I visited Bixi on Valentine's Day to meet a friend, and unfortunately it turned into one of the worst service experiences I've had. At one point I asked the bartender if I could briefly charge my phone. He told me to come back in 10 minutes because it was busy, which I completely understood. When I returned, instead of helping me, the bartender raised his voice at me in front of the entire bar. It felt unnecessarily aggressive and embarrassing, especially considering I i had done exactly what he asked and waited patiently. No one stepped in to de-escalate the situation, and the whole interaction left me feeling really uncomfortable. The hostess later tried to explain that he might have been "having a bad day," but honestly that's not an excuse to speak to customers that way--especially on a busy night when people are just trying to enjoy themselves. I came here expecting a fun evening out with a friend, but instead left feeling disrespected. I hope management addresses how staff communicate with guests, because no one should be spoken to like that for simply asking to charge their phone. read more

Bixi is one of those places that can shift from 'okay' to 'pretty good' to 'wow this is fun' depending on the night, the crowd, and whatever the moon is doing. I like to pop my head in like I am conducting surprise inspections, and within five seconds I can tell if I want to stay or if I need to quietly float back out the door. The less you go, the more you enjoy it. Too much of anything becomes routine. Let us talk about the music, because this is where things get interesting. There is no DJ. The music comes straight from their sound system, which means the person controlling the playlist has a lot of influence over the room. Some nights they get it right and the vibe is perfect. Other nights it sounds like someone is playing music for themselves and their group chat, assuming everyone else is on the same page. I have had a few moments where I was this close to putting on my own headphones while waiting for a drink. If I have to DJ for myself inside the venue, that means something. LOL. Now, to be fair, some people do not care about the music at all. Some people are there to socialize with their friends, enjoy their drinks, have their conversations, and live their life. So your mileage may vary. You could come on a mellow night, which can be super enjoyable, or you can come on a high energy night that can either be amazing or very 'let me finish this drink and go home.' It all depends on how the vibe, the crowd, and the universe align that evening. The staff is great. There are a few familiar faces I always recognize and they treat me well every time. The bartenders know their craft. When the place is calm, you get your drink fast. When it is crowded, patience is required unless your aura is bright enough for the bartender to see you across the room. Two bartenders make the world better. When everything clicks, Bixi is genuinely a fun place to be. The back area is cool, especially during performances or events. The patio looks inviting, though I have not stepped onto it yet. They also have a small covered outdoor section out front with a few stools, but sitting there feels like waiting for a Lyft, not catching the vibe of the bar. The Happy Hour food is excellent, but it is not meant to feed your entire soul. It is more like bite sized support for your drink. Two or three items work perfectly. I have not tried the full menu yet. At this point, Bixi is part of the neighborhood. It is a social spot, a community builder, and an option that Harlem truly needs. I respect the work that went into building and developing this establishment. I am glad it is around, and I hope it continues to thrive. Would I recommend it? Yes, I would. Just go on a night when your intuition says the playlist might be in your favor. Cheers. read more

I visited Bixi for a weekday dinner with a friend. I had a reservation, though there seemed to be some walk-in tables available. The restaurant was dimly lit with a medium sized dining room and the volume was low so you could hear your conversations. Bixi describes its menu as Pan Asian. I would describe the food as Asian American fusion but not particularly authentic. Not in a bad way, but it feels more Americanized. It seems like their small plates are the most popular, including their sliders, wontons, boas and wings. I had my eye on a few medium plates but they didn't sound as interesting as the appetizers. I wish there was more variety in the proteins. Besides the one salmon dish (and the noodles which you can add protein to), the only protein option really is chicken. It felt a little bit one note. Their restaurant week menu featured a steak dish which looked really good though. I wish it was on their regular menu too. I decided to order the katsu sliders which is apparently a crowd favorite. For $12, the portion was really good and it can make a light meal on its own if you're not too hungry. The service was very good and our waitress was very attentive. Our food came out very quickly. I added on one vegetarian taco from the HH menu to round out my sliders and they brought it out right away which was great. Overall, I thought the food was creative and flavorful. I liked the taste of the mango and chili aioli on my sliders. Their happy hour menu has a nice variety of decently priced items as well which makes this a nice place for an after work meet up. I'm not sure that it'd be on the top of my list of places to return to because I'd like to see more protein options on the main menu but I'm glad I tried it out. read more

A weekend happy hour! This was cute spot but it fills up quickly. We were able to snag a few chairs to add to our table. A nice spot for a catchup and kickback with a group. Updated Review: This place really impressed me at first; I even celebrated my birthday here two years ago and it was my last best experience. That might've been around the time things started to change. Since then, the food quality has noticeably dropped and I ordered the same dishes each time, so the difference is clear. The overall vibe is bland or only meant for some to acquire. I gave it a few tries before deciding this, so it's not based on one off night. We also came for a live singing performance, and unfortunately, that too lacked spark. We do miss seeing our favorite server Ali, but the rest of the team is usually attentive and professional, Ali would go above and beyond to make sure we always had what we needed ( and our bottomless mimosas were truly bottomless at Bixi) As I said in my prior review of Bixi, do NOT go here without getting At LEAST one order of the chicken katsu sliders. After reflecting upon my experience with a recent visit to Bixi, I decided I could only give this place 1 star. Let me set the scene! I was in Harlem and strolled into The Carla Gibson Block Party and boy was it a time. There was a lovely crowd of people who were all talking, laughing, singing, and dancing. It was such a vibe! I enjoyed the variety of entertainment and the headliner Carla Gibson whose performance was hands down my fave! I see why it's her block party and why the crowd was there, then I noticed that Bixi was the sponsoring the event. Upon realizing this, I decided to order some food and drinks from their outdoor setup which included a bar stand and podium to take and provide orders. Each to go meal was about $14. I paid and then went inside yo use the restroom which does not close all the way, so you can see into what's supposed to be a space for privacy. Overall it was pretty decent but could have been cleaner. While in the establishment, I was not greeted and some staff appeared annoyed. I brushed it off but felt this would impact the food and boy was I right. When I received my orders I was shocked and disgusted by the miniature portion - like did I order a kids meal? I told myself maybe the flavor will make up for the portion size and I was far from correct. The shrimp was fried so hard that it ate like overdone chicken. Not to mention it wasn't even cleaned properly, it was not well seasoned, and extremely greasy. I tried a French fry because who can mess up fries ... Bixi can. They were WAY too salty and absorbed so much oil that it would drip if you squeezed it. I tried to lift my spirits with some spirits (lol) at the bar where I was reluctantly greeted by another bothered staff member. When I asked which of the signature drinks she suggested, she seemed unimpressed with each one. I settled with a margarita because, who can mess up a class marg ... say it with me ... Bixi can. The marg was absolutely disgusting and what added insult to injury was when the first card wasn't reading, the girl at the bar said, "Do you have another card because it's not reading. It's not me it's you." WHO TALKS TO CUSTOMERS LIKE THIS AND WHY AM I SPENDING MONEY HERE IF YOU DON'T HAVE BASIC CUSTOMER SERVICE SKILLS!? The overall experience with Bixi was so negative and unsatisfying to say the least, but the saving grace was enjoying the vibes of the Carla Gibson Block Party and connecting with so many nice patrons. I heard her announce that she does weekly shows on Thursdays so I'd likely go just to enjoy her anointed talent, but I'll make sure to eat and drink beforehand. If you haven't already figured it out, the one star is for the block party, not Bixi. read more

We where Wed. December 3rd right after work. The food was very good as well as the service. Great ambiance. The beautiful host I adore her. Service was good too. My issue was the bill. We were charged an evening or late dinner fee. Which is incorrect considering we were there prior to opening and waited in the front. We sat at the bar at exactly 503pm. We left by 710pm. If we had stayed longer or arrived later then I understand but not at opening the door. For future reference please look over your bill. read more

Bixi is small gem in Harlem. The bar/restaurant is small but very cozy. The bartender JB is friendly and accommodating. We went to check out the Happy Hour and we loved our cocktail which were Pale Rider (he made it extra spicy for us) and Martini Lychee (not too sweet... just a perfect sweetness). Not so Happy Hour! My friends and I chose Bixi for our monthly happy hour date. I did all of my usual research... check Yelp for reviews, visit the IG of the business for special events, scope their website for menus and happy hour selections. I did this on a Tuesday for a Thursday meetup set at 5:30pm. My friend arrives before I do then texts me saying it's packed inside and she's waiting to be greeted by someone. She's never greeted and decides to make her way to the bar. The bartender then explains that they're closed for a private event. There wasn't any signage anywhere stating this, no posts on their social media, no statement on their website. A total waste of our time making our way to the establishment. Eastern/Asian inspired menu in dimly lit, earthy colored digs. Dishes are broken into apps/small plates and medium plates, so it's nice to mix and match dishes. There are no large entrees. I had the short rib fried wontons, which were crispy on the outside and full of juicy meat on the inside. I also had the roast duck spring rolls, which weren't bad, but didn't live up to the flavors on the menu (carrot, ginger, scallion, bok choy, sweet chili aioli). For my medium dish I had the udon noodles with chicken. The chicken was forgettable, but the noodles and vegetables were pleasantly spicy. I didn't have dessert, but their pineapple upside down cake, vanilla cheesecake, and gelato all looked delicious. This spot also has bao buns, fried rice, chicken and shrimp based dishes, and a few other basics. The cocktails are inventive and refreshing. I had a couple that were fruity, but not too sweet. They also have some cocktails with a hint of spice. Service was excellent. My server's name was Alex. He was attentive, sociable, made knowledgeable recommendations. This is my son and I favorite go to restaurant after his weekly after school program. Since it's a long day for him he sometimes he tries to run right up Bixi door especially when he hungry. Staff has always been welcoming to us. The outside façade does not do the restaurant justice.  Inside you walk through the bar area to a softly lit sexy red room with velvet couches.  My son loves kicking up and sitting on the couch. Walking out further there is an outdoor area with fireplaces for the winter.   The menu is pan asian. My favorites are the crunchy chicken wings with lemongrass and ponzu sauce. It is accompanied by garlic aioli and a crunchy tempura scallion. I love the crunch crunch of the wings and the scallion!  Another item on my rotation is the pork belly Bánh Mì. My son keeps it simple and loves their fried rice and his refreshing sprite. For drinks I usually get their rosa peligrosa which is a spicy mezcal old fashion. It always makes my happy hour sizzle;) My son enjoys listening to the mix of soul, blues, and rock and roll that plays. read more

I really enjoy Bixi. It's a great spot for Happy hour drinks and bites. It also has a really chill vibe that's great for a night time hang out but can also be romantic. I had several dishes that I enjoyed but i thought that everything was just ok. The rice that came with the salmon was delicious, but the salmon itself lacked flavor. The duck roll egg rolls were good but the sauce they came with didn't seem like the right one. I was expecting a sweet sauce and I got something different. I also was looking forward to taking advantage of the restaurant week deal. However, I decided against it because it actually wasnt that much of a deal at all. I will definitely revisit Bixi, for the vibes and good service but I may just stick to the drinks and small bites- maybe I will try to get the coconut rice too lol read more

Delectable. Delightful. Delicious. Bixi is a superb addition to the Central Harlem dining scene. We really enjoyed the chill vibe and colorful decor. We were seated on the ample back patio that looked out onto the private yard. There was music--at just the right volume to set a mood but still accommodate normal conversational modes. All of this provided for the sense of an intimate neighborhood experience, like hanging on the back porch with family and close friends on a cool summer eve. The service, food, and drinks were exceptional. The fabulous Oumou (sp) was our server, whose professionalism I'd already come to know at Lido (same owner) a couple doors over. Even the bussing staff was friendly! We had the Pale Rider and Mango Margarita for drinks, both of which are fruity and sweet and intoxicating; be sure to balance these with water, which they attentively refill reliably. To eat, we ordered everything on the Happy Hour menu: Japanese Yam Tempura, Pork Belly Banh Mi, Short Rib Sliders. Superb, all of it. The Asian fusion innovations, such as the pickled ginger syrup, are a unique treat for the discerning palate. The variety of fresh veggie toppings and robust-flavored house sauces made the sandwiches stand out from traditional versions we are used to. The sliders were especially good, and we ordered a second round. We look forward to being regulars here! read more

This is a new spot that just opened in Harlem serving pan-Asian food, from the people behind Lido a few doors down. Sadly it was raining so there was no outdoor setup and indoor dining still feels a little scary especially with 3 children that often have no volume control, so we ordered a few things for takeout. Even eating from brown paper boxes on a rainy day in a car out front, everything we tried was exceptionally good. The Chicken Katsu sandwich was excellent, as were the Five Spice Baby Back Ribs and the Rice. I would love to return for some outdoor dining one day to try the rest of the menu. read more

Came here for brunch and it was just ok. The brunch menu online is what attracted us the most since the restaurant is sisters with Lido (one of my favorites in the city!), however the menu on site was very different which was the first disappointment. We opted for the bottomless mimosas - they offer the option of Mango or Orange - and although strong, only the latter was good flavor wise. We got the Chicken Katsu sliders to start which were delicious but the piece of mango definitely threw me off and seemed like an odd combination. We also got the Shrimp Scrambled Eggs which were a bit bland, and the Silver Dollar Pancakes w. Passion Fruit syrup which were our favorites. Overall the food was cheap which is a plus. Service was good and prompt. We also enjoyed the setting which was very cute and intimate, perfect for a date! I noticed that they have an outdoor space in the back so perhaps I'll come back in the summer for that. read more

This place is a WHOLE vibe. I stumbled upon it on my Instagram one day. So sad I've never really noticed the spot because i always just went to Lido. But now, they gnna have to drag me out. First of all the music Really takes us to a different dimension. Even with the music playing the bartenders seem to enjoy it and are super focused on making you them drinks. The drinks were amazing. I recommend the lychee martini. I also love that it is co-owned by a BIPOC. I just want Harlem to be restored to its history. I'm here for the ambience! I haven't tried their food but it's such a great spot, the decor is amazing and makes you feel as though you are at a speakeasy. The red walls with the green and gold tones. Yesss! Walk past the bar, there's a quaint restaurant/eating area. I loved it. The decor is old fashioned, the couches are velvet, it's giving a little glam. Everything was good. My date ordered tandoori chicken, that was okay, I thought it was too dry for me and the rice was too mushy for my liking. I had the tin tiger which is their version of a dark & stormy.. very tasty and good alcohol potency.
