I believe this location opened in late 2025 and is the first and only in RI so far. Based on the menu and pictures, it reminded me of Dave's Hot Chicken. My family and I came on a weekend for a casual dinner. When we arrived, there were a lot of people, but by the time we got our food, it had mostly cleared out, leaving us with a couple tables to choose from. The ones near the counter were blasting heat from the ceiling, making it unbearable so we moved to the back. We ordered the loaded fries with mac and cheese, a chicken sandwich only, the plate with two chicken sandwiches, the plate with a chicken sandwich and a wing, and three drinks. They do allow you to choose your heat level ranging from not spicy at all to grim reaper which you might need to sign a waiver for. We hovered around the mild to hot range. The person who took our order was very kind, brought out our food, and highly recommended we use the honey packets on our food. am so grateful for his advice and glad I took it because it mellowed the spiciness a bit, while creating the perfect balance of savory, spicy, and sweet. The fries looked incredible and can easily feed 2 people or can be shared among a small group. It had juicy cut up chicken tenders piled on top, with a couple sauces, cheesy mac and cheese, and crispy fries. The chicken sandwich was packed with chicken that was perfectly breaded and fried. The bread is soft and the cole slaw is fresh. The chicken wing is big, flavorful, and thoroughly cooked. Ordering it as a side is expensive ($4.50). You will need lots of napkins, but that's true for all good, finger food. It is located off of Thayer street so parking can be rough on weekends. The total was about $50 which is good for 4 people - and we left full.

i had really good first time experience here. came for iftar with my friend and everything is fried or made to order. i didn't mind a little wait because everything was fresh and no soggy fries. my friend said the mac needed more of a kick, i think they need to just carry some hot sauce in the shop. the have birdies sauce and cheese sauce and honey as options. i got the loaded fries and a tender on the side and lots of extra pickles, and i think my eyes were bigger than my stomach but i still finished it all. they were very hospitable for a hybrid order-then-sit set up like they came and checked on us throughout the evening and brought things to the table. they keep it clean inside. they were playing a lot of 2010s music lol. i think next time i would crank up my spice level, its more manageable than you would think. very reminiscent of dave's hot chicken but more fresh.

Chomp is one of those Providence restaurants that I keep finding myself coming back to, even after…read moretelling myself I should probably try something else on the menu. I've eaten my way through quite a few things here over the years, and while there are plenty of good choices, I keep coming back to the Smokey and the Bandit smash burger. At this point, I probably know what I'm ordering before I even sit down. There's just something about that combination that keeps winning. The food here is consistently good. Everything I've had has been fresh, hot, and full of flavor, and the kitchen seems to have that part figured out without making a big production of it. The menu has enough variety that you can come in with different appetites and still find something you want, but it doesn't feel like one of those places with a menu the size of a small novel where you need twenty minutes just to decide what you're looking at. The beer selection is another reason I enjoy Chomp. There's enough variety to make choosing a beer part of the experience rather than simply grabbing whatever happens to be on tap. Prices are also pretty reasonable for the quality and portion sizes, which is increasingly something I notice because restaurant prices have a funny way of creeping upward when you're not paying attention. The location is another part of the appeal. Chomp sits in a great little part of Providence where you can easily make an evening out of being in the neighborhood. There are plenty of other restaurants, shops, and places to wander around nearby, so it doesn't feel like you're making a special trip just to eat and then immediately getting back in the car. Tonight, though, I have to give a special shout-out to Bella, who was our server. She was outstanding. Friendly, personable, attentive without hovering, and genuinely helpful. She suggested adding bacon to my Smokey and the Bandit, which I probably wouldn't have thought to do on my own. I'm very glad she mentioned it because it was an excellent call. Sometimes the best recommendations are the simple ones, and she nailed it. One piece of advice if you're planning on coming here: make a reservation if you can. Chomp can fill up quickly, and given how good the food is, that really shouldn't come as much of a surprise. It's the kind of restaurant where people come back because they already know they're going to have a good meal, and I'm certainly part of that group. Five stars from me. Great food, good beer, reasonable prices, a fantastic Providence location, and genuinely good service. I've tried enough of the menu over the years to know that Chomp has plenty of options, but apparently I'm still incapable of walking through the door without ordering that Smokey and the Bandit. Add Bella's bacon recommendation to the list of reasons I'm going to keep coming back.

We both ordered the Classic Smash Burger, one with cheese and one without. Unfortunately, both burgers were utterly tasteless, with virtually no seasoning detected at all. The Chomp Sauce that was supposed to elevate the burger was so sparse it barely made an appearance, leaving the burgers bland. Honestly, the bun was the best part. The brussel sprouts I ordered also lacked flavor and seasoning aside from the char, and his Cajun fries were so salty they were nearly inedible. After driving from Massachusetts to Rhode Island as a special Mother's Day treat, it ended up being a very disappointing experience, especially given the overwhelmingly positive reviews. We may have caught them on an unusually busy night, but unfortunately our meals fell far short of our expectations.

The ambience: The bar area can be loud and boisterous so you have to be in the mood for that vibe. That being said, it's fun and welcoming with great service. The food and drinks: Their specialty cocktails are strong, taste good and are affordably priced. I had a cherry one (can't remember the name) but it was flavorful and not too sweet. They also have a large selection of beers both on tap and in cans. The shrimp Poboy is absolutely huge and stuffed with well seasoned fried shrimp and the accompanying sweet potato fries were crispy and delicious. We ordered a greek salad to go and it was a generous portion covered with kalamata olives, feta cheese and picked vegetables. My only tip would be to have them put toppings on the side next time to keep the lettuce crispy. Otherwise a very satisfying salad! We tried to order the fish sandwich but both times they have been sold out so I guess it must be good! Definitely plan to go back to try more menu items and cocktails!

I had to tone it down and not order two meals for myself so instead ordered more appetizers.. Started with the Original Corn Dogs, Steamed Pork Dumplings , Spicy Edamame , and a small order of their advertised Honey Garlic Wings (beware that the wing options are at the front counter and not on the printed menu). The corn dogs were crispy with a thin style hotdog. The dumplings were flavored with herbs/spices and not just plain. The edamame was covered in what tasted like delicious pickled mildly spicy pimental peppers. The honey garlic wings came out hot, crispy and the sauce was finger-licking good. I was legit scraping the empty wing try with a spoon to savor the fresh garlicky/savory/sweet sauce. We both decided to dive into a Dumpling Kimchee Ramen.. Of course I added rice cakes and vegetables.. it came out steaming hot and def burned my mouth on it but it was worth it I've never had kimchi in my soup but I definitely enjoyed the flavor. The soup was stocky and came out with a nice size serving. I'll be back to try the Stonepot Bibimbop!

The beer rotation is solid-to-excellent, and the cocktails (or even straight shots) are what you're looking for. The food on an average day is savory and fulfilling, and if they're barbecuing? Make plans to be here accordingly. The staff care, and that can mean a generous liquor pour, extra homemade barbecue sauce, craft beer recs to taste, tots done your way, or merely the most timely and sure-fire Miller Lite serve your drinking hand's ever seen. Sports are almost an afterthought here (the TVs are on, but patrons and staff reliably pay attention to patrons and staff, vs the telly)...but I've still seen some unbelievably meaningful moments here, from Joe Burrow's LSU coming-out party against Texas, to the Dodgers' wild 2025 World Series culmination, and always with an awesome and diverse (and knowledgeable) crowd tuning in. I ALWAYS find interesting, high quality, and dynamic conversation partners here, no matter the night or the situation, behind the bar or in front of it. Bottom line, high quality neighborhood bars want to grow up to be like What Cheer. Luckily, I just head to the original, and enjoy it every damn time. God bless What Cheer.
