I am rather disappointed with this company. I really want to hire their service since it is highly rated in yelp and online, other customers singing praises about their work. Naturally I want to ask quotes so I would know how much I would pay for a tree removal. But one big problem, for a supposedly 24-7 business described on their webpage, they have answering service who by far only takes message and no one returns a call AT ALL. I have called 3 times and left message twice. This does not leave a good impression to me as a reliable business. I am definitely not a valued costumer. Looking at their photos and reading the descriptions on their webpages, about their business and business supposedly operating since 1978 is utterly fictitious on my end. If they are fully booked, they could at least have the courtesy to call back or even tell their answering service they are holding off their booking. read more

If you are in need of tree cutting (including stump-grinding) or heavy pruning services, I can give a hearty recommendation to our Las Gaviotas neighbor, Steve Bishop and Bishop's Tree Service. I used Steve's company for the second time ever today. They cut down two large gum trees, ground the stumps, and then did HEAVY pruning on probably seven more trees in my back yard. To my pleasant surprise, Bishop's team took no more than 3 1/2 hours to do all of this, including cutting, chipping, hauling, and IMMACULATE clean-up. To be honest, I got exactly what I paid for in quantity, but the speed of the work, the care they took in removing unwanted live and dead branches from the trees, and the attention to detail in clean-up exceeded my expectations. This was an easy transaction, from estimate through clean-up, which contributed mightily to my decision to take the time to post this voluntary referral. Frankly, I am elated with this job. The only evidence that they were here is all the sunshine that I could once again see entering my back yard, and the evidence of precision fresh cuts on the trees. They came out to remove a big branch that had been damaged in a storm, and were polite, quick, and got the job done faster than I would have thought. I gave a review back in 8/2020. So, when I needed some work done, I called Bishops. I am so disappointed. Th owner came out and gave me quote in early September. while the price was high, my husband told him to put us on the schedule. He told us it would be 5 weeks. We understood. I called a few days later to confirm our appt. (I left a message with no call back). It is now mid-November with no communication. So after 10 weeks we rented a dumpster and will do the work ourselves. The dumpster is coming on Friday. Today (Wed), a Bishop employee popped by the house to tell us they would be here on Friday! We told them to never mind since we have the dumpster coming. So frustrating. read more

Bishops removed a 65' very dead tree for us last week. The tree was in a difficult location right against our deck and among other trees we didn't want damaged. The guys did an excellent job. They landed the branches and trunk sections with precision. We had no damage of any sort. We also had limbs trimmed on other trees. Where do I start? I called 2 other companies including Bishops for quotes to remove a pine tree from my front yard. Jimmy came by when I was at work and left a quote on my door on 11/13. I called him on 11/15 and told him I accepted the quote and to remove the tree. He said him and his crew would be at my house "next week or the week after". I received a phone call from Jimmy the day he showed up at my house to cut the tree down. NO prior warning. But, my house cameras notified me. I was at work. I missed the call. I called him back, no answer, I left a message. He called me back about 2 hours later and then proceeded to tell me that he did not include hauling off the wood chips in his price, yet the ticket clearly stated Grind stump and haul off ALL trash. He also said they would return to complete the removal on Monday or Tuesday the following week. They removed all of the branches except 2 and the main trunk. When I got home from work I looked at the videos of them taking down the pine tree, I noticed that they knocked my gutter off the corner of my house. They put it back up, but I went outside and looked and there was a hole in the middle of the gutter section where it was bent. Jimmy never told me this. I spoke to him after this happened. Right now it is 7PM on Tuesday 11/26 and still have not received a phone call as to why they were not here to remove the rest of the pine tree. I can say that I am very disappointed in the service for the amount of money they charged me to remove this tree. I will definitely find another company for any other services I need. read more

Then after that good experience we had Steve and Co come out to remove three HUGE tree stumps and trim a branch off our 250 year old oak tree; a similarly excellent experience. These guys are phenomenal! They're like ninjas. They are in and out of your yard expeditiously and leave little to no trace of their being there. I have used them 3 times over the last 5 years. I have a Crepe Myrtle which they performed a crown cut on. It was amazing. It looked as if my myrtle should be on a movie set. Additionally, they gave my Bradford Pears a much needed "hair cut." This has been essential in giving those trees extended life. Further, it allows for them to be able to support their own growth. Developers love Bradford Pears because they grow rather fast and have a beautiful bloom. Unfortunately they have a lot of upright growing branches and they're not very strong. The growth of the upright branches adds weight to the individual supportive branches making them susceptible to breaking. By getting the "haircut", they get to start over this growth pattern every few years, ensuring sturdier branches, and in my case, no breakage. I would have never known this if it wasn't for simple conversation with my favorite arborist. If you need a tree trim, don't look any further than Bishops Tree Service. They're insured, knowledgable, and family priced. Sure you can find someone in the neighborhood to trim your trees for $75, but let that amateur injure himself on your lawn. That $75 could turn into a rather large lawsuit. read more

Other places were trying to upsell me on the phone before I had even made an appointment and were charging a lot to just come look at it. Steve came out and gave us an honest appraisal of our tree (it's okay!) and told us what we needed to do to make sure it stayed healthy. He didn't charge a cent and didn't try to sell me a thing.
