Crossfit Fixx

I dropped into CrossFit Fixx (Eastside) about a year ago while I was still new to Tucson, and there…read morewas a lot to like about the experience. The location is solid, the programming was well thought out, and the coach that day was knowledgeable and encouraging. The owner was also incredibly welcoming -- genuinely kind, present, and clearly passionate about what he's building here. The workout itself included both lifting and a short jog outside, which I actually enjoy as a change of pace. However, during that run, there was a moment that made me uncomfortable as a newcomer to the gym and to the city. I overheard a couple of members joking about and mocking Asian-sounding names. It may not have been intentional, but it landed poorly for me, especially as someone of Asian descent who was literally running just behind them. I want to be clear that this didn't feel like a reflection of the owner, the coaching, or the space itself -- more so a reminder of how important community awareness and inclusivity are, particularly in group fitness environments. As someone who values feeling safe and welcome when trying a new gym, that moment ultimately kept me from returning. That said, CrossFit Fixx has a lot going for it, and I truly believe it could be a great fit for the right people. I appreciated the warmth from leadership and the quality of the workout -- and I hope the culture continues to evolve in a way that makes everyone feel seen and respected. Another important thing is I'm in love class pass & Crossfit Fixx isn't available on Class Pass but I believe they do have a drop in fee.

The ideology behind CrossFit that everyone cheers and pushes everyone to get better while trying to compete with you. No gym I'd rather be at! I have always worked on my fitness and what once worked was no longer yielding results. I came across Telos and decided to give their free class a try. I knew I had nothing to lose. Though I survived the class, I was worried that I reinjure myself by going to hard, too fast. I decided I needed professional help. I swallowed my pride and signed up right away. Started with 30 minute sessions twice a week and slowly built up to 3 times a week for 1 hour. After 8 weeks, I'm stronger, finally pain free, and I can do moves I have been unable to do in 8+ years! It still plan on joining the regular group classes but I am enjoying the personalized sessions. My trainer has my ability in mind and knows just how far I can go and pushes me a little further. I even signed my son up for the teen performance class and I love how it's given him more confidence in competitive swim and soccer. He feels stronger and when he plays against the "big kids", he no longer shys away. It can be scary trying new things but this gym is absolutely NOT intimidating. I love my hour in the gym because it's 1 hour I am dedicating to myself without distraction. I love that it's just me, my trainer, and good music. Everything else can wait. The best time to start good habits is yesterday, the next best time is today!

Last year I decided to try GTX, Gene was and still is my trainer, to help me get on a plan. Upon first entering the gym I knew I was going to love it, some of the trainers had their very well behaved dogs there and me being a dog person felt at home already! The gym was super clean and very well organized. I did not feel pressured at all to sign up for big packages or buy in to diets or other supplements, which I have tended to experience in the past. My first workout was intense yet super encouraging that I would do well with them. I began going two times a week throughout the summer and saw such incredible results that I decided to try out the paleo diet which they had recommended... Wow what a difference the two made hand in hand! They have just recently expanded and have an even larger space with even more to offer. It's been about 15 months and even now Gene will still surprise me with new workouts, new techniques, and constantly keeping me motivated and sore ;) I truly encourage you to try these guys out whether you need a starting point to get in shape, someone to push your physical abilities, or just to change it up! (they're group sessions are soooo much fun and really challenge you)

Not only are the people cool but the trainers are so experienced that I know I won't hurt myself. They push me but also tell me to take care of myself. I am so grateful that you have created this amazing space and community!
