A former circus performer transforms a dilapidated movie theatre into a live performance venue, brewery, pizza joint, and training facility for the future aerialist of the world. This may sound like Karen Russell's fiction, but these are the facts of Bircus Brewing in Ludlow, Ky. Whimsy overload. I love this quirky place. We attended recitals of various bands from NKU's music school on a Sunday night. We drank Bircus beer---The Strongest Man, a Belgian dark ale (A+)---and shared a Margarita pizza (B-). As the grades reflect, the beer was excellent but the pizza was ok. It was edible, staved off hunger, and likely helped keep me from falling off my stool from Belgian-ale annihilation, but it did not send me flying. (Bircus, I know that you can up your flavor/ingredients game.) Guess what, though. I'll go back to Bircus anytime.
My hubby and I decide to a little bar hopping on Saturday and we went here first and the place is very nice and the beer is cold. I got the sampler Cerveza yum Mts Patterson Belgian beer with a hint of orange, black cherry seltzer and oatmeal beer not my favorite. You can order pizza which they had a lot of different topping goetta artichokes dried cherries. Very interesting. The only downfall for us empty nesters was the circus show staring at 2. It was very loud but the kids were having fun.
One of the best breweries in town with phenomenal staff that go above and beyond to make a memorable experience. Outdoor patio as well!
This place is like no place else I've ever been. They have all kind of circus equipment, like aerial silks, lyra, trapeze a huge ball, a wheel and many other things. They have a great selection of beer and really delicious wood-fired pizza. But, that's all. Do not come here for something fancy or highbrow or a really huge menu. Come here for the fun come here if you love the circus, come here if you love beer. We had the absolutely best experience on my daughter's birthday. Damion was our bartender and circus master. He did an incredible job of making sure that she had an awesome day. He put on a juggling show for her and taught her how to balance the peacock feather on her hands and chin . We will absolutely be back.
We came to Bircus by way of a running group meet-up. I'm so glad! I had no idea this place was so ..... cool. What a great concept - It's a circus venue primarily. As they describe it, it's circus first, supported by beer and pizza. LOVE. I can't wait to go back and take the silk classes they offer on Tuesday. As it was, we caught some great liive music (Old Time country, with some Cajun thrown in). We tried the beer (coffee stout and lime lager - both good). And the pizza. THE PIZZA! It was incredible. We had the goetta pizza with potatoes, and though it was a bit spicy, it was delicious. I loved the crust and the cheese. What a wonderful concept, venue, menu, etc. etc. Staff is super friendly, too.
This is such a unique place that combines a brewery and a circus! It's a great space to host an event, they have all the audio and video hookups! The outdoor area is also very spacious and would be perfect in the summer! The wood fired pizzas are crispy and delicious. There are lots of vegetarian friendly options and the Margherita pizza tasted so fresh with the basil and tomatoes. Be sure to order pizza once you arrive especially if it's a busy night, they have 1 wood fired oven so can take some time but so worth it! They also have an extensive rotating beer list, the Cerveza 1862 Mexican beer accompanied the pizza really well! The staff is multi-talented. The bartender who served my beer was also a trapeze and aerial artist! It was so entertaining and a great way to kick off the event. There is street parking and overflow parking available about a block away.
This is my first visit here. I came because of Burger Week and their description of their Bircus Burger sounded delicious. While waiting for our burgers I looked at their usual menu and will definitely return to try their 12" Goetta Pizza. On street parking here was very easy. No waiting line to order and staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. Their Bircus Burger was huge, and perfectly delicious. The garlic aioli was the best I've ever tasted.
What a great night out. Entertainment, beer and a circus show all in one. This is a one of a kind place with excellent service, friends company and the best show in town. The circus performers plus live band make for one heck of a night. They give out free popcorn and have wood fire pizza. The beer their own beer and even have barrel aged stuff. They also have a full bar!
Last minute plan to head across the river to check out Bircus' flea market and bloody mary breakfast. Love the setting in an old theater with an updated marquee. Walk in the front door and the bar is right in front. We walked around to the flea market first (which was somewhat underwhelming... maybe due to COVID. ) We ordered a couple of bloody's and a breakfast Margherita pizza. The bloody mary's were quite tasty. Homemade mix was flavorful. Love the garnish, pictured. Not particularly strong, though. The pizza was good, but could have used sauce though crust was perfectly crisp. Thought there was inside seating, we opted for the outside patio with heaters and a nice fire pit. Really enjoyed our visit. Will definitely return.
Cool place- definitely different. The inside was circus themed as you can imagine. They were selling vinyls the day we went. I was honestly less than impressed with the beer. But the PIZZA- let me tell you. You need to go here just for the pizza. We ordered the Margherita pizza and it was amazing. I'm picky about pizza but I was very impressed with there's. I would go back to order more.
Such a cool place! Brewery meets theater. This location is an old theater and when you walk in it you can just picture it. The large bar at the front has staff that was very friendly and inviting. Then behind the bar and down a few stairs there's an actually stage for performances. When we came in they had a play of some sort going on and the seats were packed so we sat at the bar. I just wish you could see the stage from the bar. But nonetheless, this is such a fun concept! I could hear all dialog from the bar. Now let's talk beer... they had 11 options and something for almost all beer types. I had the Big Panda which was a sour brown. It was different than anything I've had and I enjoyed it. My husband had the kolsch and he really liked it. Pints are $6 each. There's street parking along with an overflow parking lot. I wish I lived here so I could check out other shows here! Never have I heard of a brewery with theater. I love it!!
My daughter loved this. It was small enough she didn't get overwhelmed and was able to participate in some activities. The peacocks feather we brought home provoked an in home circus performance by her. She enjoyed this so much. Will consider going back again. Worth the 1 hour drive. Definitely unique.
My Mr and I have been talking about going to Bircus Brewing and what a great opportunity to visit after a yelp event. Very small joint but has so much to offer. Very cozy and intimate! We stepped in at the right time because on Thursday's is Vinyl night. So cool that they have a vintage vinyl player! I was super excited! The regulars were super friendly and encouraged us to come back and bring our own vinyls. The employees were super friendly and very knowledgeable on their product. Since it was our first time we wanted the do a flight. Here's what we tried: The Breaded Lady kolsch- Nice citrus notes and minor earthy, dried hay notes on the finish. Pretty smooth. (3.5) Miss Patterson Belgian blonde- Sweet orange with lemon zest balanced with spice notes. (3.5) Alta Via altbier- Smooth and smoky with notes of caramel, vanilla, mild chocolate, and hints of molasses. (3.75) Diving Elk (aged in Willet barrels)- massive bourbon presence both on nose and palette with notes of caramel, vanilla, cherry, roasted coffee, and cream hints. Smooth yet strong! My absolute fave was the Diving Elk aged on Willet barrels! So much goodness and tasted so much cheery in the back end! What a great experience! My Mr and I will definitely return very soon! What unique and awesome place!
Bircus is as unique, fun, & cool as its name suggests/sounds like. Personally, I am not a huge beer or IPA fan, but I am a fan of cider. Please also note though that I am not a connoisseur and know nothing about the correct tasting terms. However, the cider they have currently (August 2023) is so smooth, you'll think you're drinking the best juice with a little kick ever. The fruit notes were not overwhelming and it was very smooth. It also wasn't too carbonated/bubbly tasting. I loved it and def recommend it if you want something refreshing yet super tasty. Secondly, the pizza. Believe the hype. You will not be disappointed in the dough, cheese, or other ingredients they use. The fact that they use San Marzano tomatoes also elevates their food. Lastly, the service is top flipping notch. Kaley Rose's voice and effervescence elevates the experience at Bircus. To have someone who is so welcoming, patient, & kind takes a business from just a good experience to a memory. The other employees were equally as nice and hardworking, so it's obvious that Bircus puts thought into not only their pizza and entertainment but also their drink variety and staff. A well-rounded place. 33/10 recommend. read more

Went here to see a friend play music. Wasn't aware of everything else this location has to offer. Good variety of beer, simple bar food, and ..... What ... Circus performers. The decor inside is early American warehouse, but don't let that scare you away. The person who served us beer at the bar was a juggler. We took our seat at a table and the staff member who waited on us performed on the steel ring and silks. It was a very enjoyable evening and I would recommend you give it a try read more

Great pizza and gluten free cauliflower crust options in a wood fired pizza oven! House brewed beers on tap and a local gluten free cider too. House made ginger ale is a must. Full bar with friendly staff. The Miller family has created a warm atmosphere in a historic Ludlow theatre and given life to the neighborhood with Circus Mojo. The show was awesome and the audience was given a chance to learn some moves too. This Saturday performance is perfect for families and friends. A great afternoon date idea as well. It's cool to see the brewery area behind the stage and feel the excitement of the Miller family's hospitality through Circus Arts, Brewed beers, and hand crafted pizza. I learned that Circus Mojo also offers: summer camps, children's classes and adult classes with a complimentary beer! Love it here and will definitely be back to share our experience with family and friends! Paul was hilarious as the Ring Master. You'll laugh and feel like you made a good choice to come. read more

What an awesomely cool place! We came to see the always amazing Pirate's Creed at the Ludlow Theater location. We didn't expect there to be acrobatics, juggling, and belly dancing throughout the night! It's a truly unique experience. The beer was really good and the pizza was delicious. I'm a little in love TBH. This is a must experience kind of place! read more

Locally run business! I was invited to celebrate one of my friends birthday. She likes to support small businesses and since it's her special day she chooses Bircus. It was a great place- plenty of floor spaces and also offers outdoor sittings. As you come in, you will be treated with a huge bar full of beer. I like it that the list of beer includes the the unique name, alcohol level and the major ingredient/s. The staff were all very friendly, nice and engaging. There's a band and at the same time you will be entertained with a circus performance. What a treat! I have to mention that you have to pay $10+ $2 fee, online rsvp for guaranteed sitting or pay $5 for walk in. I think it's worth it paying extra. The pizza was so good! This place serves Neapolitan style pizza which makes it simpler, lighter and so delicious one can devour the whole 12" pizza in one meal. I highly recommend this place, I will definitely come back here again. read more
Love this place!! I've lived a block away since this place opened and I have to say, they're doing an incredible job. The beers are great, with tons of selection, and there is entertainment every single day. The tap room is comfy and well done. Paul Miller the owner basically love there and is always coming around to interact with the guests and make the experience awesome. I would highly recommend people to check this brewery out! read more

Have been to Bircus so many times. Love to bring friends and family here, plus people visiting from out of town. Such a quirky, local, superb place. Nothing else like Bircus, that's for sure. Knowledgeable, friendly, yet non-pushy staff (they might serve you while on a unicycle). Diverse, tasty beer selection they brew themselves. And then the wood-fired pizzas! Oh my, the pizzas! Some standard options and some creativity that only Bircus could come up with. If the weather is agreeable, the patio is perfect. Bircus, I love you. read more

We ordered the goetta pizza and it was fantastic. It's definitely a lighter type of pizza that is perfect for 2 people to eat... If you're really hungry, one person could probably put this down themselves. Overall it was a solid place with a pretty cool atmosphere. Our friends got some of the dessert & beer and said that everything was fantastic. Definitely recommend! read more
Tonight I was invited to a preview of the new Bircus Brewing in Ludlow,KY Sean, Brewer family runs Church St & in Chicago, so he grew up learning how to make beer. They will be offering beers that are a little different there trying to mix it up. Tonight was able to sample a few of their beers. They have several sour fruit beers & will use fresh fruit as much as possible. Very big on sourcing everything they can locally including the contractors working on the building renovation and all the supplies in the brewery. Mango sour Berliner Weiss wheat which is mild & tangy Raspberry sour Pineapple honey Weiss Cranberry Ginger Pale ale - using Blue Oven toasted malted wheat IPA 65 IBU bigger & breadier hops but not as hoppy as other greater Cincinnati IPAs Plan for 960 barrels a year selling the beer to local restaurants and at the brewery read more
The small taproom in ludlow is unsuspecting until you realize that it is part of something much bigger. I'm not sure what the timeline on becoming a regular venue is, but the theatre attached to Bircus is exactly what the name suggests... a circus show and brewery all under the same roof! How cool is that!?! The evening I visited was just to have a beer in the tap room. We ordered the "Sipping Panda" which was a sour. It was delicious, and while we only had one, I appreciated the variety in beer types that Bircus is brewing. I cannot wait to visit and get the full "Bircus" experience with circus performers and great beer. With Second Sight across the street, Ludlow sure is making a name for themselves. A small and charming town, Ludlow is a great neighborhood to visit for a chill night with some great drinks and a friendly crowd. I'm sure I'll be back! read more

What an awesome place! It's a brewery & a circus! We enjoyed the live band, delicious pizza, performances & of course wonderful company. The owner, whom is a circus clown, gave us a tour. Located in Ludlow, KY. A must see & experience! read more
Bircus is definitely doing something unique. If you haven't figured it out by their name, the brewery is circus influenced and will have tons of entertainment on a daily basis (think sweet DJs, aerial artists, fire spinning and more!) once the actual taproom is finished. Right now the taproom is housed in what will become the food portion of the brewery, so there is more to come! The owner, Paul, is a straight up clown and proud of it. He's enthusiastic and loves to share his passion for entertainment and beer. If you are lucky to stop by when he is in don't hesitate to ask him to balance a ladder or keg on his chin! I've had the pleasure of seeing this more than once, and I've also learned how to spin (plastic) plates with a beer in hand! Not only does Bircus put on a good show, but the beer is also a show-stopper. Make sure to try Atilla the Plum, which is my personal favorite. All in all, Bircus brings solid brews and quite an experience to this little river town. Don't underestimate this place, you'll keep coming back! read more

The shining jewel of Ludlow, and an all around good brewery no matter where you are. There is a good selection of regular and rotating taps with enough variety to make everyone happy. We particularly enjoyed their Bourbon barrel Scotch ale which was bit lighter in flavor in than your average bourbon barrel beer. They also brew two beers with wheat toasted at Blue Oven Bakery that were delicious in their toasty complexity, but still lighter than a beer formed with just a darker malt. The service was also great. Everybody here clearly has their act together and will answer all questions with tact and knowledge. We will definitely be back. read more
The clever name is what stood out to me, circus combined with a brewery was out of the ordinary and caught my attention. We went on a Sunday afternoon as we were swinging from place to place (see what I did there!) and enjoyed the quick, but fun visit. We loved that they were hosting a flea market afternoon and wanted to scoop it out. There were vendors set up outside in the patio seating and more located indoors behind the bar area down a few steps. The inside is truly decorated like a circus with accessories hanging from here and there, that remind you of an actual circus. The bar area was nice and the staff were great. We tried a summer beer and seltzer and both were delicious when served ice cold. As they got to room temperature (we drink slow!) the flavor changed a bit and neither of us finished our drinks. They have a nice little menu with great bar food selections which is always a plus! read more
Beer+Circus = Bircus. While there may appear to be too many breweries in the Cincinnati/Northern KY area, please reserve room at the table (or more appropriately under the big tent) for Bircus. Bircus is in an area of northern Kentucky that is growing thanks to a few new businesses (Second Sight Spirits, Folk School Coffee) that are helping to re develop Ludlow, Kentucky. Bircus' ringleader is Paul Miller, a former circus clown, and a few others and is being finally brought to life in a rather unique investment opportunity. You mean I can own a piece of a brewery? Yup. https://bircus.com/investors/ So, is the beer good? Ah, yeah. I typically grab a flight and then a pint once I have picked a winner. Most recently, I had a flight and had a pint of the Diving Elk (Belgian Dubbel). Most of the beers have circus themed or locally relevant names. There is one named after a local beauty contest winner from the 50s. Typically there are around 10 beers on tap. Keeping with the circus heritage, there is a popcorn machine with complimentary popcorn. Also pretzels are provided too. Nice! I could go on and on about this place as it has become one of our favorite places to drink good beers. The tasting room is currently in the building next to what will eventually be the tap and tasting room. I cannot wait until it is completed. Occasionally, one can go on a tour if the tasting room isn't swamped with people. read more
