Still the best of the best in the city of Irving! I mean let's be real the nature trails are one of the reasons why I still reside in this wonderfully diverse city. Despite the constant flooding that occurs in the area when it rains, I feel like they still do what they can to make sure they keep up the park. They've actually expanded the width of the sidewalks which is great for the rapidly growing area. They've also added a flower garden for those who want to sightsee. The pavilion is also kept up nicely, be sure to arrive early because it is constantly being used by large groups for events and etc. The one thing I do wish they had along this part of the trail are bathrooms and better water fountains. But it's great if you like to stay active with biking and running and there is plenty of parking and it does feel safe for the most part. Spring/ early summer is a great time of year to go and check it out, stay cool under the shaded trees and enjoy nature! read more

This trail is enjoyable. You are walking, jogging, biking, along the river. Most of the time you have a nice and peaceful view. The trail is about 1.5 miles, but it connects to other trails. So, you can keep exercising. It is quite safe. I wish there were more water fountains. That would be ideal. 5 stars. read more

A great place to access the Campion Trail with at least 20 parking spaces, a reservable pavilion, grill, water fountains, trail map (take a picture of the encased one), rentable V bikes, a couple of port-a-johns, and...most importantly for flower, insect, butterfly, and hummingbird-lovers, there is a butterfly garden just a short walk south of the main pavilion! I had noticed this place while passing a few times and the colorful butterfly garden caught my attention! Despite the 90+ degree heat, I found myself captivated in that magical space and grateful to the city employees who installed it back in 2016! You have beautified our city and given us a chance to get up close to incredible beauty and life! Our campion trail rocks but, wow! It needed some color and this little garden is bursting with life! If interested in using the Campion Trail, this is a great park and access point to hop on--just a 7 min bike ride or a 20-30 min walk from Los Colinas and the Famous Mustangs as well as the beautiful Lake Carolyn Promenade and Mandalay Canal. read more

Nice quiet little trail for a jog. A little uncomfortable because there's a shooting range across the river so I always have this irrational fear like a stray bullet is going to strike me or something. In the spring the bluebonnets come out and it's beautiful. The park does flood often and will have to be closed off in the winter. read more

Sometimes the places that you discover by pure accident turn out to be some of your favorite spots. I think that's the scenario for my discovery of Birds Fort Trail Park. When I say "discover", I don't mean that I'm the first to ever lay eyes on it...I mean that I really wasn't looking for it, and I just happened to find it by accident (just like Christopher Columbus!). I do a lot of work up in Irving, and whenever I'm there, and have to work later on that day, I don't feel like driving all the way home to Dallas for a few minutes, and then fighting rush hour traffic to get back to work. These are the times when I need to waste a couple of hours and Birds Fort Trail Park is going to be the spot where I waste that time from now on! The park is kept up very well. Campion trail winds right through it and frequently you see walkers, runners, and riders make their way through the area. To the people who use Katy Trail on a regular basis, if you ever want a change of pace, and don't mind driving a few minutes out of the way, Campion Trail and Birds Fort Trail Park is a great option! Right off of the trail, there is a large pond where ducks are going nuts, flying and swimming. You have the perfect view of the ducks activity from benches lined along the trail. So peaceful and relaxing! At the entry on Riverside Drive, there is a medium sized parking lot. There aren't too many spaces, but while I was there it wasn't close to being full so I don't think parking would be an issue. There's also a covered area that has a lot of picnic tables and benches underneath. A real nice place to come sit outside with your lunch and a book! Whenever the weather is nice, and you want to enjoy the great outdoors, this is a good destination. This is a great discovery for me...it adds another option for me when I'm deciding on how to pass time in Irving! read more

Awesome paved trail to go running or biking. Does not have a lot of trees though for shade so keep that in mind. It was really hot when I went, so I appreciated the few bridges and trees to help shade away that sun. Also, I only saw a fountain at this park, in the beginning of my run. I wish that they had more fountains. Once you park at Birds Fort, there is a shaded area, with 5-6 picnic tables. They do have porter pottys there for public use. They just need more water fountains please! read more

The park is very well preserved. I was looking for a location that will allow my team to go enjoy some outside time at and use a grill. I took a walk and found that it's gorgeous but what's a part of you can't enjoy it with others? read more

Birds Fort Trail Park - No group gatherings - Parks Near Me - Irving, Texas

This is one of my favorite parks in the metroplex. It has a water fountain and they've just planted a lot of trees along the path through this park. They're young so they'll take awhile to mature to the point where they'll provide any real shade, but I saw that it was something that someone had complained about in regards to this park so I thought it was worth mentioning. Also, try exploring the paved trail south for a shaded bench. North on the paved trail will take you to Spring Trail Park which also has some shaded areas, in fact, some of the best :) When the offroad trail (closer to the river bank) is open, you can count on seeing the monarch butterflies there during their migration, but you'll see them along the paved trail too. In one 15 mile ride I counted seeing 42 monarch butterflies. It's something spectacular. I've also seen snakes, armadillos, skunks, squirrels, cardinals, rabbits, lizards, ducks, geese, herons, egrets, and some massive spiders (Texas ya'll). The park has a private parking lot with plenty of parking. One of the pictures showed the extent of flooding as the park's Campion Trail does run right along the Trinity River, sometimes making this park inaccessible during the monsoon months. It has a large meadow between Riverside Dr and the paved trail. I didn't see anyone else talking about it, so I'll bring it up and this is why I'm giving it 4 stars. It's also mentioned on the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department's web site as a place for shore fishing. Bring your license, pole, and bait and come catch some crappie, catfish, or bass. You could also launch a canoe, kayak, or stand-up paddle board here too. It has a large pavilion with several picnic tables. If I remember right, i think it has a charcoal grill or two as well. It has covered park benches overlooking the river that are nicely spaced. It has exercise equipment. The trees are excellent for slackline. It has a little garden area that's nicely kept. It's central location, nice facilities, and easy access do make it popular so this park is rarely empty. Don't expect to be here alone. If it had flushing toilets, I'd give it 5 stars. read more

This has a nice, paved trail for walking or biking. Parking is easy and adequate. Unfortunately the sound of gunfire from the shooting range across the river was incessant while i was there. The noise is not relaxing at best, and on some parts of the trail startlingly loud. read more

This is a nice park for a picnic or potluck event. Bear in mind the water fountain is out of order and there are no restrooms so you will should plan around those items, but the shelter and tables are modern and well kept, and there is very little road noise at the park so you can relax and hang out with friends. I will definitely be back. read more

I love that I found this park in the middle of Irving. It's got a nice variety of scenery as it runs alongside the Trinity River. The only reason why I'm not giving it 5 stars is I didn't see many restroom facilities or water fountains along the trail when I ran. Will definitely be back. read more

This place floods and will be closed for extreme lengths of time. Over several months we tried to go several times and just decided to go elsewhere. Judging by the last couple of reviews I see it's opened up again finally, for now. There isn't that much trail to wander. The park is skinny, but not long enough for me. Some of the cement is exposed to highway and intense sun. Much of the trail is within throwing distance of the cement. I wish there was more signage for connection from park to park. There's a shooting range opposite on the river which makes for a noisy memorial day. It's the best in that area though; decent. If you want more trail, Coppell nature park is better, and Arbor Hills preserve in Plano is best I've seen yet for both trail and cement path. I don't know that place like the back of my hand yet and I've been about a dozen times. read more

One of the best course for inline skating, cycling, jogging; trail track is wide and there are no crossings till cimmaron park in the north.
