You know, not the…read moretype that's so creative they're unreliable and flighty, but the type that is just the right mix of brilliance and practicality - like David and his team at Statue of Design. I just knew he would take my ideas and make them come to life in a way only a seasoned professional with a beautifully creative mind can. And he did. It's true, Statue of Design is not your standard "florist." Nothing about this group is regular. Instead, they strive to make each event an artistic representation of their client, by non flower experts in the right direction, or in my case, completely taking the reigns and executing a jaw-dropping tablescape. I was the bride that really didn't care which flowers went where, what specific blooms were used, which containers they were in, etc. So, David and his team took what little direction I gave them, and completely took my breath away with the result. From the reception decor, to the unique bridesmaids flowers, to my picture-perfect bouquet, it was more perfect than I ever imagined. In addition to the flowers, David and his team also helped guide the overall event aesthetic, consulting with me on things like place settings, linen color, lighting, tent placement, and all those extra details that most of us don't even take into account (which you want to do for something as important as your wedding.) I said from the beginning of working with David that all I wanted was to walk into my reception and have it look timeless, classic, and elegant. It was that, but above and beyond. It is least important to me what other people think, but hearing from our guests that it was the most beautiful wedding they'd attended certainly didn't hurt.

Amazing work and amazing people!…read more I am always impressed with the creativity and work that David and his team create time and time again. Beautiful!

One of my friends in San Antonio passed away recently and I wanted to send a special arrangement…read morefor his service. When I say special, I mean none of your Teleflora style generic flower arrangements. I mean something artistic, elegant, and/or unusual. I spent well over an hour looking through websites claiming to be for "the best florist in San Antonio" until I came across No. 9. The moment their home page loaded with their gorgeously gothic arrangement, I KNEW this was the florist for me. They don't have set arrangements to show on the site, so I called and spoke to Angel. She explained that everything is custom-made and their prior work can be seen on Instagram. Based on the vibe I got from Instagram and their website, I had no doubt that I'd be ordering from No. 9. Angel and I quickly discussed my budget, timing, the flowers she had available, and the color palette, including potential use of local foliage and flowers. The arrangement, delivered just this morning, blew me away. Even though I knew No. 9 would come through with something unconventional, Angel worked her magic and produced a heart stopper. If, like me, you can't stand carnations and baby's breath and prefer elegance, character, and heart in your flowers, don't pass up the chance to experience No. 9's arrangements.

Additionally, David, Angel, and the rest of the team always make me feel that I'm in good hands. I love how personal their attention is. You don't feel like a customer but a friend. I also live in the neighborhood where their shop is located, and we appreciate what good neighbors they have been, always willing to support local events.

Since I've been on the hunt for a Fiesta wreath, I stopped in one evening. I was greeted by Nathan, who let me know I could both buy a ready-made wreath as well as sign up for a class to make my own. There were many lovely wreaths to choose from (see pics), but I was intrigued by the idea of creating my own. Nathan offered to check in with the owner, Cynthia, about class availability for the upcoming Saturday. She said she wasn't planning to hold a class as she was quite busy preparing for both Fiesta and Easter, but that she'd be willing to set up a class. Come Saturday, I and a friend and her 9-year-old daughter had an absolutely wonderful afternoon with Cynthia and her friend Lori, who taught us how to create our own wreaths. They provide a wide array of fun materials, personalized instruction, assistance if you need it, and snacks, too! Cynthia is a kind soul and was especially nurturing, empowering and encouraging with my friend's daughter, telling her, "Your wreath, your choice," to ensure she created a wreath exactly how she wanted it. We were there for about four hours (it felt more like two) and left with three beautiful wreaths that we will happily hang. We're looking forward to coming back in June to make a 4th of July wreath. And then of course there's Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas.... If you love arts and crafts and holidays, gather up your friends and sign up for a wreath-making class. Don't have time or interest in making your own wreath? Then stop by and pick up one that's already made. I highly recommend Boutique on Basse! Such nice people and unique, festive items for sale, too.
