First timer to Birdcode, won't be the last. We tried a couple of sandwiches, mine was the Hot Honey served mild; my husband got the medium on a regular sandwich. I really like spice, but I have to say the mild was enough for me, and I found the medium to be less enjoyable. The chicken was cooked to perfection, crispy and juicy, with a decent roll that didn't fall apart. Tried all the sides, the mac and cheese was decent, not gummy, the fries were crispy and unremarkable, and the vinegar slaw was, well, not vinegary. The owner popped around to tables and I told him I was disappointed in the vinegar slaw, he brought me some from the back that had "marinated" more and it was great. The downside to this place is there is only about 4-5 tables and they are really busy (at least when we went). Happy to hear they are opening a few other places and one in Canton much closer to where we are. I'll be a frequent eater there once it opens! read more

My partner has convinced me to come here as I was craving a chicken sandwich. We went as they opened so there was no wait at all. The decor is pretty and their to go packaging for the food is very nice. We both got the sando, mild and medium. Thr chicken was tender and juicy. The mild tasted salty and greasy, which was a bit ldisappointing. The medium one tasted really good tho, not sure if the mild happend to have the less than perfect piece of chicken or if more spice was able to hide it. Best fried chicken sandwich i have ever had. my previous favorite in CT was Taino in Middletown, but this surpasses it. juicy but crunchy. full of flavors. can be hot, can be mild. every time i do pick up, i end up eating the sandwich in the parking lot. its that good. the mac and cheese is very good as well. the fries are good, especially with the comeback sauce. get a higher heat level than you generally get, you wont regret it. bring extra napkins as it will get messy as you eat. read more

My partner introduced me to this restaurant a year ago and every time I'm back in CT, I make a pit stop. The quality control on the food that comes out of their kitchen is top notch. Got takeout from here a few weeks ago for my mom's birthday. Everything was fantastic. Most of the family got Country (no heat) and enjoyed it. I usually find Nashville Hot Chicken not spicy enough so ordered "Hot" which was good and doable, but next time I'll go medium. Portions were large and we had tons of leftovers. I got a sandwich, everyone else got tenders. Mac and Cheese was fantastic as was the coleslaw. Regular fries were fine, but we didn't care for the shake fries. As always, the Comeback Sauce was a hit. Would definitely come back and recommend to others. read more

Strange how things change when the owners aren't around!! My sandwich was over cooked, the fries were cold but the cookies I ordered were amazing! I came here once in March and was amazed at the quality of the chicken- so tender and juicy! I got the Green Bird and banana pudding back then. Today I introduced BIRDCODE to some other friends and one of them is a picky eater and even said this place was a 10/10!! The brioche bread that's part of the Sando makes it sooo much better. Came here with a friend looking for a good chicken sandwich. I've Been let down by Popeyes, KFC, and all these places that attempt and saw the reviews were very positive for this place, so I figured it's worth the drive to try. Upon arriving (West Hartford) I noticed parking lot was a bit tight, but luckily it was not too busy. During peak hours I could see you having to park on the main st and walk over. Not the biggest deal. Walked in and was immediately greeted by friendly staff. Ordered the hot-honey 2.0 with no pickles, medium heat, and subbed the fries for Mac and cheese. Pink lemonade for drink. Came to about 18$ with the mods n drink, 20$ after tip. Bit steep but fair for what it claims, hoping its worth the 20. Eating area is on the medium/smaller side, but very clean and updated. Warm feel at your seat. you can tell it's local based but it's surprisingly spacious and doesn't feel tight or enclosed for the size. Murals of flaming chickens sprinting across hot chili's was impressive. Def the work of possibly some nice local artist as it was really eye catching. Snagged the window seat with the high metal stools and our meals were delivered right to us shortly after ordering, less then 10 mins, something quick. Now the good part Start by saying pics don't do justice for the size of the chicken breast on the sando. Plate arrives, and here is this monster, dripping in hot honey mixed with beautiful spices. You can see in the pic the pool of perfection that has ran off this freshly dipped sandwich. This is no clean eat. The potato bun was toasted in lots of butter to perfection, you can taste it. Sweet and buttery. Evenly coated in a thin and crunchy coating. They must dip the sandwich in some sort of wet spicy Nashville like sauce, and then coat it with a house mix of dry spices which is killer. Most places don't dip the sandwich, so I was thrilled for that. When you bite into it, you get hit with a complex blend of spice that pairs well with the hot honey and tangy ketchup-based comeback sauce. Sandwich size was much larger than what I expect being used to these other sandos. It was a massive hunk of juicy tender hot white meat. You could tell it was just cooked to order. Extremely juicy too. I ordered medium heat and it was VERY SPICY. It had my nose running! I will get mild next time for sure only get medium or hotter if your a fan of some REAL HEAT. Be sure to grab some ranch, or extra comeback sauce. The heat isn't just hot, it's so flavorful that it's almost addicting and you keep going for another bite until it's gone. Thing was a total unit and extremely messy to eat, be sure to ask for extra napkins / utensils because there Is Not a display for customers to self serve with. could use wet-naps. Fries were a solid crinkle cut, thinner but similar to shake shacks fry. Could be slight more crisp. Mac and cheese was very creamy and buttery, in long spiral noodles that held the sauce well. Tasted like a better more homemade version of paneras Mac. Gooey white buttery goodness, could use salt n pepper. Cooled the heat down immensely. Lemonade was more sweet then sour good balance, and Tastes refreshing. Friends meal looked killer, basically looked like a stacked version of fully loaded Mac. Ranch was 10/10 they use fresh dill in it which was superb, comeback sauce is ketchup based maybe w/mayo in it, faintly similar to thousand island. Should possibly look into doing a Deluxe Sandwich option, where there is lettuce tomato onion cheese on a sandwich. They have dessert and sweets aswell, didn't know until after which was a bummer. No room anyways as portions are generous. On way out, The server wished us a good day. The way he was friendly and attended to all our eatery needs made me want to return. Possible heartburn warning cause it is spicy stuff. It was a extremely hard debate between 4 and 5 stars simply because no lettuce,tomato,cheese. Sides were making me also push 4, but the sandwich was so perfect I had to give them the 5 star. Most places on this account will not be 5 stars unless I feel like they truly are travel worthy, for the overall value and quality of food. I prefer the country style chicken sandwich, solid flavor and not overly spicy like the hotter versions they offer, the breading on the chicken did come off more than I expected but the roll held it in place for the most part. It's a good sandwich and if you don't like super spicy it's a solid option. The real rock star is their banana pudding, next time I may just get a couple of those and call it a meal. So delicious and authentically Nashville hot! I lived in Nashville for about 4 years and went to the hot chicken festival, ate hot chicken at least a few times a month. Prince's was always my favorite. Let me tell you that Birdcode is the real deal. I got the medium tenders and the spice was real but the chicken stayed extremely flavorful. The crunch was perfect. Shake fries were crisp and wonderfully seasoned. Don't eat them without their delicious homemade ranch! Only thing that was just okay was the Mac and cheese. It was creamy and the type that hardens easily. Nothing special and not super flavorful. Go for the other stuff though! We actually drove about an hour to try this hot chicken to see how it compares to those in our area. It has a small parking lot and a few tables if you want to eat in. The staff was friendly, it took maybe about 15 minutes and we got there at 8:30pm for our food to be ready and we took it directly to a table to eat. My boyfriend ordered the hottest level chicken sando as he gets the hottest everywhere we go, he did say it was VERY hot, more with seasoning rather than a sauce. He liked it. They did get our order incorrect and we were so lucky to be right inside to be able to point it out and correct it, I would have been so disappointed if we picked it up and didn't notice til we had left. I ordered cheese fries and the Mac and cheese to go as a side with the sando. Instead they forgot the Mac and cheese and put my cheese fries with his sandwich. Everything was correct on the receipt though. The Mac and cheese was room temperature, which is OK for everything except for Mac and cheese so I asked for them to swap it for a warmer one. I had put my fork in it seconds after they gave it to us and was surprised that the Mac and cheese was room temperature and wondered how long it had been sitting there at that temp. I would say if my eyes were closed I would have said that it tasted like Boston market Mac and cheese, very flat flavor but not bad. The cheese with it is the exact cheese that goes with the cheese fries FYI. Maybe next time we wouldn't get both. Fries were crispy. I was most disappointed that as we were finishing up our meal, my boyfriend had half his Mac left a few bites of sandwich and I had some fries to finish it must have striked 9pm. We maybe needed 3 or 4 minutes to just eat the rest of our meal without choking but the staff literally came to us at at 9 exactly not a second later and said "sorry we are closed we need to ask you to leave." We weren't about to pack up a few bites off everything so we tossed what remained. It just rubbed me the wrong way a little. I'm not a big fan of chicken breast, always think it's dry and tough. But i LOVE their fried chicken breast! it was juicy and crispy! (I still hope that they will consider making fried chicken thighs...) We think this is probably one of the best fried chickens we've had! This place slappppps. Insanely delicious chicken, really funky space- happy a new, unique place has found a home on Park Road. I've already gone twice since they opened, and each time the food has been consistently great. Good size servings, chicken always cooked so well- never dried out or over cooked. Moist and juicy and crave-able. The spices are unlike any other chicken places around here. Like other reviewers have mentioned, it IS spicy chicken in general, so starting with mild is smart, since there is still a kick to mild. Delicious sauces, too, but if you get to go and want ketchup for your fries, be sure to ask for that. I'm glad to see something cool go in that spot- I hope it does well and stays. The restaurant itself is really beautiful- the owners did a great job of designing an aesthetically pleasing atmosphere. Super rad artwork inside and out, and even cooler that it was done by a local artist. It's one of the highlights of the place. I think that the staff is still getting used to keeping up with orders and managing timing of to go and all the delivery services, so just know that when you order, the "ready" time might actually be later than anticipated.
