We explored the area prior to dinner and found this amazing store! We loved the vibe and so many of the offerings they had to offer. The music was cool - staff picks the songs/station. During our visit I was grooving to 70s/disco/motown. It was upbeat and certainly set the mood for fun shopping/browsing experience. She seemed to be enjoying the music as well - she was cheerful and friendly. They had locally made products from sauces, to stickers, to textiles to jewelry, candy...so much...definitely recommend checking out their online store if you aren't able to visit in person...They have over 8 pages of products you can browse online. I love their magnets selections as well I purchased a mood ring that had a cat face on it. I was able to find hot sauce for a friend. It was sauce made in Texas too! I got a sassy fun notebook for a friend, stickers. I can't wait to buy more stuff online. If you purchase more than $75 - you can save on shipping. The prices I felt were very reasonable, especially given that a lot is supporting local artists. I highly recommend for a FUN shopping experience. read more

This is such a cool shop! its quiet small with a lot of things, gadgets and gizmos! I don't know anyone that can walk out of this place and not get one thing. The lady at the register, was so sweet and welcoming she noticed my fur baby and said he was more than welcome to come out of his bag pack. Hilarious offerings. Don't be offended by my photos, but some of their stuff is just outrageously funny. There are lots of hand made items (made upstairs) like bracelets and coozies made out of serapes. The greeting cards are hilarious as well. I would have loved to have carted a lot of stuff home on the plane. (I'll know if we drive next time to stop in here and stock up on all things that make me happy!) This store is the perfect spot to pick up a souvenir of San Antonio. It's full of unique, thoughtfully curated items both small trinkets and larger home and personal goods all with a San Antonio flair. I didn't have the space in my bag to carry back the item I wanted, so I ordered it The staff responded promptly when I contacted them with questions and sent a picture to confirm that they had what I was looking for. My favorite little store in the heart of La Villita. They have anything and everything you never knew you needed. I find myself needing to own everything they have in this store! They are well known for their custom items made from Mexican dresses. They make things like pillows, foot stools, cozies, and small bags and accessories. I'm still holding on to hope that i will see a fanny pack the next time i go in. My favorite things to get here are the puzzles they carry. They are AMAZING and seriously some of the best if you need a challenging yet fun puzzle. I also love their candle selection and funny greeting cards. The staff is also amazing and they make you feel at home as soon as you walk in! They even remember my dogs name when i stop by to see what knew goodies they have in. Bird and Pear is a great little store to buy unique gifts. They have a wide range of artwork, cards, handmade jewelry, candles, soaps and lotions to name a few. They claim to have 10,000 things to make you happy. There is a pretty good chance that the charismatic store owner will ask if you are happy. This shop,was originally located in a smaller store within La Villita Historic Arts Village. It is still in the village but in a newer location. Worth the visit. read more

If their goal was to ruin a good day they succeeded. My husband and I where out attempting to enjoy some time together when we made the mistake of going in this store. The lady behind the register seemed irritated from the second we walked in and made a point of following us around the whole store. We found some puzzle piece blocks in back that we actually thought where interesting and where considering getting. She wouldn't stop staring at us though so we felt uncomfortable and started to leave. She then started yelling and screaming that we messed up her blocks and told us to "f--- off". I have never been treated so horribly in a store. read more

I liked the shop. They had many nicknacks to look at but they don't let you look in peace. I like to shop and when I do shop I like the regular, "hi how are you? Let me know if I can help you find what your looking for." And then let me browse the store. Nope not this place. They are in you like white in rice. I mean as soon as we walked in the door they were right next to us the whole time we shopped. I know they don't want people to steal from them but I also hate feeling like a suspect instead of a customer. I did buy a few things for my daughter and a friend but I didn't spend as much as I would have had they not been so obvious that they thought we were going to steal from them. I won't be back. I stopped in just to browse and spotter their one-of- kind pillows. Could find one that would work in my decor.. the sweet helpful attendant told me they could make one with my choice of colors and even ship the pillow. I love this shop! It is my go-to favorite for unique gifts with a San Antonio flavor. Each time I stop in I find new items in addition to old favorites. I also really appreciate that the store is locally owned and that many of the items for sale are hand-made with great care. Worth a trip downtown - but be warned if you take you children with you - you will not be leaving empty handed after they see the awesome children's section. read more

Actually, Liz, it was you yourself who denied my request for what I was wanting, while we were looking at the very banner I wanted it to be like with only a few different color switches...you told me you couldn't sell me the one that was hanging in your shop because you'd made that one for your shop to cover bolts in the wall...and that you couldn't ACTUALLY do my custom order with any guarantee of colors I was requesting because your dresses that y'all use come in bulk and you never know what you'll have. You told me that y'all would make a bunch of them for Fiesta and to come back then. Well, since i live a couple hours north of there, i can't just pop in daily...BUT i did in fact show up during Fiesta to see all the banners, and was told they'd sold all the ones they would part with so far, and we're holding back the rest for King William Fair and to come back for that!! (I couldn't stay in SA for that three or four more days) Wouldn't even let me see what they had to buy one!!! Crazy way to do business!! THEREFORE, my review regarding your inability/unwillingness to do ACTUALLY CUSTOM orders. Your response to my original review brings to mind, "Talk is cheap," and "you talk the talk but don't walk the walk." So beware custom customers, they don't really do custom! And don't believe that the problem is with her staff, it's the owner Liz herself who chooses to do business this way. I've already found another source for the banners made from Mexican embroidered dresses now, so I'll not return! read more

Stopped by Bird and Pear for a few gifts before returning home. I am so glad that I did. The products were fun and different--not something you will find in box stores or the tourist-traps nearby.
