The Mac & cheese was baked which I love, and very tasty. Both the cabbage and greens were flavorful, and the greens were chopped like I like them instead of big clumps of greens. The rice & peas had a nice gravy over them which some described as sweet. It was a bit sweet but we didn't mind that because it was tasty and the rice & peas were not dry. We were thrilled to have leftovers and at around $40 for what we got we were pleased. In looking at the menu they have other dishes that we are looking forward to trying, and considering it's about a 45 minute drive from our house, you know it's good! read more

I ordered from Dirty Tiff's through GrubHub one evening. It was my 1st time trying them, and let me say that I WILL be back! I ordered the fried shrimp dinner and I selected macaroni and cheese and cabbage for my sides. First and foremost, my food was still piping hot when it arrived - loved that! Typically when you order fried shrimp for delivery, the breading is pale and soggy. That was definitely not the case with Dity Tiff's (as you can see from the photo)! The breading on the shrimp was crispy and well-seasoned. The sides were delicious, too. What I didn't realize is that the meal also came with dirty rice...what a pleasant surprise. Called in to pick up red snapper dinner, they told us 30-45 minutes... came in after 45 minutes and the cashier said "oh I forgot" and we had to wait an additional 20 minutes (at least) to get our food. We got charged $45 which is INSANE for frozen fish AND online it said it was $30..... Not only was the portion of the sides small, but the Mac was burnt and everything was SALTY AS HELL. Everything we have had here is good, and we've tried several items. The jerk chicken, meatloaf, jerk catfish, and fried catfish are all delicious. The spaghetti, cabbage, greens, and rice and beans are delicious as well. One of my absolute faves are the fried green tomatoes. My goodness, they are so good. I only wish there was a cool remoulade dipping sauce for them. The customer service is also very good. I have only ordered through uber eats, and anytime they need to clarify something with my order, or they run out of something, they call me to get it right. Ordered via UberEats and for some reason Uber had to cancel the order after waiting almost an hour due to an issue with the driver. I almost didn't order again due to the delay, but I saw a Tik tok a while ago of this place and really wanted to try their Ox Tails so I decided to give it another shot. I'm very glad I did. They didn't have ox tails on the menu unfortunately, but I ordered a Brown Stew Chicken and Fried Chicken Plate and Banana Pudding. First things first, I was shocked by the amount of food that came with this meal, these plates were stacked and everything was delicious. We could probably eat off these two plates for 3 days. Both dinners came with rice and peas and two sides. The Cabbage and Collard Greens were fantastic and seasoned perfectly. Mac and cheese was the best I have had at any restaurant ever. The Garlic mashed potatoes were pretty good, but not my favorite, I think I would rather double up on the other sides or try the yams instead in the future. The Rice was good, it wasn't what I am used to with Rice and Peas as it was a little sweet, but was still very tasty. The Brown Stew Chicken was amazing. The fried chicken was well seasoned and moist, only critique was there was not a lot of crunch. This was probably more due to the time it took to deliver, so I would get it again but only as a dine in option. I haven't even tried the banana pudding bc I'm too full to look at it, but it looks like a winner. This restaurant was much better when it first opened. The past few times my food has been disappointing. Most recently, I ordered a jerk chicken dinner (white) and the chicken was dry and cold. The greens, along with the mac and cheese, were also cold. The greens had a slightly sweet flavor, were full of stems, and tasted like they came from a can. The mac and cheese was bland. I've also gotten catfish a few times and it's usually salty. I found the rice and peas and the jerk sauce too sweet for my liking. Well reading through some reviews and pics, we decided to give it a try. I tell you what, it may not look like much from the outside, the food is the real deal! They are putting their foot in it for real! We got the jerk chicken dinner and the fried catfish dinner. The chicken is good on its own, but that sauce is fire. And the peas and rice was a hit for the both of us with that pepper jelly sauce. The greens were so good and had just enough spice and the Mac and cheese was creamy and cheesy. But I've got to hand it to them with the yams. I have never liked candied yams. But I would buy a side of these anytime! I loved that they weren't overly sweet and were large chunks of sweet potato. The greens are well seasoned with a touch of spiciness. The candied sweets have the flavor you are looking for in them without being drowned in sugar or syrup. The mac & cheese is dish that still has opportunity to be improved upon. It had good browning on top which helped the taste. The peas and rice were SOLID. Tiff, the owner, drove in traffic, through the snow, at 9PM on Valentine's Day to hand-deliver my order after GrubHub dropped the ball with my delivery. This is AFTER she waited over 30 minutes past closing for my driver to arrive. She called me, and I explained the awful parking situation--if you know Hyde Park, then you know the struggle--so she offered to drop it off! Quite literally the best customer service I've experienced with a restaurant. She was kind and understanding the entire time, and exceeded anything I could ever ask from her business. I took the recommendation of a previous reviewer and decided to oder the pot roast AND jerk chicken for my spouse (a safe order). Food was flavourful. Pot roast was delicious. My only regret was after sobering up from my buzz was the cost. Is the cost deal breaker? Nope. Meh. The Yelp reviews are much too generous. I was really excited to check out Dirty Tiff's after seeing all the positive reviews. Unfortunately, my experience left a lot to be desired. I placed a pickup order on the restaurant's website and it was ready within 30 minutes. I ordered the fried catfish and jerk chicken (white) with Mac n Cheese and greens (both meals). Before I could get to the restaurant an employee called to say that they didn't have any dark (chicken) meat. I told her that I'd ordered white meat and it was reflected on my receipt. She disagreed with me and stated I'd have to pay the difference for white meat or the mixed dinner. I didn't argue with the employee as I figured I would show her my receipt when I got to the restaurant. When I arrived there was a female employee at the register. I said hello and told her I was picking up an order. She didn't say one word to me. She just looked at me, put the food in a bag and shoved it across the counter towards me. There was no greeting, no smile or thank you for patronizing the business. That was a huge turnoff. Good customer service is essential IMO because people can always choose to spend their hard earned money elsewhere. This is especially true for a new business... even if I'd liked the food I wouldn't be a repeat customer just because of the poor customer service. She never mentioned the so-called discrepancy regarding my order and didn't ask me for additional money either. The food appeared to be freshly prepared and the portion size was extremely generous. However, it was salty and overall just okay in terms of taste. The catfish and chicken were the best part. The chicken was a bit dry, but the jerk sauce helped a lot. The catfish was good, but the batter they use had an overpowering flavor. It's almost as if they used too much or something. Still my sister and I both agreed that we'd order those items again. The greens and Mac n Cheese left something to be desired. The greens tasted like they came out of a can. They honestly reminded us of the Glory brand greens that are sold at the grocery store. The Mac n Cheese was very cheesy on top, but underneath it seemed to be undercooked. Neither tasted very good either. We both liked the red beans and rice, but not the red sauce that was poured over it. I'm not sure what that was about... we just tired to eat around the sauce. I've visited this place a handful of times. The first few times it was award winning. But I went recently and was highly disappointed, I called in my order, I was told that most of the menu was unavailable so my choices were limited. I got the jerk 1/2 jerk chicken dark. Which I believe should have been 8 pieces of chicken, which when I got home and do opened my food I only got 4 pieces . They gave me 2 legs and 2 thighs which they cut each thigh in half. Very disappointing. The sides were cabbage and rice and peas. They were ok but the rice was undercooked. Not as good as I remember. Maybe a bad day.
