WAS a Crispy Shawarma Cheesesteak (Chicken)

The crispy chicken cheesesteak shawarma was that good that it didn't even make it for me to take a picture. Will definitely be coming back again

Being cheap on meat , cheese , and no type of toppings at all.

Dude , don't believe anything on the internet. today i found out it's all bs. Shawarma bread burnt , the tablet they have don't even have the same options as the one the customers use. they was being hella cheap, there was like literally maybe 2 pc of meat on there. I lifted 1 nacho and all this hardened cheese was stuck to it. Under that was basically straight chips no type of anything on it. I got none of the toppings i ordered in my sandwich, no diced tomatoes, like 3 pcs of fries in the whole thing and the meat was hard. Basically threw 42$ in the trash very disappointing. -------------- Edited ------------------- My stomach hurts.

Stopped in here on a Friday early evening for dinner. You order at the counter and then they call you when your order is ready. I thought the prices were very good for the portions you got. I enjoyed a hummus bowl that had veggies in it and falafel. I got a meal so i picked a salad and a bottle of water to go with it. There was so much food! My boyfriend liked his dinner as well! The restaurant looked fairly new. Nicely decorated and clean. I will be back for another hummus bowl!

Stopped in here twice for recent lunches. On-street parking was easily found right up front. The staff was much livelier on my second visit. First time it didn't seem like anyone wanted to be bothered. Second time, I had smiles and at least a thank you! The inside was not crowded, but there were people coming in for take out and a few other diners besides myself. The table situation is spread out pretty good and there is Arabic music playing softly in the dining area. I'd call ahead if you're in a rush. The wait was about ten minutes on both trips. I went with Shawarma both times, the first was chicken second was a mix of lamb and beef. It is a big portion so I went sans fries on the second trip. The Saj bread was huge, but thin and fresh and it kept the wraps together extremely well. The meat was finely cut up and lightly seasoned. Both wraps included cucumber, tomato, tahini/garlic sauce and a side of shatta hot sauce (think red chili sauce). I thought both wraps were good, but a tad too heavy on the tahini sauce. Nothing bad, nothing great. Might have to go Kabab over rice and have some hummus on a future visit and report back. Prices were decent overall.

Food was delicious! Fries were very crispy and the wraps were properly seasoned. We really enjoyed what we ordered & would definitely go back! After satisfying your salty craving, you can head over next door to Le Souk for a sweet treat. My only qualm with the place is that I had to wait quite a while for this order, despite the restaurant being empty. Will be returning!

I'm not that well versed in Middle Eastern cuisine but I have had The Halal Guys before so I kind of had an idea of what I would be getting at Bisho's. My co worker happens to love Chicken Shawarma so she ordered this from Bisho's and shared some with me. It was very good and the portion was huge. I placed an order of my own a few days later. I went with the Beef/Lamb Rice Bowl and got the recommended toppings except onions. These toppings included tomato, cucumber, lettuce and some kind of pickled vegetable I could not identify. All of this was topped with a Tahini sauce and I think it was this sauce that ruined the dish for me. I should have done some homework or asked for the sauce on the side. I guess I thought because it was white it would be akin to the Halal Guys famous white sauce but it was not that at all. It tasted sour to me and unappealing. Because they give a generous portion I shared the rest with my mom. I also don't think I like lamb and beef mixed together either. I would definitely try them again but I would stick with the chicken and whatever sauce comes with that. I also got the babagnooj and understood that it was eggplant which I like baked in the oven so I thought this would not be bad. It wasn't bad but I was not prepared for the amount of garlic. So much so that I could not eat any more of it for my lunch because I feared having to speak to customers with that on my breath. This was the type of garlic saturation that gets in your pores.

    Chicken Kabab Salad Bowl
    Becca S.

Bishos used to be one of my favorites but, not anymore. I've ordered the chicken kabab salad bowl pretty frequently for two years with pickles, cucumbers, turnip and cabbage. Tonight it came with drastically less lettuce (typically comes with about 3 cups of lettuce, tonight was 1/2 cup) 3 pickles, no cucumbers, and a few turnips. I called to find out what happened and was offered no remedy. They just said they ran out of cucumbers and these are the amounts the managers want them to use. I don't know if there if there has been a change in management recently but, unfortunately I will no longer be eating here and I would advise you do the same.

Chicken Shawarma, over rice with falafel, baba ghanoush, and a side of tahini
    Rich B.

Bishos continues to provide excellent food at a reasonable cost. I've tried all the vegetarian dishes, and they're all great! The hummus is rich, and creamy . The baba ghanoush is redolent with garlic and olive oil, as opposed to be heavily laden with tahini. The foul is very flavorful and packed with protein. The cheese, Za'atar bread is kind of like a Middle Eastern quesadilla containing cheese, and za'atar seasoning on their delicious saj bread. I prefer the chicken kebab to the chicken Shawarma. The kebab is well seasoned and the grilling gives it extra flavor. All their entrées are available as a wrap, over rice, as a hoagie, or on a salad. You get to choose six additional toppings. I love the toum(garlic sauce) & amba(sweet curry sauce) and then add four more vegetables. My only issue with that is they don't really give you enough toppings. The falafel is very well seasoned but a little dry. Strangely, it's not available in a pita, but you can get it as a wrap or anything else mentioned above. The food is always impeccably fresh & is halal. Customer service(especially the dark haired girl with the glasses) is outstanding! If you order direct from their website you will receive either five dollar off or 10% off coupons pretty frequently. I usually get it to go, but there is seating available inside. Be sure to check out their Le Souk market for desserts and all types of Middle Eastern spices grains, snacks, etc. review of that to follow.

I knew I could only enjoy a little knibble of each of the delicious salads that were initial placed on the table. I think I ate all the twice-cooked eggplant. It was so good! The hummus is honestly the best I've ever had, and the laffa bread is such a yummy accompaniment. I had to stop myself from eating too much! I tried the Phyllo-wrapped Haloumi. It was ok, but I liked my dad's Freekeh Arancini better. The Pomegranate Lamb Shoulder is the reason I had to pace myself. This is also one of my favorite lamb dishes that I've ever had. The greens are a nice accomaniment. I didn't care for the crispy rice, and it was the only thing I didn't like. I got the Pecan Konafe for dessert and it was like an exotic pecan pie. Love this! The honey ice cream was so refreshing after a big meal. I left very happy.

The second I knew I was visiting Philly, I set a reminder on my phone to vie for a reservation. We got a 9:30pm reservation, which was late for my usual dining habits but absolutely no question worth the extra few hours to build up and appetite and anticipate going to such a renowned restaurant. We were met with a beautiful dining room and kind, passionate people at Zahav, especially our bartenders, who made our experience a true EVENT, describing each dish to us even as we were making decisions on the tasting menu, and vouching for the fact that we MUST try the halloumi, which ended up being my favorite dish! Wow, the care that is put into the craft of this food is unreal. Zahav is a true celebration of cuisine. We started with the laffa bread being served straight out of the fire with accompaniments which were absolute flavor bombs, especially the eggplant and pickled cabbage. The bread was warm, soft, and so flavorful in itself but made even better by the hummus-tehina, which was perhaps the smoothest I've ever had. The Pomegranate Lamb Shoulder fell right off the bone, and the Amba-braised Greens and Crispy Persian Rice were side dishes that felt like main events in themselves -- the crispiness of the rice perfectly complemented the pomegranate sauce of the lamb. This was the perfect celebration dinner, and Zahav quickly made it to the top of my list of places that live up to their hype and go above and beyond in the kindness realm.

Almyra - I happened to walk by it a few weeks ago, I didn't know it was there. I thought, 'looks very nice, I'll have to try it'. The restaurant, which features 'modern Greek' is part of the Estia Group, which includes 7 restaurants - 3 of which are in Philly (Estia and Pietro's are the other two). I went for dinner this evening on a Wednesday, and there was a good crowd - the restaurant is quite large, and it's decorated beautifully. I started with three of the Spreads - Smoked Eggplant, Beet, and Hummus. It was wonderful trying these 3 - I spread them on the pita and crispy rice crackers - and tried them separately - spoonful by spoonful, to really taste the differences. The Edamame Hummus has a unique flavor and texture with tahini and garlic. The Beet features roasted beets blended with labneh and garlic and topped with pistachio and feta. The Smoked Eggplant with peppers and balsamic rounds out the 3 with a deep, smoky flavor and a soft, smooth texture. I always look for 'classic' Spanakopita these days, but rarely find it. The dish at Almyra was labeled 'Spanakopita Manti' - I asked my server, what that was. She said it was a favorite of hers, a fried 'flower shaped' pastry filled with blended spinach and feta, served with tzatziki and leeks. I ordered them and they were heavenly - lightly battered, crispy fried 'flowers', with a creamy spinach center, that tasted exactly like spanakopita should. I dipped every bite in the creamy tzatziki and thoroughly enjoyed the appetizer! While pork is the most popular meat in Greece, lamb is a dish served on special occasions and holidays. I 'discovered' lamb in Greece, as I hadn't ordered it that often when I would go out to eat....specifically the lamb chop. Almyra has a great lamb chop! It's seared on the grill - and I do mean seared - the deep char definitely adds to the flavor. The 3 large chops are Australian lamb, herb marinated for days highlighting the flavor of the meat. They are seasoned with sea salt, cracked pepper and olive oil for a tender finish. I like my meat pink inside - not red or rare. Cooking lamb chops medium to medium well is no small feat, yet the meat was cooked exactly the way I liked. They were tender and very juicy. These chops may have been some of the thickest I've had - and I made the 'mistake' of trying to eat them with a fork and knife. Wrong! If you order chops, you 'MUST PICK THEM UP' and eat them! What a difference!! The meat just came right off the bone and it enhanced both the texture and flavor! I'm not sure why eating them off the bone was so different, but I can't emphasize it enough - and, it's a lot more fun! Part of the treat when you order ribs are the 'layered potato fries' you get with them! These aren't your ordinary fries, in fact, they're really not fries - they are little potato masterpieces! The fries are prepared by thinly slicing potatoes and layering them to create a multi layered texture that rocks! They are truly a savory, rich side dish to the lamb chops! After such an epic dinner, I had to order dessert, and the Olive Oil cake immediately caught my eye. It was a two layered cake with a creamy custard like center and a citrus orange topping. It was light and moist, accompanied by a scoop of vanilla gelato resting on a bed of ground pistachio nuts! It was delicious and a wonderful ending to a great meal!
