Like most people, I had been putting off the replacement of my roof for the last 5 years. Sick and…read moretired of patching small leaks and knowing that I wanted solar panels installed in the new year, I decided it was time to look for a roofer. I did the typical google searches but found that most of the time, I was getting those that pay to pop up with their phone number from large roofing companies. With every one of those that I requested a quote, I got a computer automated response and quote most often delayed and with spam, and with little to no talking to anyone. Prices were all over the place as well as the descriptions of materials and service to be performed. I decided to search in a local Lakewood Facebook group where I found many suggestions and saw Harrold's name repeated often. I called Harrold one morning where he picked up the phone and had a friendly initial conversation. He told me he lived in my community and was literally around the corner. He provided addresses as referrals and within 2 hours, I had an estimate that was detailed and among the most competitive in pricing. I called Harold back to discuss the materials in detail which were all top of the line. He gave me the best and shortest window of availability and promised to have it complete in 3-4 days. We hired Harrold and had an excellent experience with Harold and his very hard working team. The were efficient, they were fast, did a great job and clean up all of the mess left behind! It felt good to give business to a local business instead of those larger roofing companies. Harold was professional, super friendly, prompt, communicated well, and did an incredible job with our complete tear and replace roof project. We even hired him to replace our facia and improve our porch. We love the new look of our home as it just looks like we remodeled everything but all we did was replace our roof. We get lots of compliments and I will continue to recommended Harrold. He is just as genuine and likable as they come!

Firstly, Craig and Tim were both great to work with. I felt comfortable with both of them from the start. I am a meticulous DIYer, and have high expectations for the work on my house. I also wanted to do some pieces of the projects myself to save some money. They worked around my schedule, and we were able to do everything we wanted. We asked to have regular meetings to connect about plans and progress and to go over any work. Whenever there was something we wanted fixed, they were quick to take action and made things right. They were also always happy to take a call or answer a text, and they kept us in the loop every step of the way. Because I'm used to doing it all myself, and they were usually working while I was away, this really helped me to feel a part of what was going on! Not only was the quote we received from Strong Builders VERY competitive, they stayed on budget! Any increases were due to choices we made along the way and were always talked about in advance. We knew just what to expect and there were no surprises at the end. The whole team was friendly and polite. My wife always felt safe at home while they were there, and I appreciated what a clean job site they kept. I was also impressed with some of their creative solutions to challenges in the project. We highly recommend requesting George for any tile project you might have. He worked with precision and always checked to make sure we were satisfied. We were annoyingly particular and he happily met our OCD-like expectations! Donado (sp?) was their jack-of-all-trades and around all the time. Everyone was really pleasant and many felt like friends by the end of things! The whole thing did take longer than we expected, however, all along the way we told the fellas that we didn't mind wait, as long as things were done well! But we feel that it's worth mentioning for full disclosure. We would absolutely recommend you give Strong Builders a call for your next project!

Of the four estimates I obtained for door replacement, Jim's was the best. And Jim showed up on time for the appointment, unlike two of the others who rescheduled on me at the last minute. Twice. I got no time for such nonsense. Jim brought me into the 21st century by replacing the old wood doors with fiberglass doors that need no painting. He also replaced part of the door frame as well as the threshold. He showed up exactly on time to do the job, which took an entire day. When I saw the crapload of equipment he set up on my patio, I was impressed. And now I know the difference between a finish carpenter and a handyman. For "expert door hanging & finish carpentry" I cannot recommend Jim Stephens more highly. The work he did for me is flawless, and he did it at a very fair price. Next we're gonna deal with the rotten wood railings on my deck. Rotten, because somebody in the past used the wrong paint. That's the bad news. The good news: now I have a specialist whom I can trust to do the job right, the first time.

Empty promises to be at the job site, but then didn't show & didn't call. Just like the bad contractor horror stories we've all heard, he started a smaller size project in my home in late May, and by September the job was still not completed. Contrary to common sense, I felt comfortable paying him in advance (based on the referral from a mutual friend), but my checks were cashed and the job left unfinished. I had to hire another contractor who completed what Chris hadn't finished and the job (along with a couple of additional items) were done in a professional manner within one week. Chris has not responded to orders to appear in court so that I can attempt to get my money back, that was basically stolen from me (oh - I also had jewelry and an electronic device "go missing" while he and his workers were alone in my home - no compensation for that either). I don't know how he has managed to stay in business as long as he has, and am pretty sure that the two 2015 positive YELP reviews were submitted by himself or family members. Called the number from yelp (909) 281-5005 and was told that a technician would be contacting me back with additional information and an eta. I asked that he contact my neighbor (as it is her house) and proceeded to provide her phone number, name and location address. 10 minutes later (958am), I get a call (he was supposed to call my neighbor) from the "technician" (562) 254-5221 saying that he would be here in 20 minutes. He then asks "Is she Asian? Is she waiting outside? How will i know which house?". He refuses to give an ballpark estimate via phone so I confirm her address and inform him that she is his point of contact and she is waiting for him. 2 minutes later (10am), I call the dispatch number to again confirm that we'd be getting an estimate and to confirm that a check would be an acceptable form of payment. I was assured that it would be fine so we waited for the technician. The technician arrives in a light blue/grey Prius, wearing a white t-shirt and black joggers without any identification) at 1045am and proceeds to the back of the home with my neighbor where he does not give her an estimate and opens her door. He then tries to invoice her for $279 without the estimate being given first. My neighbor comes over to get me and says that the technician will not accept check (after it had been verified over the phone and via texts sent at 1007am). I go to the back of the house and ask why work was done without approval and why it was so expensive. We never agreed to the service that was performed at the price and he was adamant about being paid. I immediately called the service center at 1049am and was told a manager would be calling me back. None called. Instead, the technician argued with us in the street and called his supervisor who tried to lower the price to $180. We refused and added that we'd be calling the authorities for assistance. Suddenly, they agree to $100. Since our neighbor just wants the door open and for the person to leave, she offers to pay but they insist on cash only. My neighbor now had to leave to get the cash to pay. As she leaves to get the cash (while we are waiting at her home for her), the technician proceeds to follow her to the bank (this is extremely dangerous for so many reasons). The neighbor realizes that he's followed her to the bank so she asks him to go inside with her for her safety. At first, he refused but decided to go in because she would not pay him till she felt safe. --- All in all, this was a complete shakedown and scam. How does service to unlock one bedroom door go from $279 to $100 in cash? How does the approval for payment via check suddenly change to cash only? And why are you following an elderly neighbor to the bank??? AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
