The chicken is the only meat I've tried so I'll only comment on that meat: it was okay. I've tried it 3 times and had a different experience every time. I have never tried their sides because they don't look appetizing to me. I like baked macaroni and cheese and theirs always looks watery/soupy to me. The veggies always lack color - meaning they're overcooked, so I pass on those. Other people love them but I grew up in SC and we always had good fresh veggies so I'm picky on that. When I want good fried chicken I go to Prince's but since this is the closest it closes the craving. Overall not a bad restaurant, customer service is fair enough. read more

Yummy meat and three in the busy Cool Springs area of Franklin. Simple process- get in line- read chalkboard for meats and veggies selections. Pick what you want and enjoy the good home cooking. Our party had fried chicken, meatloaf, fish and hush puppies- each entree was delicious. I personally enjoyed a vegetable plate- Lima beans (perfect); Mac and cheese ( good but a little too soupy for my taste); Cole Slaw (delicious) and squash casserole (best I have had in a while); Cornbread. Everything we ate tasted great. We had a quick vacation in Nashville and stay near this place. We had been looking for something different to eat so we gave them a try. The food choices are great the sides are awesome and the banana pudding was to die for. They are a cafeteria style where you grab a tray and choose your meat and sides. I had the chicken fried chicken mac n cheese and green beans plus jalapeno bread. The food was tastey. My wife had the meatloaf and she said it was great also. Wanna hear a secret? You can get the same great hot chicken that is served at Hattie B's here! We stopped in for a little lunch. I'd had this place bookmarked for the longest time. I always went somewhere else because I figured this place only did chicken on the bone. I don't eat meat off the bone. It's not a religious thing, I'm just -that- lazy. We stopped in on a Saturday, around 2pm. The place was pretty busy, but we were able to get our food and find a seat. I saw they served Hattie B's chicken (INCLUDING CHICKEN TENDERS!) and I was elated. I ordered the 3 tenders hot, with a side of squash casserole, lima beans, jalapeño corn bread and bread pudding for dessert. A lotta food. I'm not sure of the price, as the recipe only has the whole total, but for two of those and one soft drink it was $24ish. What I really enjoyed most about the meal was the chicken. I would actually say I like the sides better at Hattie B's, they've got some great mac and cheese there and love the fries. The sides here were okay. I kicked myself after I ordered for getting lima beans, they were okay, but if you're had them from a can, thats pretty much how they tasted. The cornbread was a little dry. The squash casserole was more soup than casserole. I loved the bread pudding, but it's incredibly sweet. What I liked was I was able to stop in and get some great hot chicken and not have to wait 45 minutes to an hour in line like at Hattie B's. read more

Bishop's is my comfort food place to eat when I'm in the Nashville area. My favorite meat is their fried chicken. I always wish that I had bought a second roll. I'm normally not a big dessert fan but on my last visit I purchased a whole chocolate pie to bring home! Service has always been good. Absolute fantastic Southern food and true southern hospitality. The employees will hold a conversation with you and treat you like a friend. The food is incredible. The fried chicken is a must but the Hot Chicken is my personal favorite. The sides are all great but you've got to try the fried okra and the collard greens! Do your self a favor and get some dessert, the pies are perfect but the banana pudding is the best around! If you're in the area, swing by and enjoy some real southern cooking. read more

Not a fan. The breading on the fried food was ridiculously thick. The sides had no flavor, tasted liked they were out of a can.

We ordered the family meal that came with 4 chickens 2 sides, 4 bread and a gallon of sweet tea. Although the food is good, the chicken felt like it was a bit salty for my taste and the greens was lacking in salt I guess it balanced it out. The cornbread and jalapeños bread were on the dry side. I think the original plan was to do Sunday brunch at J. Christopher's, but there was already a 45-minute wait by 10:30am. The Yelp app said Bishop's was across the street and ready to open, so we took a chance. Sometimes, it's good to take a chance. Classic Southern meat & three, and pour some more of that wacky sweet tea. Incidentally, Austinites get excited over fried chicken - they just opened a Gus's here - but apparently y'all in Nashville have it everywhere and can take it for granted. I actually did the grilled tilapia to feel semi-healthy, and what I thought were sweet potatoes may have been Bishop's carrot soufflé specialty - whatever it was, it was great. I'm not the biggest fan of styrofoam or cafeteria-style service, but it's no big deal. I'll take quick & clean & cheap & good anytime - a win-win combo no matter where you're from. One of our FAVORITE restaurants. Being a die-hard Hattie B's fan, how do you say no to hot chicken without the 2 hour line out the door and the additional hour-hour and a half commute when you don't have to be down town?! Exactly, you don't. You go to Bishop's! And enjoy Hattie B's hot chicken with even better side options! I don't think I've ever waited more than 15 minutes and half the time I just call ahead and pick it up 20 minutes later. Super friendly staff! Great ambiance! Great location! Only negative is the dining room gets a little crowded but that's a good problem to have. Now to the important matter: their hot chicken is AMAZING. I have tried most every hot chicken joint in Nashville, as well as dozens of other restaurants who are smart enough to include it on their menu. I enjoy it in the upper 20% hotness ranking :) While many of the hot chicken establishments have their own unique spin and flavor, may taste similar. But Hattie B's and Bishops have a totally different flavor than the others. It's almost a sweetness..before the heat slaps you in the face. My husband and I both get it xtra hot, either the leg quarter or tenders. The mac n cheese and carrot souffle- O-M-G. You haven't lived until you eat their carrot souffle. read more

There is a secret about this place that only locals know I won't tell you exactly but you'll see in my pictures! There is always a good selection of entries and sides. Food is fresh and delicious! Service is quick and helpful. Today we ordered two mediums and they came out HOT. I guess their spice levels are different because they don't have as many to choose from. We stopped here after my sister raved about it. Pretty crowded inside. There were a lot of choices of food. After seeing a guy get what looked like sweet bbq chicken to go, I asked for that as well. I was informed it was hot sauce/buffalo. I got the hot chicken in mild but seemed sort of like medium. The chicken breast was big. I also got Mac and cheese after reading the reviews. I also wanted to try the jalapeño cornbread (okay) and the stuffing was gritty. The Mac & cheese was pretty good when I added some salt. The meal held me over for a long time. read more

I wanted to get something quick and cheap... this was quick but not cheap. A meat and 2 is $8.49 and meat and 3 is $8.99. Then again, we are in Cool Springs. Today, I had the braised beef tips over rice with turnip greens and carrot souffle. The braised beef tips over rice was okay - it had beef, celery and carrots in a gravy... the turnip greens, pretty standard. The carrot souffle was buttery and was probably my favorite out of everything I had. The server was nice and explained what everything was. There are probably about 10-12 two/four seater tables. Moe's BBQ is similiar and nearby. I won't be returnng to Bishop's. read more

This is the birthplace of Hattie B's. This location has been in Franklin since 2007. In 2011 they started making hot chicken here, and then their son started Hattie B's in 2012. On their menu, instead of calling it hot chicken, they actually call it Hattie B's chicken. You can get mild, medium and hot. I tried their regular fried chicken, and thought it was very good. The hot chicken, I believe, is made to order so it comes out hotter and fresher. The sides are a little bit different than Hattie B's...some better, some not. To me, the sweet potato tasted a little bit sweeter. I like this version more, actually. They also have jalapeño cornbread. The black eyed pea's are also a little different here. It's not the spicy salad type like Hattie B's. It's a good meat and 3 to try. Obviously very popular, and popular for a reason. read more

Ohhh how I love a good meat & three. I don't look like it, but I was raised going to meat & threes all my life. The first time I came to Bishop's, I didn't even realize that these were the same folks behind Hattie B's, and to be honest, I NEVER order the hot chicken here. Shocker, I know! I just eaten Hattie B's more times than you can count, so I need something a little different. My favorite days are Wednesday (smothered pork chop), Thursday (fish almondine!) and Friday (catfish and hushpuppies). Favorite sides are greens, squash casserole, and carrot souffle, which is like sweet potato cass but better. Only thing I would skip is the jalapeno cornbread because it can be dry, but regular corn muffin is okay! Overall food is high quality, and Bishop's is a part of my lunch rotation. But be warned, you'll want to take a nap after lunch. read more

Despite its newish building and simple decor, Bishops has old school food with comforting flavors. Served cafeteria style, this meat and three hits home. The meat options change daily, as do some sides. I went on Monday- they had chopped steak, fried chicken, grilled chicken, and beef tips. I loved the fried chicken. The white meat was the juiciest I've ever had. The turnip greens and mac and cheese were soul satisfying too. My only critique- the service was a kinda slow. I'll be back for more! read more

The food is really good. The restaurant is way too small for the amount of business they do, but then again somehow small = great food and good service. In spite of the business there was ample seating by the time we got around to purchasing our meal. My visit was on a Sunday. Not sure how it pans out during the week, but the food was good. I'd venture to traveling the destination for a lunch encounter. I had the mac and cheese, hot chicken, and jalapeno cornbread. So I tried this place for the first time yesterday. When I walked in, there were roughly 10 people in line in front of me going through and placing their orders. I got fried chicken and 2 vegetables. The food I had was fine - nothing special but not bad at all either. The issue I had is what happened next. As I sat down to eat, I noticed the next person who came in after me was told "I'm sorry, we close at 2:30 and we're not serving anymore today". I look down at my phone and it's just after 2:40. No issues so far. At 2:45, somebody turned off the music that had been playing. Immediately following, someone comes out and turns off the tv. I'm thinking "ok, they're cleaning up; I didn't have to watch that lol, but I'll still have time to finish my food". Next thing I know at 2:50, EVERYONE working there went to the back and turned out all the lights on the main floor WHERE I WAS STILL EATING. I just thought this was beyond rude. No warning, no "do you need anything", just turned the lights off. At this point I'm just beyond irritated, so I get up, put my trash away and walk out. I get that people want to leave when it's time to leave, and had they told me when I walked in "we're about to close" I would have been fine - I probably would have just went somewhere else, and came back another day. But after this, I won't be back. I never even thought about them closing at 2:30, but that's not a big deal to me at all, or the fact that they were cleaning up around me the majority of the time I was sitting and trying to enjoy my meal, but to turn the lights out on me...really??? I checked my receipt. I got my food and paid for it at 2:36. I scarfed down what I could (part of the time in the dark) and was back in my car a few minutes before 3:00. So again, I understand people need to leave, but don't take my $$ and allow me to sit there for 10 minutes and then turn the lights out so I'll leave. I find myself craving meat and vegetables frequently especially when I'm running around all over town. There's nothing like comfort food to fill you up and make you happy. This is becoming one of my regular lunch spots. Today I had the stuffed pepper. It was a bell pepper stuffed with ground beef and rice in a tomato sauce. I got the mashed potatoes and green beans with it. It was great but I wasn't surprised because I've never had anything bad here. I've tried the chopped steak and the hot chicken on past visits. All the vegetables I've tried have been cooked perfectly. The staff is friendly and they work very hard trying to get everyone through the line. When you arrive the line forms to the right. It is cafeteria style so you pick up a tray and then decide what meat and vegetables you want. This place gets very busy especially around noon. I've learned that the best time to go is usually between 11 and 11:30. read more

Most excellent find on our way through town with trailer. Headed to CFA and ended up in parking lot of Bishops. Grilled chicken and carrot soufflé was amazing. This place is off the chain! I had fried chicken, carrot casserole and Mac and cheese. The chicken was so so so good. It's better then Guess's Fried Chicken. Guess's chicken is dry and no flavor. Bishops chicken was juicy and delicious! The place is owned by a great man and his family. The owner comes out checks on the guest and that's what sets him apart from other places.
