My health anxiety means that I think any weird symptoms or bodily sensations that I have are signs of some awful thing. It also makes me skeptical of both traditional and alternative medicine. So it's difficult to say 'Acupuncture is amazing' or why that's so, but the fact is my body seems to be super responsive to it. Very simply, it's taught me to experience/endure strange sensations with less anxiety. Super valuable for anyone with health anxiety!! I often feel woozy and sleepy afterward, somewhat emotionally depleted the next day, then really good the day after that. For me the mental/emotional effects have been cumulative. Physical effects can be almost instant, which is super weird. If I tell Gillian I have foot pain, GI issues, etc, after one or two treatments focusing on that thing, it will feel much better.
