Management takes no ownership and makes excuses. They claim to regularly maintain and clean the spas and saunas. However I dropped my keys under the sauna bench and I observed black sludge in between the cracks and black mold on This is unacceptable for a club. It's unhygienic and a health hazard. Management needs to get it together.

Member since 2007. Pros…read more- The gym area is generally clean. Many members wipe down machines after use, which helps keep the equipment in good condition. - Membership dues are reasonable. - The equipment is well‑spaced, and there are plenty of machines available. - There are numerous cardio machines, and I've never had to wait for one. - Both members and employees are friendly. Cons - The opening hours are limited: 5 a.m. on weekdays and 8 a.m. on weekends. Earlier hours (around 4 a.m. on weekdays and 6 a.m. on weekends) would be much more convenient. - The tile grout in the bathroom and shower areas needs a deep cleaning. - Communication with one of the janitorial staff is difficult due to language barriers. - The TVs occasionally play inappropriate music video content, which isn't ideal for a gym environment.

Protocol Strength and Conditioning is unlike any gym I've ever experienced. It's small, quaint, and…read morenot at all intimidating -- you get personal attention from knowledgeable coaches who make you feel seen and supported from day one. The welcoming atmosphere is filled with amazing people who are encouraging, fun, and friendly, which makes every class something to look forward to. What sets Protocol apart is their focus on the long game. It's never about just lifting heavier -- it's about form first, then strength. They know when to push you up in weight, when to tell you to rest, and how to keep you injury-free while still challenging yourself. The programming constantly changes, so even on the hardest days when you think you're "dying," you leave feeling powerful, energized, and accomplished. Since starting in April 2025, my strength has increased dramatically. I went from not being able to do a Turkish Get-Up without any weight to now moving 22 lbs with control. My mobility has improved, I've started to see muscle definition in my arms and legs, and even while nursing a neck injury, I've been able to keep training safely with modifications. I used to stop training all together when I was in pain, yet I've kept going and with home care and modifications it's finally decreasing The personal attention and knowledge here are priceless. It's not about bulking up -- it's about building strength and mobility that lasts a lifetime. Protocol encourages you to stay in tune with your body, modify when you need to, yet keep striving higher. They also provide tools, 1:1 guidance, and recovery support so you can track your progress and protect yourself along the way. Classes are never boring, which keeps me engaged (and I actually hate when I have to miss one!). This is the first gym membership I've ever had where I don't dread daily activities the next day -- instead, I feel and see the changes, and I'm proud to keep showing up for myself. If I had to sum it up in three words: Impactful. Encouraging. Priceless. 100% recommend -- because I refuse to give up on me.

I needed someone who could help me heal without all that "bro" crap you see in corporate gyms. As I was training in jiujitsu, I noticed an intense guy training a mixed crowd in the adjoining space. I watched him interact with his students. They were using training techniques that I had never seen before. They also had bars and standard weights, but they were being used with strict attention to form and technique. The result was impressive. I decided to give it a try. I met the owner, Jerry Trubman, for a one-on-one session to see what he could do for me. He put me through some mobility tests and assessed my limitations BEFORE ever thinking about testing my strength. He explained his philosophy and approach to strength training. I was impressed with his knowledge and patience. Mostly, I was impressed that, despite his extensive training certifications (not those bullshit weekend cert classes), he was humble and on a righteous path of honing his craft. That was three years ago. Jerry has increased my strength and performance in every category. He reigned me in to avoid injuries. He showed me new ways to train that did not require grinding and lifting to failure. And when I injured myself playing basketball, he helped me recover quickly. Jerry now trains both myself and my 14 year old son. That's right. I trust this guy with training my own son (who just so happens to be surpassing me in height, weight and, soon, strength). I have sent my clients to him. I have sent my friends to him. He doesn't need any more positive press. His gym hosts world record holders and has won national competitions. Still, he doesn't boast. He studies his craft. He is conscientious and compassionate with students of ALL levels. He does not yell at you or talk down to you. He meets you at your current level and inspires you to reach for new goals. In my opinion, there is no better trainer. Enough said.

This welcoming environment, however, is in spite of, not because of, its owner, who uses his brand's social media account to mock people for, among other things, having pronouns in their bio, and when confronted on this, will delete comments critical of those actions. https://www.instagram.com/p/DYfR3r9yPIv/ As such, it becomes difficult to recommend Tucson Strength as a welcoming place if you are someone who expects to have your gender identity respected, as the owner believes "pronouns are a social construct" that he "does not buy into" and that "there are [only] two genders" He is obviously welcome to these opinions, in the same way I am welcome to take my business elsewhere, while letting others know they may not feel welcome in this space. It is truly disappointing that the owner of a gym with a "Don't be an asshole" sign cannot live up to that most basic of principles. All of that said, I cannot in good conscience give a review less than three stars, as at the end of the day it has the makings of a potentially fantastic gym that's *actually* a welcoming place for *anyone*, and I have incredibly fond memories of my time there. It was with great disappointment that I canceled my membership, but I simply no longer felt welcome at a place owned by an online bully, who claims everyone is welcome in his space, while at the same time using his public business account to hunt down and mock those who think differently than him.

This place is no f*cking joke. First off, this is an old-school strength gym, and I mean that in the best way possible. It's not bougie, it's not aesthetic-driven, and it's definitely not trying to be a trendy Instagram gym. It's gritty, it's real, and it's built for people who actually want to get stronger. They've got everythinggggg!Olympic lifting, strongman training, personal training, group classes, nutrition coaching... even a calisthenics coach (which is honestly rare to find). Whether you're a beginner wanting to level up or someone who's already deep in fitness and feels like you've outgrown franchise gyms... this is where you go to get humbled REAL quick. And I love that. The tour alone sold me. Front desk was super welcoming, and the owner was already on it with communication before we even walked in. You can tell this place runs on passion and community, not flashy marketing. Inside? Old-school equipment (my personal favorite &way more effective than a lot of the newer stuff IMO). Outside? A full-on training setup with turf, tires, and space to actually move. There's also indoor turf, kettlebells, and room to train however you want. This is a no-BS, get-it-done gym. One of my favorite parts though? The people. You've got folks in their 70s and 80s lifting alongside everyone else and that's powerful. As a woman in my 40s, that kind of environment hits different. Strength training isn't optional, it's essential & this is the kind of place where you do it right. Also love that they have options for everyone: * Memberships * Personal training * Group classes (super affordable around $20/class once you're cleared) * Even drop-in options for travelers It's flexible, which you don't always see in more serious gyms. And honestly... if you're the person who's always finishing first in group classes and not really getting pushed anymore? Come here. You will be challenged. In the best way. This place feels like a local secret , very word-of-mouth, very "if you know, you know." Not overcrowded (especially midday), dedicated community, and zero fluff. Soooo yeah... I'm hooked. If you're serious about getting stronger -- not just sweating, but actually building strength & this might be the gym in Tucson.
