I've only had one item from this bakery. I can highly recommend the cinnamon bun. I so appreciate that it wasn't slathered with a big clump of overly sweet frosting. There is a nice glaze on it. My boyfriend has a mild gluten allergy and prefers gluten free food when possible, so I decided to order his birthday cake from Bite Me Kupcakez. His favorite is carrot cake, so I placed an order for one in March by phone more than 3 weeks before his birthday in April and confirmed that I could pick it up on the morning of his birthday. I arrived at the bakery on the morning of his birthday (a Saturday) and gave my name and described my order. I waited a little while for them to get my cake and noticed a lot of the staff gathering around what I thought was the cake that I ordered. There seemed to be some sort of discussion about it and then a staff person brought it over to me to ring it up. I looked at the cake and it didn't look finished to me. It was not iced on the sides and there was no decoration on top aside from "Happy Birthday Eric". Please see the pictures I included with this review which I took as soon as I got home with the cake. Does that look finished to you? I told the girl ringing me up that it didn't look finished to me. Another older woman came over and told me that that's how they do carrot cakes because of the cream cheese frosting and that it doesn't go onto the sides of cakes because it won't stick. This was said with a bit of an attitude, as if I was unreasonable to expect that a $50 birthday cake that I'd ordered several weeks beforehand should look differently. I shook my head. I disagreed completely but it was already his birthday that day and I wasn't going home empty-handed so I paid for the cake and left. My boyfriend said the cake tasted very good (I'm not a fan of carrot cake so I only had a few bites and it seemed fine) and he wasn't bothered by how unfinished it looked. I, however, am incredibly disappointed by this, along with the attitude I got when I asked why it looked unfinished. I have since asked some of my friends who bake a lot if this looked finished to them, and they all said no. One was a bit taken aback since she's been to this bakery before and was surprised at how poorly they did this cake. It may have tasted good to my boyfriend, but I'm never going back here if this is how they prepare a $50 birthday cake ordered weeks ahead of time and then make it seem like I'm demanding when I point out that it looks sloppy and undone. read more

The frosting is so bitter the $60 birthday cake was in the garbage after the ceremonial candle picture. Half the cake was vanilla and the other have chocolate. The chocolate was super bitter as well so this cake stood zero chance. We tried a few other items and with a bunch of her very young kids in the kitchen helping with ingredients and the cash register it was a total mess. Bite me is a gem in the neighborhood, and if you have food allergies and a sweet tooth.. and necessity I first tried BMK when Deb the owner requested my assistance with an issue the building had. Tbh, id not have sought out gluten, dairy, nut free or vegan products. In fact.. ive all but ignored them in any place else thinking 'i dont need that, so why try it?'. First off - the owners are amazing human beings. Absolutely wonderful people. Every aspect of the place has an awesome story from the name, to the color, to how hard they fought to stay a mixed use property to the family literally living there. Its all just a wonderful story. On to the treats. Being GF, DF, NF, vegan is going to 'change the flavors and textures' that were used to. A $10 rack of cupcakes at Walmart made moist by liading it with plastic (yes.. you're reading that right), sugar, artificial crap is cheap, and what we're used to. Heck.. if you're simply throwing cupcakes at 2 year olds I could argue it may make more sense if you dont mind feeding your kids poorly made food (im not exempt.. ive done it). But Bite me Kupcakes isn't $10 trash cupcakes. Its difficult to articulate just how good this place is in a review. But the coffee cake is by a WIDE margin the best Ive ever had, love you mom, you make great coffee cake but Deb's gotcha beat. The vegan brownies are fully cooked, but i think pumpkin to replace egg? is the universe's *perfect* intersection of 'slightly fudgy & undercooked, but holds together when you eat it'. The cupcakes - imagine Willy Wonka was a cupcaketeer, who made healthier versions of cupcakes. Funky, awesome flavors in addition to, and as alternative to just having 8 variations of chocolate and vanilla. Something I noticed - my first experience with GF, NF, DF, vegan.. i ate a large piece of coffee cake. The odd thing was not feeling like a boat afterwards, which as I read is quite common. Despite not being allergic, these things can often cause inflamation which bc weve eaten them all our lives we didnt notice. You notice when its gone! Perhaps the most telling to me was the 'kid test'. My kids were completely uninterested in trying anything here based on the GF, DF, NF, vegan 'its going to taste like cardboard'. Not only do they love it, my 16yo goes here on date nights with her bf and buys brownies and cupcakes on her own.. with her money. All in all, if you're looking for cheaply made products the quality level of Walmart, Bite Me refuses to sell that. Let's face it - you can probably just buy that at a convenience store when you buy gas. If you're looking for much more fun, 'healthier' unhealthy options , and when you want to be bad, not as bad, Bite Me Kupcakes is the place to go. I was visiting Merrimac from Boston on Saturday. I decided to pick up something for Easter Sunday brunch. I found great reviews for cupcakes at Bite Me Kupcakez. I walked in late afternoon to pick up some cupcakes but everything was sold out. The person behind the counter said she only had a carrot cake left. I said ok but never asked for a price as she put it into a box and turned the credit card processor towards me. She said $70.00 as I inserted the card. I was too embarrassed to say forget it. This place is filthy. Want to love it with every ounce of my being, but I can't. Kids were in the back kitchen with no shoes or socks on and their feet were black.. there was filth all over the floors. Loved the options between vegan and gluten free. All of the bakery items looked beautiful; but was missing flavor and texture. Really love the concept- it appears it's a family run business connected to their home. With outside space to sit and enjoy your baked goods. But they need some SERIOUS cleaning and maybe a new flavor recipe for their donuts and cupcakes. Cupcakes were just alright. Staff not friendly and unorganized. I called multiple times through out the month about getting gluten free cupcakes for an event. Staff were going to have someone else call me back but I never got a call. By the time I got in touch with someone else (3 weeks after initial call) I was told I would have needed to have made plans earlier to get cupcakes for an event. It was suggested that I just come in day of and pick from what they have. They had very little traditional flavors and weren't friendly when I asked questions. This review is for customer service. We have never been here but I have been desperately wanting to try it for a while. I'm probably so upset because I was SO excited to try it and was extremely let down. It's hard for me to get out with my toddler during this pandemic but last week we decided to try to go for some cupcakes. Sold out. Busy weekend, no worries. Today we tried to go again and arrived much earlier in the day to avoid them running out. The first two things I asked for were sold out (coffee cake and chocolate cupcakes) So then I asked what was available for donuts. I understand this business must be very very swamped trying to operate only one day a week during this crazy time but maybe this should be expanded to 2 days or more? I was hastily informed that everything had been posted on Facebook that morning (silly me for only looking at their website) and rather than being told a few options that were available (which I would have picked one. I WAS ALREADY IN MY CAR OUTSIDE). I was informed in a very rushed manner of what they DID NOT have. Well that's super great. That really helps me decide what to buy. Thank you. You could have said anything. ANYTHING. We have spinach donuts! And I would have said, "oh interesting, sure, we'll take 6". But instead I've now vowed to maybe try again a year from now, if ever. Having family members with celiacs disease it's been a challenge finding places where one can get donuts and desserts. We've been here twice and both times have received terrible service. The items we have had were OK, but the lack of customer service doesn't make the drive or the price worth it. When we were walking away they took the time to come out and greet us to let us know when their operating hours are and then proceeded to let us sample some of their delicious cookies brownies and cakes. Amazing cupcakes! My boyfriend and I went for breakfast last Saturday. As we were waiting in line to order, we were chatting with a very nice man who was a regular customer. He gave us recommendations about all the menu items he had tried and it was an impressive list. After we finished our breakfast, we ordered two cupcakes to have for dessert with dinner and we bought a loaf of cinnamon bread. We split the cupcakes so we could taste both the lemon I chose and the apple pie that was recommended by our new acquaintance. Both of them were delicious but the apple pie cupcake was particularly spectacular. We will absolutely go back to this gluten free, nut free haven of fantastic treats. read more

I had come here with my children as we were hungry and wanted some lunch. We ordered a few grilled cheese sandwiches and some cupcakes. I am not sure why a grilled cheese sandwich is $7? Especially without chips or a pickle or something. I could understand if it were quality cheese I guess, but it looked like basic deli cheese. I guess that's fine. But all in all those things with some drinks ended up being over $30. It wasn't that good. The tables inside were dirty with crumbs still on them, and the outside tables and chairs has bird poop all over. So we took our food home. I very much appreciate a gluten free bakery. I really enjoyed the cake pops. Given the limited shop hours, I placed a cupcake order for Saturday pickup. I thought the cupcakes were way too sweet. I'm so excited that Bite Me Kupcakez came to town! It's hard to miss the bright pink building when you pass by. Being gluten sensitive, it's hard to find good bakeries around here. I stopped in one day during lunch and it was pretty busy but there was a full case of cupcakes available. Most of the cupcakes are also dairy free and made without eggs. They have quite a few different options for paninis and breakfast sandwiches as well. Even the bread they use is gluten free! I got the bacon maple cupcake, a vanilla pink frosted cupcake, a chocolate chip cookie and a turkey panini with avocado, tomato and cheddar cheese. The cookie was very soft and gooey, but I wish it had more chocolate chips. The cupcakes were awesome. Very flavorful and moist. The panini was nicely made and all ingredients tasted really fresh. Lovely family owned small business! They made a personal wedding cake for my husband and I and a variety of cupcakes for my ceremony that also catered to my vegan family! Came out amazing AND Rebecca was able to match my hard to match Teal PERFECTLY! Love going there even for lunch, their soups are amazing, and don't even get me started on their personal cheesecakes! Though I appreciate the attempt at Gluten Free treats, they have a few areas with room for improvement. The cupcake frosting always has a slimy mouthful like Crisco is used as a base. The cupcakes have a dry texture almost as if they've been previously frozen. Gluten free flour does NOT freeze well after it is baked into a pastry. Their slivers of cake are NOT homemade. They're cut from a store bought frozen cake sold at any local Hannaford. Hopefully improvements can be made. I understand this is a difficult product to make but with what they're charging for baked goods, I'd expect higher quality. read more

Don't go for the sandwiches. I was given the end of the loaf and so it was very small, not what your thinking a $10 sandwich will look like . There was way too much cheese, as much as the turkey, and very bland (no toppings.) It was a panini so I expected the cheese to be melted and it wasn't. The sandwich was half cold and half warm. Everything is amazing, they have an INCREDIBLE daily selection for a small store run mostly by a mother-daughter team. Walking in during quiet times (I'm usually there in the afternoon), you may spy some adorable tots helping gramma, or chat about life with the owners. During busy times, the line moves quickly and efficiently. Everything has been incredible, but my hands-down favorites are the chocolate donut with chocolate glaze and the lemon blueberry cupcake. Today was my first visit since Covid. I was delighted to see how seriously the team took customer and staff safety, with masks, barriers, hand sanitizer, and social distancing tables in the yard. Mostly upside down and sideways. The swirled icing was now smeared all over the inside of the plastic container. They were a mess. I called the shop and never heard back from anyone. My son ordered me a birthday cake that was glutenfree, they did a lovely job decorating it BUT IT WAS VERY HARD TO CUT( I had to stand up and use two hands to cut down into the cake) AND THE Taste WAS Horrible- we called them up to tell them and brought the cake back to them! The cake was a 6 inch cake that cost $60!!!! We were only refunded $30 for a cake that was INEDIBLE. why they felt we should only have half the money back when they got at least 3/4 of the cake back just blows my mind. One excuse that was offered was... The oven sometimes gets up to 425 degrees ! And how is that our fault that you would only give us back half the cost of thatCannolis inedible cake? I personally have made other gluten free cakes that were vegan and no dairy and people could not tell that they were gluten free and vegan! They are not very customer-minded when they made a horrid cake..that's why they are getting yelped!
