There's a very good reason I felt like a mischievous gal fallen down the rabbit hole - this place has a touch of wonderland about it. As you can tell from my photos, I was not at all intrigued and barely found a hint to take a picture of (they really should have a dedicated sarcasm font don't you think?). Just a few weeks after arriving in Scotland, I hopped on a train for an overnight adventure. I wouldn't attempt this in a day - it's well worth a night's stay and that gives you a bit of time to wander through Pitlochry afterwards/before unrushed. The Enchanted Forest is a beautiful exhibit of light and music. I would definitely suggest you take a week day jaunt through and try for the latest booking time possible - less kiddies colliding about. Not that they were a bother, the ones that were on my tour time, but it was nice to have a less hectic crowd to wander through the lights with. That being said, if you have wee ones - this is a perfect evening out, as they have story huts and lots to keep little minds entertained. Definitely grab yourself a mulled wine and though you'll want to snap every moment imaginable, do take some time to get out from behind the camera and just watch. I had hoped there would be more aerial artists. The two that were there, were wonderful and it only made me wish there were more artists roaming in, up and around the trees. It would add a completely new element to the experience that would be pretty darn special. But what they've done so far is top notch. The blend of music and lights is exceptionally done and the walk is both exciting and contemplative. Well done Enchanted Forest - it takes quite the force to make me wax poetic confusion. I would love to get a behind the scenes peek at this installation - because it has to take an army to get all those lights up (and some sneaky generator work?). But it's efficiency, right down to the well choreographed bus transfers just makes it easier to get yourself lost in pretty, pretty lights. Go be Alice for an evening. It's well worth the adventure.

A yearly outdoor art installation of light and sound. This is held in a forest near Pitlochry,…read morewhich is in the Lower Highlands. We went as group and got tickets about a month before. Which is recommended as the evening we went was sold out. The organisation was tight and very efficient, buses left from the Fisher's Hotel every 10-15 minutes. The installation / presentation is a 10 minutes drive away from Pitlochry. In the bus you get a 'safety instruction' which is easy to follow and funny for children. On arrival you are greeted by a dark forest with many coloured lights in the tree crowns. Many balloons with neon flashers stuck in trees.. poor kids. Let's get this clear beforehand, it was a very wet, damp evening. The Enchanted forest was drenched. Alright, for true West Coasters this was no more than a persistent heavy drizzle, but it was WET. The theme this year was called 'absORB' and the light themes where just like that. The pathways are lit by small coloured orbs. We also got ourselves a couple diode balloons, which added to the magic effects. The route took us past many sound and light shows that are difficult to describe. All equally mesmerising and pretty. The main focus was a massive moon-like orb at the entrance. This was visible from all over the site. My personal favourites was the 'evolution' 3D light show projected on a rock face. This was very fluid and pretty. The other was the lake orbs. With the music it was a special showpiece which is reflected into the water of the central loch (lake) creating a mirror effect doubling the experience.. that was truly magical. I could have watched just that all evening. Then there was the (as we dubbed it) 'Dr Who' bridge, that looked like an infinity light speed entrance to another time & dimension. And a great opportunity to take some pictures that don't require night vision camera features. There are several toilets, resting places dotted around. If you do get lost the many stewards are able to guide you on your way. After a few rounds we were a little too wet and the rain was getting heavier. We went back to the bus queue, again fast and efficient. It was a good show and a great experience.

Great classic old theatre…read more In America, all of our cinemas have been bought up by the Chinese. They are all now cookie cutter and extremely expensive. This has a bit of a Cinema Paradiso feel to it. The way theaters used to be. The way theaters should be. The screens are nice and the sound is great- that's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about the FEEL of actually going into a movie theater. Not just a cookie cutter, bland, corporate cattle call. The locals are terrified that Tiger Woods and Justin Timberlake are going to buy this place. Gut it. And turn it into a golf simulator. Thats the rumor. Dear God, please prevent this from happening! This place deserves to exist.

This is the only cinema I have ever been to that I would describe as quaint! It has only a small…read moreselection of the biggest selling films but it has a great vibe that brings back nostalgic feelings for the olden days. Only the main screen is really large (the others could nicely be described as intimate) but ticket prices are low and the late night Wednesday classic is not to be missed.

I have never discovered if this is intentional or they just cannot be bothered changing the light bulbs. Inside, you have a very unremarkable cinema. Seven screens of wildly varying quality - no surround sound except in screens 1 to 3 - and old looking seating with the usual sticky floor, worn feeling of an older cinema. My main gripe is that the cinema has so many screens, yet it will hold onto mainstream movies long after appeal has subsided, moving them down to less and less impressive screens, milking them as long as possible. I feel the cinema could do with a more eccentric taste in film, with a faster turnover. I would certainly go to the cinema more if they played more unusual movies, such as foreign choices or indie movies. There is no need to keep playing Star Trek for about a month and a half when you could play something a little more interesting instead. Mainstream blockbusters are fine and have their place, but with such an old, historic building, the cinema could do with carving out a reputation for supporting lesser known cinema, a lot like the Dundee Contemporary Arts has.

So, a review (a real one, not one I'd imagined) was inevitable. The quality of films shown at this cinema has improved in recent months. Prior to this, we were often disappointed with what was on offer. On more than one occasion in the past, we've had to travel to the Falkirk Cineworld or head up to The Macrobert cinema on the university campus to see a film, since it wasn't shown here. Lately, Vue's been showing all the films we've wanted to see. We're cinema night-hawks; no queues, no chitter-chatter several rows ahead, no awkward manoeuvres as you attempt to get to the bathroom mid-film. - Just you and the movie. In fact, on several occasions we've had the screen to ourselves. Which makes us wonder, why did Vue bring back the late night showings when there doesn't seem to be a need for it in Stirling? Regardless, I love the late night showings. - Thank you, Vue! It's a 3.5 from me. I do think better of this cinema than I did before. Staff are always friendly, but it is expensive and if you book online there's a 10% charge added, as opposed to Cineworld's 10% saving when you book online. I do hope the late showings stick around!

There's a large open space as you enter and it's not immediately clear where to buy tickets from. Weirdly, they don't seem to have a dedicated ticket desk, at least not one that's consistently in operation. Rather, you can buy tickets from the self-service machines, or from any of the concessions stands. Maybe it's just me, but I feel a bit awkward buying tickets at the popcorn stand if I'm not buying popcorn. Maybe that's the point. Who knows? In any case, the staff didn't bat an eyelid and just let us choose a seat and pointed us to the screens. So far I have only visited this cinema once, midweek and for a small-ish movie. I seriously doubt the screen we saw was their main flagship screen, but it was almost funny how small it was. I know people with bigger projector screens in their living rooms. That said, it was fine - the picture was fine, the sound was fine, nothing about the movie-going experience was damaged by the small screen. Even so, I reckon they might be due an upgrade. The cinema is fine, the staff are good, getting tickets is efficient once you figure out where to buy them. Plus, they run the same Cineworld Unlimited discounts that every other branch runs, and you're right by a bunch of places that also offer discounts to cinema-goers. I'm sure we'll be back.

Seats weren't particularly comfortable, I wouldn't choose to sit through 3 back to back lord of the rings movies but you can survive through a single dodgy comedy movie. On the plus side they have a Starbucks concession in the building to add to their normal pick and mix popcorn and hotdogs. I can't say I will be back as the prices are servilely inflated for the services on offer and quality of the cinema itself. Staff seem to have been brought down the suroundings inside the cinema itself with their general mood could be percieved as downtrodden as the quality of the cinema. They really need a re-vamp in here and soon.

The cinema is always fairly clean and tidy and the toilets are large and well laid out - you never have to wait too long even if it is busy. The car parking is sufficient. The prices for sweets and very high as with all cinemas but it really gets on my nerves - exploitation - the ticket prices are high enough! The amount of films on offer are good and the times are varied enough. Nothing to sing or shout about but not much to complain about either - its a fine and fairly standard cinema!

For dessert we shared the chocolate fondant, was amazing! I will be dreaming about that dessert for a long time! We finished off with the cheese board, which we also enjoyed to the max. A little expensive but highly enjoyable.
