My artist was amazing! He made sure the colors I wanted were correct as well as the placement. It took a bit to get going but so worth it to have everything go right the first time. My swelling is already down enough to see the fading in my tattoo and it is perfect. My tattoo holds a lot of meaning for me and the date ended up having the same strong meaning. I was comfortable and they made sure of it. Know what you want when you go in and everything will be smooth. If you go in for a tattoo just to have a tattoo you're not going to have a good time any place you go. Know what you want even if it's just in your mind, no drawing. It's going to hurt so don't get one if you have no pain tolerance. Be prepared to wait and don't rush the artist because you didn't plan your time accordingly. This wasn't my first tattoo but it was my first here and now my hubs wants one. Go and enjoy this, that's how you should go about it.

Let's start this one off with a story. I met Chico before I turned eighteen; my best friend was…read moregetting his third tat done and I tagged along out of sheer curiosity. I expected some punk-rock dude with gauged ears and strange piercings and tattoos EVERYWHERE in a seedy, shady shop tucked away in some corner of the boonies. I did not get what I expected at all. The shop is AWESOME and pristine as all get out. There's tattoo themed artwork all over the place; statues in glass cases of hot girls getting ink and Black Crowes paraphernalia everywhere (Chico's a huge fan.) And pirate stuff. There's lots of that all over. I was impressed. Clean white tile floors, comfy sitting area, body mod mags; it was cool to little ol' sheltered me. Then there's Chico himself. Personable, friendly, and he doesn't eff around. If something's going to look awful, he's going to tell you. This guy will take you to school and you'll be darn grateful he did. He may run a tight ship but he is the most laid-back person I know. Wicked sense of humor and handsome as heck (a winning combo if I do say so myself.) I may be a little biased though; I dig the biker-pirate-rockstar look. :) I was smitten from the get-go and vowed I would always go to him for ink. Well, I'm an idiot who succumbed to peer pressure while in college. I wanted an ink painting style tattoo of cherry blossoms on my rib cage. The tattoo guy I went to free handed my tat after looking at a picture of what I wanted done. It came out looking like a diagram of cancer polyps. When I came back from school, I showed Chico the mess I had gotten myself into. Wincing, he said he'd fix me (the tattoo was THAT bad.) And he did. And praise the Gods of indelible ink, he made the cancer polyps look like flowers and they are beautiful! If you go to his shop, he's got a billion photo albums of tattoos he's done, cover ups he's done, and tattoos he's fixed. I think I've gained notoriety for having had the most miraculous tattoo transformation. At least, I like to think so...seriously. Cancer polyps to flowers. So other than being tall, dark, handsome, and brilliant, Chico is a fantastic artist. I trust NO ONE other than him to satiate my cravings for ink and pain because I know without a doubt I will never be disappointed in his work or abilities. I have since added two koi to my tattoo collection, both relatively large and the details are incredible. Chico is supremely accommodating and very willing to work with you so you get the tattoo that you want. No matter how big of a pain you are (and I am a HUGE pain in his behind) you will never be made to feel like you're an inconvenience. Be prepared to hear things you don't want to hear; it bears repeating that Chico won't sugar coat anything. Which is something you should want in a tattoo artist; Chico won't do something just to make a buck. He's a great guy and incredibly trustworthy and you should definitely check him out before heading down to South Street. No offense, guys.
