I learned the hard way by not asking for a written estimate. I had a verbal quote for $150 ish to replace a switch on my furnace. The technician spent approximately 25 mins working and I received a bill over $800.I thought it was a mistake. When I called the office wondering why it was so much more they didn't care and said they would take payments. I know I was completely ripped off!!! read more

The technician was frendly. The service was not. My husband has been servicing our swamp cooler for the last ten years. I decided that I did'nt want him going up on our second story roof at his age now. So we hired Bishop Heating & Air conditioning. The technician did not check to see if the water flow was adequate or if the pump was working right. The unit did not produce cool air after he left. frustrated my husband has been up on the roof now at least 5 times! Needed a better water level, pump and better servicing. I did call before we sent a payment. The receptionist was apologetic but that was it. Not sure we would recommend but not many choices in our area So? read more

I arrived at our home in Mammoth with my family including granddaughters (1 and 3) last Wednesday. It was going to be a 17 degree night with big winds. Our furnace wouldn't start and I panicked. It was the original...thirty years old. No problems before that. I called Bishop Heating & Air Conditioning and Chris (the owner) responded by helping me try to reboot it over the phone. When that didn't work he came out personally and he discovered the immediate problem. He knew it from just the sound it was making when it try to ignite. He fixed the immediate issue and we were with heat again. I slept on it and realized that what we really needed was a new system. Once again he responded quickly and replaced the entire system at a competitive price in one day after the weekend. The response, expertise, and helpfulness was amazing. This morning, Christmas Eve, we were without heat. The indoor temperature was 54 degrees. We called Bishop Heating and Bob came within an hour. He had a humorous way of letting us know he would resolve our problem! Within an hour, he had diagnosed and replaced the heater ignition switch and replaced an ancient thermostat. Folks, these guys are super! I followed a link to call this Lennox dealer because my furnace wouldn't start. To my surprise, they answered so quickly (I thought it was a corporate number) but obviously it wasn't. Who is why this was so interesting, lol. I told them I was being stubborn about running my heat this year and this was the first time I had started it and it seemed like it wouldn't light. I was worried about the freeze warning tonight. She hadn't heard there would be a freeze. She asked for my address and I gave it. Which raised some humorous conversation as I live near Cape Canaveral, FL! Oh course she hadn't heard about the freeze! I had no idea they were a local business in a small area across the country! But just like friendly small town folk, they put someone (in my case, Chris) on the phone and he got my furnace started in about 3 minutes time! All the way from California! (Which is good because that repair call commute would have been terrible!) And they're probably much friendlier and more helpful than I would have had in my neck of the woods! Nice few minutes of conversation, friendly, knowledgeable and helped though they didn't need to. I hope ya all appreciate the good, local folks you have there in your town! three years ago, bishop heating installed a $12k mini split system on the north side of our house, under a shedding roof. i initially (in the bidding, purchasing phase) was ok with that because it is the sheltered side of our house and i thought the eve was going to protect the outdoor unit from snow/roof avalanches. after the installation it became apparent that the unit was offset from the wall so much that it would not be protected from avalanches. the past few years were relatively dry and we had no significant roof avalanches. enter 22/23, a record snow year. at the end of january, ie after already getting pounded for over two months, our mini split took a hit. the unit itself was not damaged beyond a few scratches on the cover, but the bracket that held it (7' above ground) was bent and the unit dangled at a 25-30 degree forward angle, making it even more exposed to future avalanches. we called bishop heating and they came out and fixed it! the job involved disconnecting and removing the old unit, removing the bent angle bracket, installing a new angle bracket, and reinstalling/connecting the unit. now take a quick breath and ask yourself how much you would expect to pay for a fix like that? we never received ANY sort of (verbal, written, email, etc.) quote/estimate for this work and put our good faith in bishop heating... however, we found out THREE AND A HALF MONTHS later (WTF??? - how's that for business/billing practices?!) when we finally received an invoice for $2300+, which included FOUR 'technicians' for FOUR hours each, ie SIXTEEN hours billed at a rate of $135/hr - to replace a bent angle bracket!!! note that average contractors in the area charge around $65/hour (yes, the high end ones do charge more) and the people who work for them (ie do the manual labor) make significantly less. i could understand charging that 'technician' rate for a couple of hours, ie the disconnection and re-connection of the unit, but four guys for four hours each? we got seriously overcharged, gouged, reamed, whatever you want to call it... prior to receiving this bill we were actually considering bishop heating for another job and asked them to come out for a bid. made the appointment: time window 10-noon. they didn't show and didn't call until AFTER (20-30 minutes) those two hours were gone. what responsible business does that? let's you sit and THEN tells you they're running late? unless we have some sort of warranty issue we're not going to deal with bishop heating again and are sorry to say that we can NOT recommend this business, no matter how friendly and local they may seem on the surface - you may regret it the way we have... ps: i spoke with chris and got a host of excuses ranging from 'i have to pay my technicians' (nobody is arguing against that - but you don't have to charge us SIXTEEN hours at a rate of $135/hr - it is exorbitant!), 'they had to work on a snow berm' (i actually built a temporary shelter around the unit after his technicians came and found the fact that the unit was only about a foot above the fairly hard packed roof avalanche snow vs. 7' above the ground in normal conditions made it much EASIER to access!), 'we use gps coordinates/time stamps to calculate labor charges' (ie his technicians could be sitting outside your house on their cell phones and you'd be charged $135/hr/person for it), etc. - there was no suggestion or offer of recourse on his part, only an admission that we got charged too much... read more

Our evaporative cooler was emitting warm air for several days and we contemplated switching to centralized A/C. My husband contacted Bishop Heating & Air Conditioning to request an estimate and Chris, the owner, paid us a visit. Instead of selling us a new A/C unit, he offered to send two of his guys to try fix our cooler first. Lo and behold, cooler seems to be working fine now. It's comfortable once more inside the house. I live hundreds of miles away from Bishop. But I received a call from the inyo Sheriff telling me my 93 year old mother's swamp cooler had quit operating and she was being transported to the hospital. I called Bishop Heating and Air late Friday afternoon and they were on the job. They immediately traveled to my mother's residence and replaced the swamp coolers broken pump. Love these Guys. Our central heat was not working. We are in June Lake and they came the very next day, split the travel cost 3 ways!
