We live in La Mesa and pass this place often so when we were ready to paint/re-stucco our house we gave them a call. When I called to make an appointment I was asked if both homeowners would be present because apparently Rhino Shield will pay Advanced Exteriors for the estimate if we were both there. I said yes, but one of us might have to leave real quick during the estimate to go pick up our kids from school. The lady on the phone said 'no problem' so we booked our appointment for 4:00 pm. The gentleman who showed up for the quote (I missed his name and he didn't give us a business card so we will call him "Dick") was about 15 minutes late to the appointment. He walked around our house with us and then had us sit down with a ridiculous binder full of outdated reviews, BBB comments, contractor licensing documents, and other information for us to review. We then had to watch a DVD of Dick explaining the Rhino Shield process and he again went over what was in the binder during the DVD presentation. Let me some up both the ridiculous binder and DVD for you: We are the best. Every other house painter sucks. Around 5:15 pm my husband told Dick he had to leave to pick up the kids real quick but that I was still home. He became agitated and asked when my husband would be back. My husband said about 20 minutes. Dick then came into our house, grabbed his ridiculous binder and DVD, and asked if he could come back at 6:00 pm. I said sure, I apologized for the inconvenience and told him the lady I made the appointment with said one of us leaving real quick would be okay. Dick never showed up at 6:00 pm. We have not heard from Dick or Advanced Exteriors since then. Not one follow up. We had just refinanced our house and have the money to invest in Rhino Shield as we really believe in the product but I don't feel like we were taken very seriously by Dick. Maybe because we are a younger couple with young kids as most of their clients are over 50? We didn't need this hard sale, we just needed a quote. I wish there was another company in San Diego that could apply Rhino Shield because we were really turned off by this experience with Advanced Exteriors. I brought a home and Advanced Exteriors painted the house in 2020. Its less than 3 years and there are a few hairlines cracks and water leak through the wall. I called Martin to come out and take a look to see what he could do for us since it's not that long ago since he worked on the house. He was so arrogant and disrespectful. He informed me that the paint is only warranty for 25 years under these conditions: blistering, chipping, and peeling. I was super disappointed in his response and I would definitely not use this company again. He thinks he knows it all but came to my house super unprepared and didn't want to do anything. I had to provide him with the tools to show him that the hairlines cracks are the reason for the leak. I don't think they did a good job using the Rhino Shield Paints to paint my home. On top of that, their warranty is false advertisement because it's not protected for 25 years. I would look for another company. read more

Multiple people, to include myself, have shared their discourse with your quote process and you have confirmed multiple times how you present your business. I was never rude to the older man that came to my house. I feel I must explain what happened on the phone when I made the appointment: I was asked if my wife would be present. It was never explained that my wife **must** be there as a state law requirement... As stated before, the man explained that he would not do the quote without both homeowners and that I was made aware of this. I feel there is a difference between being asked if someone is going to be there and a **requirement** for someone to be there... semantics. When my wife had to leave suddenly and unplanned, the advanced exteriors employee very plainly said he couldn't do the quote and I very plainly told him I would go get his stuff for him. I asked if he was sure that this was the stance he wanted to take? I also made him aware that my wife allows me to make the decisions for home repairs and it's OK (I would fill her in later). Your employee showed that he was very set in his ways. I went inside to get his binder and he left. This would be the 5 minutes we spent together. No one was ever rude. Not him, not me. There was a misunderstanding from the beginning about the "state law" requiring both homeowners to be present (LOL). I would hardly say anyone was rude. I mean, a child not getting their own way may think this was a rude encounter, but adults would see this as "things didn't work out". While I am here clearing up lies about my character... I would like to shed some light to advanced exteriors and their character. Specifically with some of the 5 star reviews on Yelp. I find it fishy that a few of them do not have personal photos, have an extremely small amount of reviews (some only have advanced exteriors as their only review), and they are often left on the same day that Advanced Exteriors has responded to a negative post... such as mine. No one can see a time stamp of when this business has replied, but it's October 3rd today and yesterday they replied to my original review. Take a look at the post by Ryan A (left Oct 2nd) and Marshall G.... Very peculiar. I would have to guess the true star rating for this company is probably in the mid to low 3 range. In the past 13 months, A lot of people are not happy with work performed or how they issue quotes. I am definitely not happy that anyone said I was rude in anyway. I just asked the Owner of the company get off my property because of how he talked to me and the time mis-management. Let me explain that the owner of the house I live in (for 20 years) asked me to get estimates and they will go with whomever I chose. This review is long over due and is really more about their customer service. A few months back I had Advanced Exteriors repair my home. The work, once completed was good work. However, as I've stated this is customer service based. My home was ready for the next stages when everything went to a halt. I didn't see anyone or get any phone calls on the reason for the job not being completed. I called and spoke with Melissa (I believe that was her name) and she assured me that all was well but my project manager was ill and they would keep in touch. After almost 3 weeks with no calls and no one returning my calls, my project manager shows up one day with a big smile and dyed hair. Later in the day, my wife finds out from the painter... he went on a Alaskan cruise. Wow! The audacity. We had our house treated with Rhino Shield about a month ago. We originally contracted to have it done nearly 8 months ago but because of several factors including a death in the family, repair of termite damage and other issues we had to keep postponing. Martin and his employees were always available when needed and always understanding and accommodating when we had to postpone once again. Martin even answered his cell phone and gave us the information that we needed on a Sunday when the office was closed. Once the job was scheduled, Mario and Miguel did an outstanding job, going over the entire house grinding, sanding and smoothing rough spots, driving in loose nails, patching bad spots in the stucco, and making sure the house was properly prepped. If they had a question about anything, they didn't just assume, they consulted with us and even fixed a couple of small things that they didn't have to. The masking of window and doors was very precise and I only found one spot high up under an eave that was very simple to take care of. They did have to re-do some of the masking because the storms but no complaints. Late on the day that they sprayed the primer, a rainstorm was approaching. Our color coat was still being mixed, so they rolled on a coat of an almost-matching color just to protect the sticky primer and keep blown leave etc. from sticking to it. Then it rained nearly every day for a week, delaying them from working. When the rain was over, they went back to work and finished the job in about 3 days. We are absolutely thrilled with the look and the workmanship. The hardest part of the entire process was choosing the color. They were very accommodating and helpful in the process. Looks like they get 5-star reviews and are likely doing quite well, so who needs me, huh? Beware, as the middle class diminishes and the retired baby boomers hold on to their money, companies like Advanced Exteriors will eventually disappear, making the feel-good warranty they tout invalid. Lifetime (or 25 year) warranties are often bogus anyway...the supplier will always come up with reasons why something YOU did or didn't do is the reason the product has failed, which invalidates the warranty. FACT: Hardly anyone ever reads the fine print in a multi-page warranty--and they know it. Finally, speaking from multiple bad experiences, just recognize that home remodel contractors--in general--are a nefarious bunch that promise the world and then debate with you everything you automatically expected to happen...once they start. Don't sign a vague contract; define every little point in precise wording, and do some research beforehand to know what they might try to skip or gloss over. read more

My first dealings with the company came telephonically with the very polite young ladies making the appointments. Very professional over all and were able to answer all of my initial questions. On the day of the appointment, I received a call approximately 45 minutes before the appointment time. Martin, the owner of Advanced Exteriors, called to say they would be unable to make the appt today, and asked if he could reschedule. Well....you know how that goes, there is not enough time in the day and rescheduling anything is difficult. After a little discussion over the semantics of it all, he stated he would come to my residence himself and we will keep the same appointment time. I appreciated the gesture and didn't expect it. So bonus points for that one. Upon Martin's arrival to my home, he measured the residence and gave me a video and a large folder to look through while he was outside. The video, short but informative, discussed the process. The folder was filled with recommendation letters from previous customers and other positive commercial material. Martin and I spoke for about two hours and he explained the process and was able to answer all my questions professionally and thoroughly. We talked pros and cons and he was very honest about everything, which I appreciated it. He even gave me his personal cell phone number to call with questions. I haven't decided on whether or not I'm going with Rhino yet (yes, the financial commitment is significantly higher than a standard paint job!!) ...but I can say Martin was very informative, professional, and able to answer all my questions. We talked everything from the chemical process of the product to the BBB and Contractors licensing board. If I choose to have the process done, I'm sure I will be happy and satisfied for many years. This has been far more durable than house paint would be and we are very satisfied with their work and service. When the work was done, they described exactly what they were going to do in terms of clearing next to the house, how long the process would be, and then promised to clean up. All of this was done and done to our satisfaction. Not only has the coating been very durable but, where some minor issues did pop up, Advanced Exteriors has been very responsive.
