My keypad lock ran out of batteries and unfortunately when I was changing it out, the battery connector broke. I removed the lock and my dad took it to Bill's for me so they could attempt to fix it. They were able to soldier the connector back together, saving me several hundreds of dollars that it would have cost for them to come out and replace it. Not only that but it was a relatively inexpensive fix (about $30). I will definitely use Bill's again. They are friendly, competent, and looking to help you save money, which I always appreciate. My car's ignition and locks were replaced so I received new keys from my mechanic that weren't programmed. They were able to get my previous set of keys working so I didn't even need the new ones. BAIT & SWITCH SCAM ! IF I COULD GIVE NEGATIVE STARS - THIS PLACE DESERVES FIVE NEGATIVE STARS !!! I'm visiting Albuquerque, NM working the Balloon Fiesta ... I went to this business to have some keys cut & a battery replaced in my key Fob which the owner, Bill, did himself. I needed keys cut for my vehicle & he looked around & said they're on order & will be here in 2 wks & call before to be sure ... I asked how much are they & he said $4.95 so I waited the two weeks & called. I explained to the young man & he put me on hold for 20 minutes then returned & said he had 2 ... but I was told by owner that 3 were on order & I said great cuz that's what I need ! When I went back, I brought one of the keys that was cut previously & didn't work as well as another fob for battery. It took 3 people & another 20min to "find" the keys (which there were in fact 3 like the owner said) ... The bad key was re-cut (still doesn't work), the battery replaced & the 3 new vehicle keys cut which took 2 people & another 25 minutes. When they rang it up it was over $150 !!! I said WHAT ?!?! And the young man said the 3 new vehicle keys were $50 each ... I explained that the owner told me $4.95 & another guy came out the back & was very rude saying I'm not gonna haggle with you - if you don't want them then don't get them & he took the keys & walked away - again I said that's not what the owner told me & I surely wouldn't have waited 2 wks for them to come in & drive all the way over here & have them cut if I didn't want them but this is wrong ! I said pls ring up the battery for me to pay & he said "no, have a nice day" in a very condescending tone ... I asked to see the owner & this man again said "have a nice day" & turned & walked out !!! I suspect the owner wasn't there & they are running this little scam without his knowledge - otherwise if the owner knows then it's worse than a few rouge employees ! The only good thing from my rough week was finding Bill's lock & key and receiving EXCELLENT Service from Mr Bill and his crew. My ignition cylinder was broken due to theft attempt. The dealership took two days just to give me an outrageously overpriced estimate whereas Bill's dispatcher Katrina told me the precise service costs right away over the phone. We had hired this company many times, and they had been reliable. Over the course of time we lost a master key. I called and talked to a girl that told me I needed to do is come in and show that I had ownership of the property. I took the time to drive all the way to this business and in person not sure if it was the same gal told me that they could not do anything unless I provided a letter on Company letterhead. I told her that I did not have that because I am the personal owner and she told me that she needed a letter with my information on it, signed by somebody else. Sounds like duck a little fishy to me... Needless to say, they wouldn't help me and I wasted time and money going there. I would never recommend them. read more

Purchased a new key fob on the web and visited Bill's to get it programmed. Was told it would cost $100 for this service. The tech spent 45 minutes screwing around until he discovered he had the wrong equipment, then got the right equipment and determined the fob was not the correct version for my vehicle and charged me $50!!!!!! OUTRAGE!!! Later determined the fob was indeed the correct one and so I basically paid for complete incompetence. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY ON THIS BUSINESS. read more

On or about February 17, 2023 I went to Bill's Lock and Key to have two (2) keys made for a commercial building so we would have a spare set. When I went to use the keys on or about May 15, 2023 I found that one of the keys did not work. I returned to Bill's Lock and Key on May 16, 2023 with the original keys to the building, showed them that one of the keys was not cut properly. They claimed that they did not make the keys, that I needed to return with the receipt. On Thursday, May 18, 2023 I returned with the receipt for $17.78 which I printed from my Discover CC account. Again they refused to correct the problem and stated if I wanted the key re-cut, I had to pay. I have no desire to return to a business with such horrible customer service. read more

Called to get a key cut and programmed for my truck. Was told over the phone that I would need to be there before 4pm to have the key programmed. Drove an hour (I don't live in Albuquerque) to get there. Was 3:45pm when I walked into the shop. The employee told me that they don't program keys that late in the day. I told him that I had called and was told to be there before 4:00pm. He suggested I come back another day but earlier in the day. I drove my truck an hour to get there!!! Wasted time and gas for nothing. So disappointed. I will find a locksmith closer to where I live to have the key cut and programmed. read more

I was wearing a mask as folks during a pandemic and was ignored by about six employees. They helped customers that came in after me while I was standing at the counter. Finally some asked he if I had been help. I said, "No and you've helped other customers that came in after me". I was told next time I should ask for help. Blaming the customers must be their go to argument. Typically a customer standing at the counter would be an indication that they are there to spend money. Then I paid with a credit card and was asked for ID while other customers doing the same were not. No apology offered. I'll let you do the math from here. read more

Horrible! They came highly recommended as a locksmith to cut my Ford key and program it. After 2 hours of not being able to program the key to recognize the vehicle, the technician Eric and Katrina said they were 100% sure it was a PCM (computer module) problem based on error codes and I need a mechanic to fix it to get key to work (PCM's are $800 + labor). So I took it to a mechanic, who after charging me to diagnose the issue, said it has nothing to do with a PCM, but might be a key problem, and recommended I take it directly to Ford. So I took it to Ford, who said Bill's didn't have the right software to program it. Works fine now because Ford had the right software to program it, but I'm out $300 because I trusted Bill's expertise. When I asked the manager to make it right, she just yelled louder and louder, asserting THEY HAVE! the current software, and then hung up on me. If they had the right software, why could they not get my key to recognize the vehicle? And why am I out $300 to get one FORD key cut and programmed at Bill's? I've been to Bill's Lock and Key a couple of times now, once to buy a couple of things and then also to have a duplicate key made for my car. It's a newer car with a transponder key so the price tag on a duplicate can be alarming... Bill's had to order the key in but quoted a good price so I went with them. When they got the new key in, they discovered that there'd been a mix-up with the ordering and they'd actually ordered in the wrong key, but they had the correct one in stock. The correct one should have actually cost a bit more but they waived the difference, so I guess I lucked out a bit. They had the new key cut and programmed into my car very quickly, and it works just fine now. They have a pretty big staff, so I never had to wait long to talk to a locksmith. As for the other visit, I needed a padlock and wanted to get something better than a $15 Wal-Mart Master lock. They have a good range of padlocks from Abus on a rack and I believe they also stock American Padlock behind the counter. The prices were reasonable, and they also had a lot of accessories to match - hasps, door hardware, and some industrial-duty key reels. Somehow it took to my third visit to notice that they sell safes as well... there's quite a few on display. They're also a dealer for some high-security brands if you have something you seriously want to lock up - I believe I saw a mul-t-lock display for example. read more

These guys are excellent! I hired them recently to re-key a bunch of locks and install a keypad for the front door. It was easy to schedule the initial appointment for a quote, and when Eric showed up I knew I was in good hands. He answered all of my millions of questions, and gave me the advice that I needed on how best to organize the locks in my new location. It was great to have someone so knowledgable and friendly to guide me through the process, because, honestly, I had no idea how to best handle the lock situation at this new location. The install was yesterday, and it was an incredibly positive experience. Eric showed up on time, and everything was installed to perfection. I really like that the person that gives the estimate is the same one who does the job. Eric took 100% responsibility for the whole thing and it was nice to just have that one point person. He did a great job explaining how the new locks worked, and had all of the multiple keys and key copies organized perfectly. I could not have been happier with this entire process! Grade A customer service, and Grade A competence. Highly recommend them! P.S. I also stopped by their location to get some key copies made and the staff at the store was exceptionally nice as well. They even coordinated it so that Eric would just bring the extra keys to the job the next day, which saved me an extra trip. Nice folks! read more

As far as making physical keys these guys are tops. I needed a couple duplicates for an old dead bolt lock on my grandparent's cottage, built in 1928. I remember this lock in the 60's, but it could be original to the cottage. Lock Smiths (well Lowes, maybe someone else) I went to early on didn't have any idea. Bill's was able to match key and duplicate. I took procession of my little brothers 1963 Hillman Convertible (my last name is Hillman, but as far I know I am not related to car manufacturer or the Hillman bolt and nut manufacturer), this is older English manufacture. Bill's was able to make duplicates of both the ignition and trunk keys. But see my next review below. read more

See my other review above. I have been working on my DIL's 2004 Honda CR-V, and somehow lost the key and FOB on a keychain. Bill's could make a duplicate key (it has a microchip in the head of the key that needs to be paired with the vehicle), their price was similar to others. However I also needed the FOB, or remote that locks/unlocks the doors, the rear window hatch, and panic button. I called and they said their price was north of $300, I think $360. I didn't think that was right, did they think I wanted something else? I looked up remotes on Amazon, one remote for $20, two for $30, one day free shipping. So while at Bill's to get the key duplicated, I saw a display for many different brands of remotes. So I asked about a remote for the 2004 Honda. Same response as over the phone, $360 and they would have to order it AND program it. So asked to speak to a manager. A lady came out and introduced her self. I asked why are the remotes so expensive when you can get them on Amazon less than 1/20 the price? She lit into me about her overhead, and Amazon has none (very debatable, they have huge warehouses (build and run), employees too, shipping one or two at a time, several more layers of management, it's not like Amazon has no overhead, its just they are more efficient than you) Back in the day, small companies were often more efficient than large companies, they say that about the Gov't too. I asked her about her/Bill's job, to be customer friendly, get the job done, usually as cheaply as possible for the customer. Not a Bill's. She also mentioned about having to program the remote to the vehicle, I said I have had cars in the past that had that procedure in the owners manual. Looking now the owner's manual does say that programing remote to your car has to be done by the dealer, yet a quick internet search found https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g6KJ1WGVk_Y to show how to program the remotes, not too complicated but a little tedious. Also https://www.remotesandkeys.com has (3rd party and original Honda) remotes, 3rd party twice as expensive as Amazon, and also programming instructions written out. I told her she could order them from Amazon for $15 and sell them for $100. I think Bill's also lost my business to cut and program the ignition key too, I didn't have it done then as NOW they say they have to have the vehicle, which at the moment is up on blocks, and I found a cheaper place, just a little less convenient. read more

Other employees came to the counter to take care of new customers who came in right after me. Everyone seemed to be busy, not waiting around, yet there was no wait for the customers.
