We found ourselves in a really bad situation with our roof, which was incredibly stressful considering our house is only four years old. We had a new roof installed by a different company and had leaks within the first year. Called Bill with Elgin Roofing Co. to come out and take a look at making repairs. (The original roofing company didn't answer our calls/texts because it was a Saturday.) But Bill answered. Came out within 2 hrs of our call and repaired our roof that same day. (More rain was expected on Sunday and he didn't want us to have more damage.) He then helped advocate for us with the original roofing company by providing us with pictures from the roof of the sub-par work and even of other areas that needed to be corrected, as well.) I noticed a gap between the frieze board and the soffit under the overhang of my roof and called Austin Roofing Company at 7pm on a weeknight. Wow! Really appreciate these guys. Their crew did a great job fixing my roof after the last windstorm, so when another tree fell on the house during this last storm I called them again. I made the grave mistake in trusting Sprauer Roofing to work on my house. That trust was betrayed with shoddy work, unsuitable materials, irreparable damage to my new gutter guards, and poor customer service. I was also charged for materials that were never provided, and for work that was never done. After contacting Sprauer Roofing, they sent out one of their crew leaders, Jack on 7/2/24. He and his crew were at my house all day and left after dark, when I handed him the check. The next day, I noticed my shingles around the gutters were bent up, some were broken, nails were sticking up, and my gutter guards were mangled. I contacted Jack and sent a few photos, and he said he would come out in the next couple of days to fix it. He never did. So, I left a message at the main office to follow up and let them know there were some issues. Bill Sprauer called me back (the only time he ever called me), and asked me to send him photos. After I did, he agreed that the job was not satisfactory, and said he'd take care of it right away. Later that evening, he sent Jack back out, who also acknowledged that there were some mistakes made. He ended up putting more glue under the shingles, and said they'd settle in a few days, and to reach out again if I had any other problems. I took Jack's word, and he left. But when I got on the roof later to get a closer look, it was still messed up, more than I initially thought, so I texted Bill the following day and he had the audacity to tell me that I should have done a better job of inspecting it while Jack was there! Then he told me I had the wrong gutter guards for my roof, and they weren't the ones who messed them up. I know that's not true, because they were less than a year old and were in perfect shape before the roofing job, and I have pictures to prove it. I asked Mr. Sprauer if he could come by personally to inspect it, but he said he was going out of town, it was too short of notice, and basically blamed me. He said this project was "Jack's baby," and "that's how he learns," and "we all had to start somewhere," and "thanks for pointing this out, this will help us going forward." Upon my insistence, he finally agreed to send out his head installer to look at it, but he never gave me a time or date. A few days later, on a Sunday morning, with no notice, I heard people up on my roof, and I assumed this was his other crew finally fixing it. They left without calling me or even knocking on the door to give me a chance to inspect it. I went out and looked at it, and nothing was fixed. Later that afternoon, we had a rainstorm, and my new metal roof over my screen porch was leaking profusely. I texted Bill the day after and asked him to give me a status update. I also mentioned the leak and sent pictures and video of it. I never heard back, so I emailed him the next day and asked him to please call me so we can get this resolved. He never did. Two weeks went by and still no reply. During that time, I contacted two other roofing companies to inspect it, and both companies were APPALLED by the shoddy workmanship and subpar materials. Besides the mangled gutter guards and broken shingles, they noticed exposed roofing nails, the drip edge around my gutters had not been replaced, my chimney cap and vents weren't replaced (all of which Sprauer charged me for) and the wrong material was used for my metal roof and not done properly, nor the area around my chimney. I finally called Bill's cell phone on 8/18/24 (already a month and a half after the initial job) and left another message, updating him on all of this, and kindly asked him to please call me. He never did. So, I reached out to the BBB, and they finally got him to at least respond to my complaint, but they did not have the authority to make him give me the partial refund I was asking for. He told them he had been out of town. So, he had no access to his phone or e-mail for several weeks? He also claimed they didn't do metal roofs, contrary to what it said on yelp and his website. If they didn't do metal roofs or couldn't warranty them, why did they put a cheap one on over my screen porch? Why didn't they just tell me up front? The day that he had finally responded to the BBB, he sent me a text late that night saying Jack no longer worked there, and that he was going to send another guy out the next day to address my issues. He never did. And for the record, I have before-and-after photos from my insurance company, photos and notes from both of the other roofing companies, as well as my own pics to back this up. I also have all the texts, e-mails, and phone records, so any response here by Sprauer Roofing that denies a single thing I've said is patently false. As of this writing, their website is no longer active. I highly recommend that you find another roofing company. This dreadful experience cost me money, months of stress, anguish, and turmoil in trying to get this resolved. read more

Troy and his crew were fantastic! Troy walked my wife & I through the whole process since this is our first house & first time getting a new roof. He did his own evaluation of my roof but he also showed up a couple of days later when my insurance adjuster came to the house just to make sure that my insurance was giving a fair evaluation. After the inspections & we signed the contract, Troy gave me an appointment the same week! He was onsite almost the whole day and if there were any issues he fixed them quickly and really went above & beyond. An example of his excellent customer service is when he went in the roof to where my dryer vent is located & he was nice enough to go up there with the dryer cleaning kit I had and cleaned out a ton of lint from the vent & pipe. About 7 months ago Sprauer Roofing did my whole roof, which looked great. With these recent rains I heard water coming into my attic and thought I had another roof issue. My roof like many others started to experience issues after the February winter storm. We have a gas fireplace and we hear water drippings after a heavy rain a week after the winter storm. I called around and most of the companies were too busy to even come take a look. Some time passed and this past week we experienced another heavy rain. Now the drips are becoming a stream and also noticing water coming out of the soffit. So I tried again to find someone to come out. I was able to arrange 4 companies to come out for an inspection and give an estimate. Bill's name is on his company, and he was the one I spoke to when I call. We were able to quickly arrange a time for him to come. And he came with his crew to inspect the roof. I have a roof with concrete tiles, so identify issue isn't easy. Most of the companies gave us a quote to remove the tiles and then variable pricing starts, some amount to replace underlayment, some amount to remove more tiles... Bill's first and final price came right in the middle, wasn't most expensive nor was the cheapest. But his price was an all inclusive price making the promise of fixing our roof leak problem and backed by 2 years workmanship warranty on all repair. More importantly, Bill is upfront about what his best guess on the problem may be and what it would take to fix it. His attitude definitely gave me confidence in him that he will take care of my problem. Bill came out on a Friday and the repair was scheduled on following Monday. He did not ask for money up front, nor ask for the money after the repair. It was me that reach out wanted to make him whole for what he have done for us.
