Thinking back on the handful of therapeutiuc appointments I have had, several years ago, I can…read morehonestly say I've never really had a *bad* massage. I mean, if someone is going to rub my knotty, gnarly back for an hour, how can I complain? A friend with recent bad massage luck (BML), however, has made me a little cautious--make that borderline afraid--about finding qualified massage practitioners. After telling me about her massage experiences with an incompetent, a weirdo (speaking tongues at her abdomen--I kid you not), and a pervert, I figure I'm good to go if I can find a wall edge to use on my trigger points. Fast forward to 2006 when I injured my neck in a scary accident: I jerked my head too quickly when looking for the time display on my alarm clock in the middle of the night. I told myself the neck pain would go away, as most injuries do. I kept telling myself that. Two weeks later I had an appointment with my naturopath about an unrelated matter. I must have been rubbing my neck because she asked me about it. I told her about the horrible nighttime accident I had, and admitted that yes, I was in a bit of pain. She asked if I were interested in massage. Gulp. Massage? What if I get...BML? I decided I would give massage a try. My doc gave me Lori Nelson's name and I contacted her. She rang me back, we set up an appointment, and... ...she was GREAT! Lori is certified in Hellerwork therapy, a deep tissue mode of treatment that I believe involves fascia manipulation to help with body realignment. The practice also includes verbal interaction, and Lori has a very professional, friendly, non-weird manner that makes the conversation flow quite easily. Not only did she help me with my neck, but she also helped fix my overly tilted pelvis and a strained quadratus lumborum. Exciting! (Actually, for me it really was.) Another exciting piece of information? Lori accepted my insurance plan. As long as Lori is around, I am convinced I will never have to worry about BML again.

I initially began seeing Dina to work on family issues that were negatively affecting my life. However, as our sessions progressed the skill set she taught me, the issues she helped me work through, and the revelations that then transpired not only transformed the relationship I have with my family but beyond my wildest dreams fundamentally and positively transformed my whole life. With the help of Dina, I have learned how to connect with, listen to, and follow my own wisdom. I have learned that my intuition knows exactly what it needs to know, when it needs and can know things in our ever changing and shifting world. I have learned how to really love, accept, and take care of myself. I have learned how to not only appreciate but take comfort in the unknowns in life that allow for flexibility and endless possibilities. I have referred countless friends to Dina, all of which sing very similar praises. Dina is exceptional.

What I can speak to are the few sessions I met with Dina for. In short, Dina is an incredible talent! In the first "getting to know you" session, Dina helped me uncover some serious points of contention I'd been harboring from my youth, through which I was allowing myself to keep my emotional breaks depressed. Later I had the great pleasure of meeting with her for a session with her husband, also an incredibly talented, insightful and capable therapist. Not all therapists/counsellors are created or developed equally....Dina gets my highest recommendation!

She was able to make me feel totally relaxed so that I was able to follow her guidance easily. The sessions were not only relaxing, which helped greatly with general stress levels, but working with her allowed me to be myself, to let go and to trust that she was taking me through a transformation or shift. When each of the sessions were finished, I felt a clear sense of that shift and was able to go about my day, free of the emotions that were otherwise getting in the way. Very liberating! With confidence, I highly recommend working with Sage. She is empathetic, compassionate, and gentle but also thorough in getting to the heart of the matter and helping work through the issues at hand.

As someone who believes in regular visits to a therapist for a lifelong learning journey, I've had more than my share of experience with therapists and I can wholeheartedly say that she's one of the best I've ever seen. In just a few short visits, we got to the root of the issue I was experiencing, brought in family members who were part of the issue, worked through it and was on my way down the path of life. Years later, I can say that the concepts we worked on and the knowlege she helped me find still not only rings true, but it helps me every day. I have also recommended Brena to other friends and their experiences have been consistantly positive as well. She offers a wide range of services including EMDR and CBT, her office is relaxing and welcoming and her skill level at everything she offers is clearly top notch.

I had been to numerous therapists and none of them could help me in the way EMDR helped me. I went in with an open mind, and was a bit skeptical at first. I would HIGHLY recommend this for anyone who have tried traditional therapy and have been unhappy with the results.

One thing that I definitely noticed is that there was very little chit chat during the massage. Just a little brief chit chat here and there. I appreciated that not only because Joe wasn't too chatty (he and I did chat a little bit here and there, though, which was nice), but because I have received massage from over 70 massage therapists in the Seattle area over the past 20 years, and there are very few therapists that I feel comfortable enough with during the FIRST session to not feel at all compelled to chat with the therapist quite a bit during my massage. I usually want to know who is massaging me! I get curious about the person!! Haha. I can honestly say I've never received a massage quite like the massage that I received today from Joe. I enjoyed some interesting stretches, some neck work that felt very needed, and some great mid-to-low-back bodywork. Part of my Deep Lomi Style massage was done with me positioned side-lying - my favorite position in which to receive massage. I had checked in advance with Joe via e-mail about his safety procedures, and they're sound. He was able to leave the window open (at my request) during my massage, and he had an air purifier going also. He wore a mask for the entire duration of the intake, the massage, and the check-out. The music was soft, not too loud or intrusive, and it provided a lovely background noise. The lighting was perfect for me, I prefer the lighting to be slightly darker in the massage room since it's more relaxing for me that way. Joe checked in about the level of pressure, and he was very open and responsive to my feedback - which he strongly encouraged me to give - about level of pressure, position of my body and head on the table, preference for bolstering, any areas to avoid or go lightly on, type of oil used, and anything else that made the massage experience truly special. I felt that Joe went above and beyond to make sure that I felt cared for and attended to. Usually when I review a massage therapist here on yelp, I explain that I graduated from Port Townsend School of Massage in 2016 - however, I have never practiced massage professionally, since my life ended up going in a different direction at that time. So, I know a bit more about massage therapy than someone who doesn't have this particular educational background. I enjoyed my massage with Touch Factor Massage and Bodywork, I would receive massage from Joe again, and I would highly recommend this business to anyone who wants a truly unique and special massage experience.
