Old school in many ways, but not all. Got there about 6 PM last night and no one at the counter. Keys that I could fit on my keychain were left on the counter for me along with a note directing me to my room. Note also said that there would be no TV as their satellite connection was not up and running and that if I wanted to stay somewhere else I could and they would not charge me for the reservation. I think they let it lapse during the winter and then pick it back up during the busy season. Thought about staying somewhere else, but got into the room and found that there were a few channels that were working. Decided I was tired of driving and to suck it up. Right next door to the Lodge is the Key Largo Restaurant & Lounge. It was much more lively than I was expecting for late April. In addition to a full bar and menu, they also have off-sale liquor (except on Sundays - no problem as I came prepared). No ice machine, but they did have bags of ice for sale for 2 bucks. On your honor system. Just leave the money in the jar. Can't imagine this working out too well anywhere near the metro area. Room had a sitting room in front with a fireplace, microwave and couch. Behind that was the bedroom which had a large flat screen TV and fridge. Unfortunately, given my limited options and lack of desire to read anything, I endured a marathon of Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader? At least they knocked ten bucks off of the rate in the morning. Location is right smack dab on the lake. Imagine it being even more pleasant in the summer, but also much more pricey. Doubtful I will ever be in Slayton again, but if I am then I would gladly go back here.
