Jason from Bison Constructors did a great job on the front of my house that had wood rot. It's a Mid Century modern home that's 60 years old.His bid was very good. He replace all the old wood paneling and added new cladding it's a environmental material that won't rot. He is very detailed in his work. Explain the whole project to me before he started the job. Cleaned up daily before he left. I get lots of compliments from my neighbors on how go it looks. He is a true professional. I will have him back in the future for another project that needs to be fixed. read more

In 2015-2016 Jason (Bison Constructors) completely transformed the exterior of my house. There was severe dry-rot that had destroyed the 2nd floor deck and had eaten into structural beams holding up the 2nd floor bedroom. The board and batten siding was in seriously dilapidated condition. We had several dry-rot experts come to assess the damage. One said we should move out immediately because the house was about to fall down. He said he would charge $80K to repair the damage. Another contractor estimated $100K. Others wouldn't touch the project. We found Bison Constructors online and asked Jason to come out and inspect the damage. He noted that the 2nd floor was actually sagging several inches. He said he would have to remove some of the siding to see how the beams were run before he could give us an estimate. We gave him the go-ahead to remove what he needed to give us the estimate. I thought that was a good sign, that he was the first one to delve deep enough to find out what was going on before throwing out a huge bid. I braced myself waiting for his bid. Finally he sent us back a bid for $12,000. He showed us exactly what he would do, jacking up the second floor, replacing and reinforcing structural vertical beams, replacing horizontal beams on the other side of the house, completely rebuilding a new deck and replacing the rotting board and batten siding all around the house. We really had a sense that Jason knew what he was talking about and that we were in safe hands. The bid was so low compared to what we were expecting that we threw in replacing 2 sliders and 5 windows. That was phase one. I wanted a permanent solution to the board and batten siding that was still vulnerable to rot and needed a thorough paint job. I found a pre-painted composite siding called LP Smartside which is dry-rot and termite resistant and has a 30 year warranty. Jason gave us an estimate to tear off all the old batten and board siding and replace it with the Smartside, install a new chimney, replace 2 doors and 3 more windows. The price was very reasonable and he let me do any painting involved which saved me money. He researched the Smartside product to make sure he was installing it according to the manufacturer's specifications. The end result was stunning as you can see in the before and after pictures. Not only does it look like a new house it is also structurally sound and resistant to dry-rot and termites. Throughout the whole project Jason was the best person to work with. He always listened to what we wanted and worked with us to figure out the best way to do things. He would always keep us informed of what was going on, any possible delays or variations in cost that are inevitable on any big project. He also cooperated well with another contractor that was installing new gutters. He's extremely hard working, dependable and very smart. Also respectful of our privacy, didn't play loud music, etc. always cleaned up. We were really grateful to find Jason and refer him to all of our friends who need work done on their homes. Jason replaced a window for a friend of mine and the result came out fantastic. When the old window was removed the stucco had to be torn out 3 inches around the frame of the window. Jason replaced the window and repaired the stucco so well you can't tell it was repaired. See the picture! My friends are extremely happy with the way it turned out. We all agree that Jason is a true professional in every sense of the word. In a previous review it was mentioned that he was difficult to get a hold of. It has to be remembered that solo contractors don't have a staff to answer the phone and schedule their appointments. They have to do it all themselves which includes advertising, phone calls, ordering and picking up supplies, taking stuff to the dump, doing estimates, writing and sending out bids, bill collection, travel back and forth as well as actually doing the work. It might be that they are up on a roof or a scaffold or operating equipment and they just can't answer the phone. Thanks Jason for the amazing job you did on our house! You're the best! read more

I highly recommend Bison Constructors. We hired Bison for a large project for a Homeowners Association to rebuild all of the stairwells due to termite/water damage. Bison came in much lower than most of the other contractors. All contractors mentioned that if there was additional damage there would be additional costs. This was somewhat concerning because it could essentially become a blank check once the project is started. There did end up being additional repairs needed but Bison has been great and completely fair with the extra costs. He was good with communication, scheduling and completeing the job on time. His work has also been outstanding. He did a really nice job and it turned out better than we hoped. We've since hired him to do several other projects around the building. I would absolutely recommend him for any project and have already done so. read more

We had an absolutely wonderful experience with Bison. We had a support footing that had settled into the ground and they were able to jack up the beam, pour a nice new footing, and put in a new (painted!) support for a great price. Other bids we received did not include any reassembly or painting and had needless add on charges. Trying hard to upload a photo of the amazing deck reconstruct Jason built...but will have to suffice with over the top compliments and recommendation! Jason is a true craftsman, always going the "extra mile". He arrives on schedule and on time and leaves the area clean. As neighbors pass by and admire my finished redwood deck I hear comments about the beautiful, exact work and "you don't find workmanship like that anymore" (much less the worker!) This was a hard job at an old house- where weather and termites had rotted all out and other contractors would not even give a bid. I would not hesitate to hire Bison Constructors again. We're a small 6 unit North Park condominium with an exterior elevated walkway. A couple of the walkway 6x6 support columns and one of the concrete footings had rotted and needed replacing. In addition, there were rain gutters, fencing and active gates attached to the columns. Not only did Bison have the best bid but when he was finished, you could hardly tell he had ever even been there or that there had ever even been a problem. Clear down down to the matching touch up paint. He told us exactly what the process would be (and why) and the project went very smoothly with no surprises. I contacted Bison Constructors via their website that I found through the BBB. I did not receive a phone call nor email for better than a week. We are in the process of finding a contractor to replace our deck. This is not going to be a small job by the very nature of its location. I finally called a week later to follow up and only got through to a voicemail system. I did, as most people do, left a message detailing information for the scope of my project. I then received an email from an individual who did not begin his email Thanking me for our interest in his company. His email came, instead of a telephone call to establish that very first communication with his company. It read: Hi: Please Include as many details about your deck, and what you're looking to achieve. The size, the type of materials you want to use? Is it a second story deck? Property location? J***** C***** I thought it rude to respond to my request with this email communication, He was looking for us to do his job as an Estimator. When I'm ready to hire a contractor to IMPROVE our HOME, I would like to meet the individual representing his company. I would have appreciated his imput as a professional in his industry. I decided to not respond to his email because it really did not reflect well on him nor his company. When he realized there was no response, he called me. He initially prefaced his line of questioning by telling me that he wanted to talk to me on the phone as opposed to a personal visit because he was "Busy, and didn't want to waste his time nor mine". (I took this to mean that he didn't want to meet me if my budget wasn't large enough for him) Poor guy is too busy to personally meet his clients, to sit down with them to determine how best to meet their needs? Really? I played along knowing that the call probably wasn't going to end well. I did my best to explain our needs, not being a contractor, I guessed how big the deck is and then I tried to answer the questions he posed regarding potential materials I might want. Here's the best part.... He asked me what I wanted to spend! Considering that I'm not a deck builder, how do I know what "I want to spend" to build a deck! I, like many people don't want to spend a ton of money, however, we are happy to part with our hard earned income with the knowledge we are hiring a professional who cares as much about our home as he does for his own. At this point in our telephone conversation, I'm feeling frustrated and a little angry. So I throw out what I think is a reasonable number and this "professional" LAUGHS at me and informs me that one of the materials I desired would cost more than my whole "budget". Then I say to him, "well that just crushed my dreams of having a new deck built", followed by "thanks anyway". The point of this whole exercise in futility was to solidify my initial sense that this particular individual wanted me to do his job; to measure the deck, to explain its position in relation to my home and to select the best materials to complete the job. My family, in large, works in an industry that requires meeting with homeowners, listening to their needs and going over their ideas on how to achieve their goals. More often than not, we (professionals in OUR industry) find that much of our time is spent educating our clients and after doing so, presenting solutions which will get their wishes met while saving them money. Is it out of the question to expect the same time and respect from individuals in their trade? I Like to write about good experiences with people who have gone over and above in customer satisfaction. Unfortunately, I'm really disappointed in this company and their representative. I'm still awestruck that he flat out told me he was too busy to make the trip to my home, and that he didn't want to waste his time or mine? REALLY?
