My friends and I have been waiting to try this new spot for a few weeks, so I finally made a reservation 2 weeks in advance, to get in. We got there a few minutes before our reservation, and once we got up to the hostess, we were seated quickly. Our waitress was very nice, and got us our drinks. In looking at the menu, I was a little put off... the menu states you will only be served 2-3 creamer with each cup of coffee. I don't use creamer in my coffee, but the limit kind of irked me. We ordered our meal; I got a side of grits, a side of turkey bacon, and a biscuit. My friends got strawberry french toast, rum boogie french toast, biscuits and gravy, and an alotta potata. It took 45 minutes for our food to come out. There was a table behind us that was seated after us, and they were done with their meals before we got ours. When I ordered my biscuit, she asked me what type of jam I would like, and I answered peach and blackberry. She told me that there would be a $0.50 upcharge for the second jam. Okkkayyy. I asked if they had cheese grits, and she told me that they could have cheese put on top, I said that was perfect.
Once our food came out, I was extremely disappointed. My friend got huge fluffy biscuits with her gravy, and my poor little biscuit looked like a hockey puck. The jam that I was going to be upcharged for was in a sauce cup, it wasn't a single serve packet, but it was dished out of a jar that they have in the back. I can't imagine in what world you should be charged for that. I ordered a side biscuit, and no butter was brought out with it. I don't actually butter my bread, but 99% of people do. I guess you could ask for butter, but I would think that would be a given to put butter on the plate with the biscuit and jam. The turkey bacon looked like human skin, not bacon. I ONLY eat turkey bacon, and I have never seen turkey bacon look like this in my life. The grits were delicious, and I believe they added a ton of cheese, to make them cheesy, not just a little sprinkling on top. Both of the french toast dishes looked a little sad, and the bread didn't look like anything special. I didn't eat it, but it looked just like plain wonder bread. The alotta potata looked good, and my friends did enjoy that, but all in all, we were disappointed. We thought that a place called Biscuits and Jams, would actually bring you a bread basket of biscuits to eat while you wait 45 minutes for your food.
When I got the check, I found that I wasn't upcharged for the jam as was indicated, but I was upcharged for the cheese, which was not. I don't mind, because I like cheese in my grits, but it should have been mentioned. All in all, a very disappointing experience, and I will not go back. read more
