    Gnocchi with pesto sauce

Not back for a quick lunch just steps from the Vatican City. The menu is very comprehensive including a huge amount of Italian dishes and pastries. We order a margarita pizza which was pretty good, and gnocchi under a pesto sauce. Very good and friendly personnel. Since the moment we stepped into the restaurant the hostess greeted us and approach the table repeatedly to ensure that we were being attended properly. The room is not that big, but huge windows allow for a feeling of openness. The prices are reasonable. The restaurant has a separate section for gelato and pastries. We tried some of the gelato's options which were very good.

Extremely good pizza very fresh sauce with a crunchy crust with every bite. Very welcoming staff made sure we liked everything we ordered. And didn't mind that we only spoke a little bit of Italian. Very clean bathrooms. The decor was exactly what you would expect eating in a street side Restaurant will absolutely go back

Incredible gelato with Hugh servings and great choices just 2 blocks from St Peters square!

Very expansive for small portions. 12 dollars for a Caesar salad that was 5 bites and also did not taste good. The good thing is it's close to the Vatican.

This casual restaurant is located a couple blocks away from the Vatican and surprises with some delicious plates. We were walking the area with the intent of finding a taxi back to our hotel and saw this place and decided to stop for a bite to eat (and perhaps a glass of wine...or two). There was a sidewalk table available which we pounced on. Our multilingual waiter first took our drink order (a liter of water and a liter of wine) and soon returned to take my lunch order of lasagna. He let me know I wouldn't be disappointed. I wasn't. I admittedly had better elsewhere in Italy but this still topped anything I've ever had in the U.S. It will come as no surprise that I then decided to have dessert and was handed a large dessert menu full of gelato treats. I chose the "After Eight" which consisted of dark chocolate gelato, whipped cream, chocolate chunks (both white and dark), chocolate sauce, strawberries, mint topping and cookies. Our waiter was delighted that I ordered this decadent treat and I received envious stares from nearby tables when it arrived. Or maybe they felt embarrassed for me, a grown man acting like a kid. Regardless, it was even better than it looks or sounds. I loved every bite. Prices were excellent, food was delicious, and service was superb. I highly recommend this place as a casual place to dine.

We stopped at this place after leaving the Vatican tour. We were hot and hungry and this was the perfect spot. Roberto welcomed us in and was very attentive the entire time. We started with big beers for the men, a cocktail for my friend and I had an aperol spritz. For food we started with a couple of their bruschetta trios. The olive bruschetta was my personal favorite, but the fresh tomato and artichoke were also so tasty! The ham and mushroom pizza was a great choice; the crust was nice and crispy and the ingredients so fresh; especially the tomato sauce. The Caesar salad was delicious. Highly recommend this place both for friendly service and delicious food.

We came here from our visit to the Vatican and St. Peter's square. I was drawn in from the delicious smell of the gelato! When walking in, you notice all of the colorful gelato and other treats. I walked up to try a sample and was asked to pay first then being the receipt over. I noticed this is a standard practice around most take away places in Rome. I got the cookies and cream with the chocolate. The small portion is a nice portion. That gelato was so delicious and fluffy! It is hard to describe. I have tried other gelatos where is is more watery than creamy. This seemed more creamy based. I really enjoyed the flavor, and it hit the spot!

Food quality mediocre at best. Service stinks. And they add a service charge for each person. Highly recommend against.

On International Women's Day we stopped here with my parents and our 4-year-old daughter after walking around Trastevere. We ordered espresso for everyone and sat outside. Our daughter had a small tiramisu we bought at another shop a few minutes earlier. Within seconds the owner stormed out and started shouting at us aggressively about the tiramisu. Not explaining. Not asking politely. Just yelling. We tried to explain that we had ordered drinks and were paying customers, but instead of behaving like someone who runs a hospitality business, he escalated the situation into a loud public confrontation. Then his younger partner came out and joined the shouting. Two grown men screaming at a family with a small child in the middle of a tourist street. At that point our 4-year-old daughter started crying because she was scared by the way they were yelling at us. What was the reaction of the owner when he saw a child crying? Did he calm down? Did he apologize? Did he show even basic human decency? No. He kept yelling and demanding we leave. Rome is one of the most welcoming cities in the world and during our entire trip we met wonderful, kind people everywhere. This place was the only exception. If you are a tourist or a family with children, do yourself a favor and choose literally any other café in Trastevere. There are hundreds of them. Hospitality clearly isn't practiced here.

I was disappointed with the bread and cookies we purchased. It's difficult to do everything well. Perhaps narrowing on one specialty is best, but I'm old school. I miss the days of the fruit store, the formaggi shop, the wine merchant, etc. Everyone was lovely at Il Gianfornaio, and reminded me of how my American education was lacking. I can only speak English and a smattering of French. The merchants at Il Gianfornaio spoke English better than me. That was embarrassing.
