My family & I have lived here for 19 years. We have had our share of neighbors and staffing. I'm writing this review from a personal stance with the leasing office. This past year has brought unforeseen situations to our family & Ms. Cindy (Cynthia) supported me all the way through it! The way I felt walking out of that leasing office after speaking to Ms. Cindy last February speaks volume! Ms. Cindy provided me with some 1:1 time supporting me through some tough feelings. I felt encouraged that I would be ok in my next journey. Ms. Cindy is down to earth, approachable & willing to support all tenants within her scope & if she can't, she will definitely get an answer for you in a timely manner. Nice quiet place to live. My family and I have lived in this community for almost 2 years and we have had such an amazing experience. This is my family's first experience with moving out on our own and we have loved this community. Although the management has changed several times since being here, that hasn't stopped the flow of things. The community is always clean, the pool always sparkles, the maintenance team is responsive, rent is paid through an app, maintenance tickets can also be made through an app at anytime, and we have elevators. The list can go on and on. There are 2 elevators in our community and they are such a huge help when unloading your car from a long day out with the family or grocery shopping. Once you close your windows and door, the noise almost seems like it cancels out the walls are so thick. We are even able to have pets at this community. I absolutely love living here! We searched for so long to find the perfect home for our family and stumbled upon Bixby Knolls Apts on accident. We thought the rent would be far out of our pricing but decided to call just to entertain ourselves. When Cindy answered the phone, she was so warm and welcoming, we knew for sure it would be way too pricey. To our surprise, the cost was much less than what we expected and encountered with previous apartments that sported the word "luxury" in their name. We made an appointment to tour that same day and fell in love with the home! This same day, Cindy helped us with the application process and we were set! Before we knew it, we were getting a call to move in! It was the smoothest process ever! We absolutely adore Cindy and are thankful to her for helping us move into our new home. We've recommended Bixby Knolls Apts to a few family members and friends already! I also wanted to give a warm thank you to Louie and Ronny. They came in and efficiently fixed our dishwasher and before leaving made sure we were good and even fixed our toilet seat in 5 minutes. They are amazing! read more

My family has been here a few years now. Things were a little rough at first and there were some cultural barriers we had to adapt to. However, when new management came in they understood that our home is our safe haven. She understood that when hardworking people get off work they want to come home to peace and no drama. Since we've lived here there have been a couple of managers but our current manager helped keep things nice and clean. She also tended to problems that arose such as parking, and whenever something were broken she was on top of it to notify maintenance and they would respond right away. There is no perfect place however, when management is trying their best is shows. I appreciate all she does and I hope she continues to manage this place a lot longer. read more

We have been here for about six months and are happy we made the move. The property is attractive and well maintained, and the staff has been kind, caring and professional. Our neighbors have been friendly and there is a nice sense of community, with activities like a door decorating contest for Christmas and an Easter egg hunt for the kids. Not safe at all. Reports of stolen cars in the gated parking, stolen credit cards, a car accident on the side street in the course of six months. They don't do anything if your car was stolen despite cctv footage. On top of that, you also have increasing rent every year. Pictures of the complex are edited. It's not luxurious at all. Washers and dryers are broken all the time, roaches in apartments, screaming neighbors at 3 am, broken gym equipment, itchy pool water. I have lived here for 2 1/2 years and there has been multiple changes to the management, with absolutely no improvements. Repairs get fixed half ass and end up continuing to be a reoccurring issue. Despite how hard working the cleaning lady is, people here don't care about keeping up or picking up after themselves. For example, there is dog poo everywhere. For the longest they had the cleaning lady picking it up, mopping it up from the elevators and the staircases. Now they offer a "headhunting" reward for tenants telling on one another : 25$ off of rent if you catch them with proof. What a joke! Next they pick and choose who they enforce their rules on. We were told we couldn't put a bug net on our balcony because it didn't look good. However there are other apartments that are allowed to have a screen. Totally unfair and hypocritical. Next, their grace period for rent is 3 days. I have spoken to the previous managers that I get paid on the 2nd and sometimes it doesn't come in until the 4th. We ALWAYS pay our rent by the 3rd expect when my pay is late and then we pay it by the 4th. Today there was a pay rent or leave notice on our door. Today is October 4th and I PAID the rent yesterday evening. They were quick to take the money out of my account but not quick enough to check for payment before posting this notice (not in an envelope, Just out in the open for everyone to see) on our door. They have broken washing machines and dryers they promise to fix but haven't. Packages get stolen quite often. Cars get broken into quite often. They make repairs to the outside but don't clean up after leaving pieces of broken glass on the pavement where our children and dogs walk. I am not a fan of bad mouthing people or businesses but when you WRONGLY post and pay or leave notice, all out in the open you're telling me you really don't give a shit about your tenants. !!!NEIGHBORS BEWARE!!! **Keep this in mind before renting** In the past 2 weeks I had my car broken into in the bottom covered parking area. I have filed a police report for stolen items and damages to my vehicle. Its interesting how this could happen in an area where tenants only have access. I have informed the main office but we only received notice that it is happening in the Long Beach area. Its happening here!!! In our complex!!! If anyone has any info of suspicious activity like this happening in the past couple of weeks please let me know so that I can pass it on to the police. Additionally there is always suspicious people hanging in the alley and near the complex area by 7/11 at late times during the night. I will be posting this on Google and Yelp for the public. Its incredible that we pay the rent we do and have cameras in the complex and parking lot, yet when i called to inform of this, nothing could be done. I am not pleased as to how this situation was handled. P.S. - For the person who broke in and if they see this. You know who you are and which one is my vehicle. Feel free to approach me so we can chat if you're not a coward. You took my cheap headphones but left $250 Raybans, $100 Shoes and $200 snowchains. Lets cover the CONS first (pun intended because you're conned when you move here)... Rent is high. Over $2000 for a 2 bedroom. That's reasonable IF it was worth it. Small units. Some stuff is ancient and some stuff is new. Door knobs are gold and some are silver- nothing matches. Why? Because if it's not broken, they aren't replacing it- they'll find a quick fix. Ovens are from 1950. They like to caulk everything to fix it. No, how about really fix it?! We always have maintenance requests. All blinds are mix-match. They don't change them so you'll have white and yellow (old) blinds. Just walk the building, look in the windows, and you'll see. Rent increases are $150 to $200/month per rental renewal. Serious TERMITE problem. Someone warned us prior to moving in about the TERMITE problem but we didn't believe them. Welp, our mistake. Parking is okay on some days and horrible on others. Some parking spaces are ridiculously crammed. They send out emails and newsletters with exclamation marks that your kids cannot play and go to the park down the street. Well, ain't that illegal?! Next, they'll say ethnic groups can't hang around and need to walk to the park. Elevators are always out of order with "decor" from 1975. If you wanna move, be prepared to give a 60-day notice. Pay outrageous utility bills because the water and trash, pest control are billed to you and are high. 7-11 next door has addicts and homeless hanging out daily. Pool has EXTREME levels of chlorine. Fire alarm testing EVERY. DARN. MONTH. Is that really necessary?! Washing machines are SMALL and cost $1.75. Dryers are okay at times but one has been out of order for SIX months. Replace the dryer! Dryer costs $1.75 also. PROS: they have Bingo monthly, they clean the premises daily, neighbors are friendly It's not horrible living here, just be prepared for all of the CONS listed above. read more

I stayed at this apartment community building for 3 months period paid higher rent as i was only there for 3 months but this apartment management they are only there to charge you with all the extra charges they can. We cleaned the complete apartment and made sure that everything remains the same way as we got when we moved in but since at the end the leasing office deducted considerable amount of money from our deposit. They are only there to charge money, they have no consideration regarding consumer views, they never raise any exceptions for consumers. All the time what they say is this is our policy and make you keep quite. The leasing officer manager is a rude lady and non considerate. Kindly keep in mind if you plan to move in this complex make sure you are ready to pay alot of money. Very Bad Experience. read more

I'm saving you money and time.....if you have issues with your neighbor and their a nuisance and you complain they will not renew your lease...and the amount they are charging for these apts are ridiculous they will raise your rent $200 dollars more and make it seem like it's a good deal if you renew for a year...no way...I'm paying a mortgage bill over here and the apartments are small hardly no space....run while you can read more

We put a deposit on a 4th (top) floor unit and confirmed by email with Susana in the leasing office. At the time the unit was being fixed and couldn't be shown. A week before our move-in they presented us with a 2nd floor unit and denied ever confirming or having available a 4th floor unit. A toilet installation vendor, hired by the complex, left large scuffs in our entry way. We discussed this with maintenance staff, Louie and Ronnie, but were ultimately charged. The unit had several issues including non-working sockets, stove burners and a minor ant problem that were brought up to the complex but never addressed. The unit had cockroaches when we moved in which the complex did promptly deal with. After our pre-move-out inspection and realizing how much the complex planned to withhold from our deposit we read the California Department of Consumer Affairs' Landlord-Tenant guidelines for "Refunding of Security Deposit". We found that all of the charges shouldn't have been our responsibility except the $110 general cleaning cost. We were charged a separate $97 for carpet cleaning, $50 for blind cleaning and $194 to repaint the unit. During our final move-out inspection I got verbal confirmation from the 3 representatives that the issues with the apartment were not in excess of normal wear and tear, based on the CACDA guidelines. Yet, the charges above were still held from our deposit. Maintenance staff Louie and Ronnie and Assistant Manager Wendy seemed to justify these charges as legitimate as they were [necessary to return the unit to move-in ready condition]. The Department of Consumer Affairs states, "A landlord cannot routinely charge each tenant for cleaning [...] to prepare the unit for the next tenancy. Normal wear and tear includes simple wearing down of carpet and drapes because of normal use or aging, and includes moderate dirt or spotting. Generally, the minor marks or nicks on walls are the landlord's responsibility as normal wear and tear. The security deposit CANNOT be used for conditions resulting from normal wear and tear during your tenancy". When we surrendered our keys the staff handed us a form to sign without explaining what it was. We asked to read the form; it was an agreement to the charges and we refused to sign it. This experience felt, to us, like a business trying to pass its costs to its customers. We strongly recommend against renting here. I stayed in this apt for 4 months, then bought out of the lease which was in the contract, paid $850 deposit, and only received $300 back, left the place in great condition, paid for cleaning, but still they did not pay back any more of the deposit. wrote the head company which is R Selby and Co , they didnt even acknowledge my letter to them. they already have many bad reviews on deposits and law suits against them, do not rent from these people if you want deposits refunded. read more

Just finished touring here and I'm kind of impressed. The property is very clean and there's a pool and jacuzzi on each side of the property. Also laundry facilities on each side as well. There's a gym and even a study lounge. I toured with Lizzy who was really informative and the other two girls in there were pretty funny but professional. I have lived at Bixby Knolls Apts for 5 years and I never have experienced more helpful and professional staff before (and I have lived in many places!). Yes, the building is not new- whose are?! You rarely will find management and staff so responsive. Ashley, the Manager, is one of the most thoughtful and competent people I have had the pleasure to know. Lizzy, also in the office, is professional and responsive. Louie and Ronnie keep things working and upgraded and thanks to Jose, the grounds are kept clean and attractive. Others who join them from time to time are a pleasure as well. All of them are blessed with tremendous senses of humor... an incredible blessing! They go out of their way to do things us during the holidays or just any days... I also enjoy the people who live here; a very diverse group of people who respect each other's privacy which also hard to find! Most are very kind and fun. The community is always clean. The tenants are quiet. You do expect the pool area to be loud during the summertime only. It's not really expensive, its just expensive for what you get. You don't get what you pay for. Amenities: They offer a gym with old equipment, most times broken. The convenient laundry room has super small washers and its approx. $3.50 a load so most of the tenants have to go to the laundry mat next door, and a study room that no one has the key to but the office during business hours. Those things are part of the amenities but they aren't worth it. The did little things like food truck every Wednesdays and community invites for holidays. They shampoo your carpet every time you renew your lease!! The assistant at the leasing office said it was ok to let them in your home when no one is there DO NOT take this advice. The assistant in the front isn't good at follow up or even reaching out when there is an appointment. For example, she gave me a date to get the carpets cleaned, they never showed up but then didn't give me a new date until they were at my front door.. She did the same thing when I needed to have a routine pest control service. They change management and people a lot so you never know who your gonna get. The maintenance staff has always been consistent and pleasant. If you have a pet and with utilities your are going to pay approx. $100 in a addition to your rent. Beware! Be prepared to pay an additional 100.00 per month to Bixby Kolls Apartments AUM-Inc. Water and grounds upkeep. This is above and beyond your rent and utilities. Before you sign a lease ask the management to show you the previous few months other tenants had to pay. You are required to pay more then market rate for a mediocre apartment, your utilities, and ALL of the others costs split between the tenants. Some month, especially in the summer it goes up to 125.00 a month. If this place was new and fabulous it wouldn't be an issue, but broken down laundry machines and broken cars that never get moved or started doesn't do it for most people paying almost 2,0000 a month for a 2bed room.
