Dark paneled, highly polished wood and Asian accent prices blend with low lighting, neon and the ambient pulsing of low-key club music. Our waiter was... stoic. Huggy feely was not on the menu apparently. But that was fine. He was prompt and attentive and that's all we really want when we head out. Fairly extensive menu with a lot of sushi-house standards as well as their own specialty rolls (which, I guess, is a pretty standard thing to do as well). We got the ceviche for an app which was very small and pretty basic. Also got the Crunchy Crunchy Crunchy which was more interesting. Soft, spicy tuna provided a nice counterbalance to the fried seaweed. Oyster Bay roll featured a thin slice of jalapeño on top of each piece with a dollop of spicy Mayo. Not really hot (then again, I tend to like napalm on my wings) but had a pleasant and persistent kick. We have ordered takeout as well. Their Thai options seem to be fairly done. They should get an award for the most over-the-top take out bags. Overall, a nice night out. Happy with the service, ambiance and, most importantly, the food. We'll be back!

When I questioned how that was possible since I booked the room over 3 weeks in advance, I was told that the person who booked my dinner was unaware that they were in negotiations with this other party, that they hadn't received a down payment yet from them and that was why it wasn't in the computer. I was told that this was a $120/head party with open bar. I found the entire story to be sketchy and difficult to believe. Because it was so close to the time of our group's dinner, I had no choice but to allow them to set us up at a table in the middle of the restaurant. While they did a nice job setting up the table with tablecloths and making it nice, this did not meet the needs of our group at all. This is a group that meets monthly and who like to socialize with each other after dinner, change seats around and chat with each other. Being in the middle of the restaurant it was impossible for us to do this. The party room would have been perfect. The restaurant closed at 10 pm the day we were there. I left at 8pm and there was still no one in the party room, so I feel the story given to me was made up and there was no big party being held in that room on that evening. They likely did not want to use that space, perhaps staffing or some other reason. I would have preferred to be told the truth; it would have sat much better with me than the story I was told. I also did not believe that they had the possibility of a big party and it wasn't in the computer for the staff to be aware that the room would possibly be occupied that night. The food was good, although two of our group said their dish was cold. Sushi was fresh. Service was good, staff was attentive. I am definitely never going to use this restaurant again to book our group dinner, but I might go again for a lunch or possibly a dinner with just a couple of other people. I'm very disappointed in how they changed my reservation at the last minute, and the party room remained empty the entire evening.

The Bao are soft and fluffy, and the filling is flavorful and tender. I particularly recommend the Blackbird Bao, which is filled with crispy chicken, black vinegar glaze, black sesame, pickled red onion, chili mayo, coriander, and peanuts. Hands down, my absolute favorite spot in town. The inside is clean, with a cute minimalist look. Every menu item is unique and packed with flavor. My favorite bao - the blackbird, Nashville hot, patchogue, banzo, and s'mores. My favorite sides - herb slaw, crispy Brussels, sesame noodz, and five spiced fries. All of these are a must try! They have great vegetarian, vegan, gluten free, and kid friendly options available. You can tell the chef/owner is passionate about what he cooks. Every Friday to Sunday, they post new special food items which are always such a hit (be sure to check there Instagram @birdandbao or call to see what the weekly special is). I've yet to come and be disappointed - it really is that good. The staff is so friendly and welcoming, I especially appreciate seeing how much they clean the equipment/floors/tables/chairs.
