Great food and service. April was our waitress and she was the best. I ordered the club sandwich and it's is shareable and the best club I have had. The other people at our table ordered the fish sandwich and said is was excellent, very fresh and a huge portion. We also ordered the steak bites they were delicious but you get 4 bites for about $9. Prices fair about $13/a meal. We would eat there again!

Pretty typical bar and grill. Beer menu is limited. Service was good the few times I've been there.

Jr's No. 19 BBQ - Cole slaw riding its styrofoam boat.

Jr's No. 19 BBQ

Bottom Line: Same excellent food & customer service as when…read moreJr's No. 19 BBQ were located at Crosslake American Legion. This is the best BBQ I've found in the lake region of the north woods or anywhere else in the state for that matter. Their U.G.L.Y. Cheesecake Company desserts are not to be missed. Top Line: Dine-in dinner at Jr's "new digs" in the old Brick House Pizza building in Brainerd delivered well smoked meats, tasty sides, and wondrous desserts. Decor is tasteful and a solid step or three above most BBQ or pizza joints. Subdued color palette, spacious seating, and stone fireplace contributed to casual laid-back ambiance. Space was easily quiet enough for casual conversation, since most folks were doing take out orders & not populating the tables or booths. My dining partner had the chopstick chicken salad of romaine lettuce, Mandarin orange sections, tomatoes, walnuts, & chow mein noodles topped with lots of grilled chicken & an Asian dressing. Portion was generous, to say the least. I ordered a smoked brisket plate with a couple sides of choice (baked beans & cole slaw for me), oversized dinner bun, & their great BBQ sauce. Iced sweet tea came with refills. I split the house baked bun to make a brisket sandwich. Owner felt brisket was over cooked (which I didn't detect), so was generous to add a couple bones of their delightful pork ribs as compensation. Special cred for the puffy bun! Very light & tender interior of brioche weight, while having a toothsome texture. But the slightly crusty top and bottom easily handled my heavy handedness with BBQ sauce to keep the sandwich intact, even when drenched with the tangy slightly sweet sauce. Brisket was distinctly smoked & literally fall apart tender. Even the bark on the burnt ends parts of the portion were pliable & toothy (vs dried out & crunchy). There was plenty of brisket for the sandwich & a bit more. Ribs, plus leftover sides, came home for lunch tomorrow. Sides were solid on taste & texture. Cole slaw was crispy & well loaded with somewhat tame dressing. Bowl of beans had bits of smoked meat (brisket?) intermingled with the tasty beans. Portions of both were generous, which seems to be a repeating theme with Jr's. Dessert cheesecake was substantial while the filling had a surprisingly light texture for something with that much heft. The lightness kept it from weighing you down after a full meal. Flavor from my Caramel Chocolate Macchiato cheesecake punched well above its weight & remained impactful to the last bite. The dominant coffee flavor ran strong but didn't overwhelm the chocolate crumb crust completely. Nice balance! Their cookies at 2-for-a-buck are a "steal of the century" contender due to the very low cost for chocolate chip cookies with a butter rich & complex flavor profile that has some unusual notes coming into play. So if you're in the Brainerd area on vacation or attending a BIR event check out the gang at Jr's No. 19 BBQ at the old Brick House Pizza location for some great BBQ and cheesecake. If you're a pizza fiend or in need some baked goods, they may still be your huckleberry du jour.

Brisket plate was a small portion and a little dry. Will not come back…read more Overpriced for what it is and nothing special.

This used to be our family summer vacation spot. Fantastic lake and great beach. So many memories…read moreand pics from childhood. We stayed 3 nights ... and never again. Marty is a nightmare. So many rules. Beds uncomfortable and comforters dirty. Kitchens dirty too. Air conditioner in cabin sounds like heavy machinery. Bathroom showers don't drain. Marty made someone move their truck for being 3 inches off on grass. He walked into our cabin without knocking to plug in a CO2 detector. When we called for the wifi password (which should be in the binder in each cabin) he said "it's the same it's been for several years"... it's over priced, uncomfortable physically and socially, would not recommend to anyone. Too bad the ownership is not familiar w customer service...will try again if under new management.

We were a large family group of 32 people who stayed for the second time here. There are so many…read morewonderful things about Shing Wako Resort such as the very friendly female owner, the close proximity of the cabins to the lake, the nice sandy beach area, and the crystal clear lake. I literally filled a clear water bottle up with lake water and it was complete clean water! The depth of the water is very shallow in that we could almost walk all the way out to the end of the dock in the water and still be touching, which is awesome! Shing Wako provides several adult and kid sized paddle boards, kayaks and life jackets. The cabins are in nice condition with top notch pots and pans, pretty much all utensils you need, etc. Now for the not such a charm: the male owner! He was a miserable human being! Absolutely rude and lacking all adult communication skills. One of the nights the family reunion cabin became extremely hot. We couldn't figure out how or why the air wasn't working. The next morning the male owner told our group that he "pulled the air conditioner to make it stop because someone had opened a window upstairs!" So instead of knocking on the door and letting us know there was a window open, he just pulled the plug! What the heck!?! Who does something like that!?! His verbal communication on several other instances were enough to make me not want to return. If they want Shing Wako to continue being a great place, I'm thinking it's time for him to hang up his boots and not be on the property when guests are around! The other issue is the twin beds upstairs are by far the worst, most uncomfortable bed I have ever had to sleep in! I was counting down the days until I could sleep in my own bed! Please replace them for visitors comfort!!
