Every time I come into the pub they're friendly be nice their beer is good they have a pool table they have a jukebox they have other things they have a machine that you can play with one thing isn't bad the volume is nice people are friendly the food is wonderful and I think you should keep up to the board and sometimes they're overstaffed but they get your job done in the food is a little bit late but sometime tonight they get a lot of people but one thing I can tell you you'll never miss out on your credit union buy your food and if it's a little bit much more it's worth the while and it's worth the wait because the food is hot good in the waitresses in the bartenders are wonderful there and they wait on you and they get the job done I will leave there and I would recommend everybody to go there it's a wonderful place for you and a place to play pool and have fun read more

Decent food, HORRIBLE service. I think the place may be run by chimps. We came for dinner around 8:00pm on Saturday, and we were surprised that a place called Varsity Pub in a small college town wasn't completely packed - that should've been a warning to us, but we were very hungry after a long day out exploring a state park. We ordered a steak panino, an 8" pizza, and 2 orders of teriyaki chicken wings. About 20 minutes later, we got a steak panino and an 8" pizza. They were both okay - apparently a panino is a wrap sandwich made from the same cracker crust as the pizza. That's not the panino that I'm familiar with, but it was decent - exactly what we expected. What we didn't expect was a 60 minute wait for chicken wings. The college freshmen at the table next to us ordered teriyaki wings about 10 minutes after us, and somehow they got their order before us - but only by about 5 minutes, meaning theirs took about 45 minutes. Our 2 orders - for our two kids - took longer and amazingly DIDN'T HAVE ANY TERIYAKI SAUCE on them. Yes, after 60 minutes my kids got plain chicken wings. If it had been a busy night, I may have understood a 30 minute wait for chicken wings. But 60 minutes on a night when the place wasn't close to full? Chimps. That's the only explanation I can think of. Well, I can think of a few more, but chimps is the most charitable explanation. There's more (lousy beer selection - basically all generic macrobrews - and NO WAY OF LOCKING THE SMALL UNISEX BATHROOM DOOR) but suffice it to say that we won't be stopping here when we're passing through Marshall again. read more

I have been to the pub multiple times, but when I was here today (9-8-18) and we were on the patio and it was packed. Annie, our server, was one of the best waitresses I've ever had. She was attentive to 8 tables, memorized our (larger) order, didn't forget a single thing, and got the food out quickly (compliments to the kitchen, it was delicious.) I absolutely love the wings here, but the supper time service is rough. I have gone there multiple times and the wait staff seems like they have a lot on their plates so the people eating tend to get forgotten. There have been a couple times that I go and get wings and only get checked up on once or twice the entire meal. I had an empty glass for the whole second half of my wings and anyone who eats those wings knows they're pretty spicy. I have found a way around the issue by ordering at the bar instead and sitting there to eat my wings, but there's not much table space and I feel awkward eating wings in front of all these people crowding the bar. Wish they would either get more staff or improve their table service. Otherwise, the food is delicious. read more

Impressively good pizzas. The panino's are also great and unique. I did the Chicken Alfredo panino this last trip. It's probably the best pre-marathon carb loading a person could do. Unfortunately I wasn't running a marathon the following morning. The atmosphere is 50% sports bar and 50% town bar. They get busy some nights of the week. The Varsity Pub Extra Innings is a fun atmosphere to meet up with friends and chat or when you're looking for some incredible food to enjoy. Panino's are their specialty and with so many options, it isn't hard to find one that you'll love. This last time I ordered the "3 Meat BBQ" which is always full of meat and is of great quantity. The panino comes with chips, fries, or tots as well! With quick, friendly service and great music, it is easy to fall in love with this place! The newly remodeled patio is an added bonus this time of year as we got to play bean bags outside while waiting for our food. Other bonuses include free peanuts, electronic trivia, and the Front Flip application option. I'm already looking forward to my next visit just talking about it! read more

Well this is a bar in a smaller college town, so you have to go into it with that mindset. With that said, the panino's are amazing, chicken parmesan is my personal Favorite. The Varsity Pub has a lot going for it: a great location, fast and friendly service, and a beautiful mural on the outside of the building that is visible in the summers from the outside seating area. That said, my advice is to stick to the pizzas and panninos. After that, the menu becomes sketchy and inconsistent. Case in point. On a recent visit, I ordered a rice bowl with chicken and my wife ordered a taco salad with chicken. The chicken cubes on both dishes were hammered, in other words, cooked to the point where they became hard, leathery, and absolutely dry. Worse, the "rice" in my bowl was a meager portion of what appeared to be Minute Rice - that withered, tasteless reconstituted stuff that only vaguely resembles the real thing. Really? Cooking rice and chicken cubes is about as basic as it gets. We are not chefs, but we cook juicy chicken and fluffy rice at home on a regular basis. It's not difficult. What is more, reconstituted rice is more expensive than ordinary rice. In other words, they are raising their food costs and delivering an inferior product. Nor was this a one-off experience. We have had similar experiences in the past with burgers, salads, and chislic (the cubed meat dish people love in this area): meats cooked dry, dry, dry; very modest portions; and full-scale prices. All in all, I would really like to recommend the Varsity Pub, but in our experience at least, their kitchen often fails on the basics. read more

I waited half an hour for my drink. Then it was another half hour to have my food order taken. The waitress took the orders of at least two tables that got in after me before she took my order. I had to wait well over an hour and a half before I even saw my food. They weren't very busy. Did I wait this long because I was the only Asian there? read more

We are frequent visitors to the pub, in the last 2 months, we have experienced the worst service ever there. Wednesday night we were there for over 25 minutes & didn't get so much as a look. We got up & left. Didn't do any good to tell the on duty manager about it. At least when we were there before the service was crap, the manager was not on duty. Used to be the place to go. The more people I talk to, the more they complain about the service there. Can't complain about the service when there is none!!! read more

Varsity Pub is the best place in town to eat. Whether its for a date, family in town, or lunch at work. My co-workers and I try get there once a week. They have us down to a T and know our order every time. If you have never been there, the Buffalo Chicken Panino is the best and by far my favorite. I have frequented this establishment quite a few times over the past year because a few of my friends like the drink specials and know a few of the employees. I will usually, reluctantly tag along. The biggest problem I have with this place is the customer service. There have been many times that I have been sitting at the bar with cash in my hand waiting for service. I usually just want a tap beer, an appetizer, or a few pull tabs, but the bartenders/servers never seems to be very attentive. It will sometimes take over 15 minutes to get any service at all, even when there are not many patrons at the bar/restaurant. The food is very overrated, in my opinion. They're is their Panino, which is just a knock off of a calzone that is usually very tough and dry. There have been a few times that I ordered their chicken wings and was quite impressed, to say the least. If you're looking for an average college bar with mediocre service and food, this is the place for you. One benefit that Varsity Pub has is it's central location. It is within very centrally located withing downtown Marshall. It is within walking distance of a few very good restaurants, such as Bello Cucina. To summarize, the Varsity Pub is a good location to start the night off with friends in Marshall. However, I would recommend just getting a beer or an appetizer and then moving on. read more

Service is indeed horrible. I have food allergies and asked the waiter if the nachos contained wheat. She came back and said "the cooks do not know." After not having anything that I can eat because their menu is horrible, I ordered a gf pizza from pizza ranch and had it delivered there. After the pizza arrived they told me I can not have that in the restaurant. A great place to eat or have a drink is at the wooden nickle, the TK steak house, or the gambler, avoid the varsity pub. read more

Good food. Terrible service. We waited 20 minutes for a drink. It took only 50 minutes to get our food. This was mid afternoon with plenty of waitresses for all 30 people in the bar. Other groups ordered after us us and received there food before us with more people in there group. Probably not stopping here again. read more
