Just a few of the amazing gelatos served daily.

This shop was on my list as a must do and thankfully we were able to squeeze it in the last night. Wow. Fresh, natural, artisan and amazing. Service was speedy and with a smile! I had two scoops-pine and pink peppercorn. My husband had pine with wild berries and chocolate bleu cheese. Whether you love funky flavors like us or the great traditional flavors, you will be happy here.

As someone who is not a huge ice cream or gelato fan, this was absolutely delicious! I wish I didn't come here my last day so I could have had more. I can't recommend it enough. My friend in my group said this was her 8th gelato spot and this one was the best. Service is great too!

Food is superb. It is authentic. Gelato service is excellent. They help you with everything and the ambiance is perfect. You go in. You can grab and sit, stay or stand or just take it and go. It's probably the best gelato place in the area

Great gelato shop with many flavors I didn't see in other gelato shops in Rome. Delish!

This place was phenomenal! I got the hazelnut gelato and my husband the tiramisu one, both the small size. We both really liked it, but the hazelnut flavor ultimately won if we had to choose. The woman behind the counter was also so nice in helping us decide. 10/10 would and likely will go back! YUM!

Highly recommend, but be careful not to get confused; there are multiple shops named Günther, but they are no good. This one has delicious gelato, nice service and a cozy atmosphere. No restrooms or amenities so be careful about that.

Amazing gelato! Don't sleep on the mugo pine!! We went back 3-4 times during our time in Rome for more! Best gelato we had!

There are a million gelato spots in Rome so it's hard to know which ones are the best -such a great dilemma to have!! But not all gelato is created equal. I've had good gelato and then there's exceptional. (I don't know if horrible gelato is possible). Punto Gelato is on the exceptional side. One of the secrets is they use microfiltered milk(yea it's a thing) and the unique flavor combinations(cigar flavored gelato anyone??). There are also fruit sorbets available for those looking for non dairy options. I was with a group and we all got different flavors and tried them all. I got two scoops-caramel and hazelnut and they were both such creamy goodness! Punto Gelato has such unique and wonderful flavor combinations it's easy to see how they are on several top 10 lists of Gelaterias in Rome. Delizioso!!

A true gelato staple! We went on a foodie tour and our local tour guide confirmed this is the best place in Rome to enjoy authentic gelato. We loved it so much, we came back two more times before leaving Rome. The Pistachio is incredible, but the fruit flavors are on a different level!! My favorite was peach, it really tasted like I was biting into a juicy peach, no artificial taste. Next, I loved the strawberry, and pineapple.

Dark Chocolate (extra condense), stracciatella (chocolate chip), and Carmel. (Half eaten. Sorry... I just couldn't wait!)

The gelato was good too, though I had better during my brief trip to Rome, and also at a few gelato shops back home. I believe Otaleg is quite popular, but it was empty when we went on a chilly Monday afternoon in November. Service was fast and polite, and we took our gelato to the little piazza nearby, the Piazza di San Calisto. I got three scoops in a cup: hazelnut, pistachio, and the gelato of the day, ricotta cheese with almonds and grapes' reduction. The flavors were good. A nice hazelnut and I liked the slightly salty pistachio--there was another pistachio flavor, too, which was supposed to be sweeter. I didn't totally get the grape in the ricotta cheese flavor, but it was mild and pleasant. My husband got the coffee, which was excellent. I'm willing to allow that I may be used to a different style of gelato, but I wasn't totally sold on Otaleg's texture. It wasn't as lush and creamy as I like, and the ricotta flavor was borderline icy. That said, I inhaled my cup in about five minutes. I wouldn't go out of my way to check out Otaleg, but it's a solid place for a sweet treat while walking around Trastevere.

Your best bet is to get strategically lost down an alley that looks like it might lead to an ancient curse, and sniff out the smallest gelato joint imaginable. Like, if you can spot it without squinting, it's probably too big. Enter: Gelateria Regusto. No signs, no crowd, just a tiny counter and a couple of flavors that look like they were made by someone's Italian grandma who's been perfecting the recipe since the Roman Empire fell. I went rogue with caramel and pistachio, and let me tell you, this was gelato that whispered, not screamed. Creamy, subtle, and suspiciously low on sugar, like it trusted you to taste actual ingredients instead of just corn syrup. The pistachio didn't taste like a candle, and the caramel didn't slap you with sweetness. It was chill. 10/10 would stumble upon again while pretending not to need Google Maps.

Expecting it to be there one year, I walked over to Piazza Navona and Gelateria Navona had evidently closed. I would then get gelato here and there. I then learned that Giolitti is a long standing gelateria and it's also in the historic center. I filed the name away in my head. Then, one day, I happened to walk right in front of it without even looking for it, so I went in. Giolitti is popular and it can be crowded. I'm going to say that I waited about 10 to 15 minutes. You pay at a counter first, deciding on what you want and how much of it, such as scoops and whether it will be in a cup or a cone. Once up at the counter, they don't rush you, which surprised me. I don't take that much time since I don't experiment much, but I still appreciate the courtesy. The price is roughly what everyone else in the historic center is charging. I always opt for the gelato it in a cup so you can "control" the dripping. The gelato - a mix of dark chocolate and two citrus flavors - was "molto buono." That said, just because it's so popular, I'm not going to downgrade Giolitti for it and complain about the crowds. You downgrade gourmet donut places in the U.S. where their fame has gone to their heads. There is also a spacious salon with nicer decor in which you can eat inside. At this point, Giolitti is really the only gelateria in Rome whose name I remember. I would gladly go back and I recommend it.
