We had a great afternoon at Billy Jack's, right on the river. The food was delicious, fried chicken, fried shrimp, fried flounder, and lots of good sides and sauces, yum. Matthew, one of our servers, was an added blessing to our afternoon, for all the help he gave us, and even walked out and took some pictures of us at the river. MW read more

All I can say is awesome. Great service, very good food. Good selection and pressures were fair

This place is the real deal!!! Food is amazing and the only negative I have to say is lines (get there early) and seating limited.

Food is great! Veggies are great, too. Portions are generous. My only recommendations are to add key lime pie to the dessert menu & make the beverage cups larger so you don't have to refill repeatedly. read more

I can't say enough positive things about Billy Jacks! We started with the fish dip and had the brisket sandwich with coleslaw and turkey Rueben with fries, followed by an Old Fashioned. Everything was fresh and tasty! We enjoyed our dinner in the beautiful stone patio watching dolphins swim out in the St. John's. read more

Been to Billy Jacks many times and never had a bad experience. The Shrimp Basket, toasted Cuban sandwich and Chef's salad with egg and shrimp are all great. read more

This BBQ place is the real deal. The meat is always tender, juicy, and full of flavor -- you can tell it's smoked low and slow with care. The sides are just as good, and the portions are generous. Staff is very friendly and the view from the outside eating area is an added plus. read more

This is my families new favorite restaurant! We came in once and saw the specials and knew we needed to come back Monday for bbq shrimp and grits with collard greens. We did and were not disappointed. Absolutely delicious! We also had the pimento cheese dip and smoked fish dip and they were both great! We saw banana pudding and could not resist. Some of the best banana pudding I have had! We sat at the bar with crystal as the bartender and she is fabulous. The ambiance is amazing especially next to the water at sunset it is like a dream. read more

My husband and I decided to try out Billy Jack's, which opened up last week in our neighborhood. With only two seafood restaurants nearby, this place is a nice addition to the area. The food we ordered was fantastic, and the portions were generous. The atmosphere was laid back, and the service was quick. I had turkey with potato salad and collard greens. I loved the collard greens, and that says a lot! Until now, I only liked my own collard greens. My husband had the pulled pork and he was equally impressed with how good the food was. I couldn't really ask for a better BBQ meal, except maybe to have some salt and pepper on the tables. read more

While camping nearby we decided to try Billy Jacks. Needless to say we have dined there several times since. Absolutely one of the best places to dine in Jacksonville! We tried a variety of dishes and were never disappointed. Not only is the food superb but the entire staff is helpful, friendly , they appear to enjoy working together. Pulley is the manager and when he is not going to tables and speaking to guests to see if they are enjoying the food, he is assisting the staff with any task needed. The atmosphere at Billy Jacks can at times bustle with activity yet one still feels relaxed due to the staffs upbeat style of making everyone know they are glad we are there. Places like Billy Jacks are few and far between . I hope the locals keep supporting it for a long time. On another note we think Pulley and all the staff deserve a big raise!!!! Ordered flounder and shrimp it was surprisingly great for a bbq restaurant, my only "negative" is the kids meal shrimp basket also use really large shrimp so my son had some difficulty, but literally only thing I can dig up for a negative which it really isn't. The fried okra stole the show though it was so damn good I've been craving it every since but I believe it was a special so hopefully they can offer on daily basis so I don't drive out there and they not have any. Worth the drive! read more

I was going to try the bbq, but when I walked in, I was talking to a repeat customer and he said he comes for the fried chicken special every Sunday (but they have fried chicken every day). So, we had the fried chicken with mac & cheese, collards, and creamed peas and it was all delicious!!! We also ordered a side of gravy, but I was not a fan because the gravy has a smoked flavor to it. That is just not my preference, so I didn't eat it and it didn't take away how good the chicken was. They have a simple bar, beer and wine. You order your food when you walk in and grab a table. The food comes out pretty quickly. We took the ferry over and walked to the restaurant since it's right next to the ferry. It was a beautiful day so we sat outside near the water. It's been a few days since we went and now I'm dreaming about that fried chicken and peas lol! Go give them a try. We will be back for sure! read more

Food, service and ambiance was amazing. As it was our first time, we were not aware you needed to go inside to order your food. We sat on the porch for quite some time waiting on a server, then I finally asked someone. A sign on the porch stating to order inside would have helped. read more

The special for Sunday was fried chicken which I did not expect for a place known for their BBQ but hey, we gave it a try. Not surprised and very well pleased with both the flavor and crispy presentation. read more

Decided to drive up from Jax Beach to try a different BBQ spot and Billy Jack's did NOT disappoint! The parking lot was packed when we arrived so we were worried we may have quite a wait but thankfully that assumption proved wrong. We were welcomed in and able to order at the counter within about 5 minutes. We got our drinks and sauces and headed outside to the patio to enjoy the fresh air and the water view. My son had fun exploring the little beach area and watching the passing ships until the food arrived. My Cuban sandwich was excellent. The bread was toasty, pickles were crispy and the meat was moist. I did end up adding extra mustard sauce to my sandwich, but personally I can never have too much mustard! The black eyed peas were very good and not overcooked or mushy and they can sometimes be. My son ordered the pulled pork sandwich and he loved it. We had plenty leftover for 2 more meals which is nice. But I do wish they had one on the kids menu so we didn't have to get the adult version for him. Excellent BBQ choice to add to our rotation! read more

Wanted some bbq so we gave it a chance, won't be going back. I had Brisket & ribs, wife had brisket & sausage. The brisket was very fatty as in half the meat volume. Ribs were also fatty and undercooked. Sausage was fatty & nasty, had not been cooked long enough for the fat to render and had a slimy texture. Overall the food had little flavor as did the sauces, nothing there to wake up the meal, just blaahhh. The potato salad was pure mustard flavor and could have used some of the sweet pickles they put onto the plate. The corn bread was literally refrigerator cold and had no butter or honey, a throw away. Overall was not a decent meal for the price, will just keep driving the next time read more

Definitely avoid this place so I don't have to wait in a long ass line to enjoy it again. Hands down this is the best bbq in Jacksonville ! The staff were great and the view was spectacular. In the words of Arnold - I will be back ! read more

Great food, service and ambiance! Love that it is right next to the St Johns River Ferry.

If you heard of Valley Smoke, Market 32 and Billy Jacks BBQ all being owned by the same company you're right but that's all they have in common. I've been waiting for two years for this place to open and I was very disappointed in the way the business is run to the quality and lack of flavor of their food. I thought we were finally getting a top notch restaurant like Valley Smoke on our side of town but I was very disappointed. read more

Drove out today to give this place A try. Regularly eat at all the sister restaurants and like them all. The restaurant was very nice inside and great location on the river. Customer service was very good. Rib and sausage combo was good. Brisket was very good. 2 people had pulled pork sandwiches and it was just ok as it had large pieces of fat and pork was a little dry. Fried shrimp and crinkle cut fries were fantastic. When it cools off the outside deck will be a great place to eat with a river view. read more

My new BBQ restaurant. Pulled pork was meaty and freshly pulled, not wet and waiting. You can tell good BBQ by collard greens too and they were amazing. I will be returning. Great menu selections and service. The place was exceptionally clean, my husband said the men's restroom was one of the cleanest he's ever seen (besides ours). Don't know why someone previously complained, every time we've been there it's been spotless. And it's so nice to sit outside and watch the boat traffic. What we felt was 'an above and beyond excellent service' was when we saw a boat pull up and a server take a carry out order up to the boat. What service! read more

I want this place to succeed but.... First, kudos to redoing a dive bar to a very inviting place with great views of the St. John's River. Second, the staff is great - some of the friendliest and nicest I have found in the area. I only wish the same attention would have been given to the meal preparation. I've had three bbq meals there - all have been overcooked and over salted resulting in dry and tough meat. Not what good bbq should be. It does not begin to compare to other places in the region. Bottom line the meals have been mediocre at best. read more
